BFF will play a fundraiser for WXPN on March 21 at the TLA on South Street.
Local boy Ben Arnold will open.

WXPN is a public radio station that has been a huge supporter of BFF in the
 Philadelphia area.

I think the only way to get tickets is to join WXPN. A $60 membership gets
you two tickets to the show.

first off, sorry this is so long.
** bill elftman asked how long the band had been together--not even two
years! I first saw them in september of 94, they said it was their second
Raleigh show, and they'd only been together roughly 6 months!!
** brad lantz has a new zine with an interview--can you transcribe it into
 this list, please?
** jared pinkos wants to know more about all of us--well my name is
alessa, i'm a chemistry major at NC State. i live in raleigh, and as i
said i first saw them 9/94. there were maybe 50 people there-no one near
the stage, so a friend and i sat down on the floor and watched what was to
become one of our favorite bands, local or otherwise. that was the night i
met Ben and the beginning of a beautiful friendship with the band. see, i
work for the campus radio station, WKNC (88.1), and i was the first to
really push the band there. we had their 7", but it never really got
played. no one knew who they were. after that night, i kept going to every
show i could, traveling to chapel hill more times than i can remember,
greensboro once and winston salem twice. as soon as the 6song ep came out,
bff got me a DAT copy for the station and i played it all the time during
my "pure rock" shift (with other bands like tool, helmet, marilyn manson)
it was cool, and a lot of my listeners really dug it, too. when the album
came out it went directly into the nitewave rotation (alternative show)
and stayed there for a few months. it got enough airplay to put it around
#25 on the top 200 of '95. i've done three interviews with the band (i did
their very first radio interview ever :) so they say, but they were pretty
nervous, so i guess it's true). and no matter how many times i see them,
there's never a dull moment at a live show. the only thing i hate now is
not being able to see ben's hands and having enough room to dance. at
their last Raleigh show, there were nearly 600 people in a 400 capacity
room--it sucked (the crowd, not the music). don't get me wrong, i couldn't
be happier with their success, and i hope sony gives them the push they
deserve, but i want it to be like the old days, when no one was yelling
the words in my ear--i'd rather hear ben sing them himself!!

Hi everyone. Here are the lyrics to the new BF5 song "Song For The Dumped"
(or, "The Breakup Song". I've "cleaned up" some of the lyrics by using %$&!
instead of the actual words. Enjoy! -chris

"Song For The Dumped" -Ben Folds Five

 So you wanted
 To take a break
 Slow it down some,
 And have some space
 Well, F%#$ you too!

 Give me my money back
Give me my money back, you b^%tch!
I want my money back, you f%^&ing whore!

 Wish I hadn't
 Bought you dinner
 Right before you
Dumped me -- on your front porch

 Give me my money back!
Give me my money back, you b^%tch!
I want my money back, you f%^&ing whore!
And don't forget my black T-shirt!

 So you wanted
 To take a break
 Slow it down some
 And have some space
 Well, F&^% you too!

 Give me my money back
 I want my money back,
 you b%^@ch!

 I want my money back (x 3)
 I want my black t-shirt (x 2)

Sorry in advance if this review seems choppy, because I'm having to recall
my original post. It appears that my original missive has gotten lost in
cyberspace somewhere, and I didn't save a copy (oops). So here it goes.

Wow what can I say what a great show. The lads in the Ben Folds Five put
on a great show here last Friday. What amazes me the most about these guys
is the highest level of musicianship and showmanship displayed. As a
musician friend pointed out, its tough to be able to sing those harmonies
and play as the fine rhythm section of Darren and Robert do. I also enjoyed
the antics including Ben's salute to the devil and Darren slam dance into the
 piano.

Highlights of the show include Song for the Dumped (although I'm happily
married), Underground, Uncle Walter (who dosen't know an Uncle Walter) and
the perfect acoustic version :) of Video Killed the Radio Star. The song
selection was most of the album plus 6 new songs as indicated in Franks
 review of the show.

It also amazes me about how down to earth the boys in the band are. After
the show they came right out instead of hiding in the dressing room. They
hugged audience members, posed for pictures and signed autographs and
talked to anyone asking questions. I even spied Robert handing out fruit
 from the dressing room stash.

I'm convinced this band will conquer the world by word of mouth alone. I
told Ben this while we standing in line waiting for the show to start. And
told me that the reason they are popular in Japan, is because some employee
at a Tower over there was so taken with the CD, that he order 150 copies of
it. Arranged them into a Christmas Tree and some radio station picked up on
this and start playing the CD.

Not to much to say about the support act, 3 lb thrill. They were neither
punky or poppy enough for me. I heard that sound before and it just doesn't
excite me much. Also the lyrics to Diana make my skin crawl but that
 another story.

Thanks for taking the time to read my babbling.

The following is the info. which I found from Japanese music mag."crossbeat"

 Feb.28
 Club Quatro Osaka

 Feb.29
 Club Quatro Nagoya

 Kuri

[Kuri: Thanks for the reminder - I actually almost forgot to tape 120
tonight. Thanks for the Japan dates and to Chris for the story about how
they got so big in Japan.

Can anyone (Alessa maybe?) send me the discog info on the 6-song ep so
I can put it in the web pages? Also is the ep available anywhere?

I think if Underground catches on, especially now that MTV is playing
it, we'll find just about every AAA station in the country playing it,
making the radio station listings quite tedious. But anyway I'll keep
adding them as time and space permit. -fjm]
