Did anyone hear the BFF interview on NPR a couple of weeks ago? I was in
Virginia at the time, it was a good 10-15 minute interview on "Morning
Edition" the last weekend in January. I have the tape somewhere if someone
 wants it transcribed.

[It's transcribed and on the "reviews and interviews" page of the web
pages, and anyone else who wants a copy of the tape can get one from NPR.
Info is on the same page. -fjm]

 Hey,

You can update the tour dates by checking with the lastest posting from CEC
US on the Ben Folds Five folder in MMC. The band will also be playing two
dates in Hawaii: March 3 at Hard Rock in Honolulu and March 4 at Hard Rock
 in Maui!

The Hawaii dates will be followed by a west to east run across the country,
but that's not for public knowledge yet!

 Uncle Walter For President!

 Keep Listening!

 sooner! -fjm]

 Hi,
Could I join the mailing list of Ben Folds Five? I just saw them last
Saturday in cincinnati. Ben is funny guy. The show was really great!
I'm looking for the lylics of BF5 because I'm not a native English
speaker,it's pretty hard to know their lylics only by listning to a
tape. Is there any site that provides the lylics? I also am looking for
music pieces of BF5. It's great if I can play their songs and sing!
Is there any scores in distribution?

 best,
 Kazumune Masaki

I too watched the BFF underground video on 120 mins Sunday night (it was by
accident that i saw the video, i was watching, hoping that No Doubt would do
a live performance). I really didn't like the video either. Then the host
guy said that the BFF video was coming up, and I got excited, expecting
something similar maybe to Tori Amos's Crucify video. It reminded me a
little bit of a DEVO video though. Hey, does anyone have BFF's 7 inch
single? I would like to hear the B-Side.

By the way, here is part of a review for BFF that was printed in the Onion
(Madison's rag) describing Ben as "the indie-rock Billy Joel. Except he's a
better singer, a better piano player, and he's got a better sense of humor."

 Hi, Fivers,

I just got my hands on the soundtrack for Mr. Wrong, which features the BF5
song "Song for the Dumped". Although it is humorous and fun, I wouldn't say
it was worth the cost of the album to get it. There is a great slowed down
cover of the Tom Jones kitsch classic "It's Not Unusual" by The Wild
Colonials, and I haven't listened to the rest of the album, but the sort of
artists aren't usually my type (Amy Grant, Shawn Colvin, etc... a lot of
VH1 fare). But, if you've got money to burn, go for it: despite the way
Kojak put it on 120 Minutes last night, it IS available in stores now.

I guess I will jump into the fray and give my video review.
 But first this preface:
I see already a general feeling of disapproval, with comments like,
"sucked", "jerky", and "poor editing". It is important to remember that as
a general rule of thumb, most videos suck and are jerky. The only other
video I saw on 120 min. that was half way interesting was the one frrom
Ruby, and that was because of it's sound mixing and staging. I have always
felt that videos only detract from the music. (that is not to say it is not
a legitimate artform). If you want true BFF, go to a show or listen to the
 music on a CD player.

Now about the video, I for one liked it, and that is probably only because
I like the band. It was exciting to see the guys on my screen! I think I
can see (or imagine) a reason for the cowboy motif. It fits into the
underlying meaning of the song, which is about the need to feel a sense of
belonging or to find a place where you fit in, whether it be in a church or
in the underground punk/rave/whatever scene or if you are one of the
million urbanites packing the cowboy joints taking line-dancing lessons.
For that reason it doesn't bother me that they chose a western theme,
although I would have preferred an "underground" one. Besides it was
obvious that they had a good time doing it. I do have a question for
someone with better eyes than mine. In a few scenes there are words written
on some of the cowboy hats, but I couldn't make them out. It looked like
one said "Major" and the other "Fred?".
I know that Frank is happy because the "Clink" after "it's industrial" was
very distinct! I think I also heard an added sound, which was a "glug" when
a guy was downing a beer? Anyone else hear this? OK, enough of this, Hand
 me my nose ring,
 JOHN

Austin show and before they head out west? Thanks. M. Allen.

WREV (105.1) and KREV (105.3) in Minneapolis gives "Underground"
a lot of airplay (2-3 times per day, more just before they played
the Entry). This is one station, with two (weak) transmitters. They
don't have a web page, but they do have an E-mail address, which
 I will attempt to find.

ps. They put on one hell of a good show here last Wednesday.

Since our band is starting to realize moderate popularity, which song
should be next? When I talked to Darrin at the Chicago show, he said
that "Uncle Walter" would most likely be it. I agree with the choice.
 Anyone else?

I did have the chance to chat with Ben about the video shortly after it was
done. They had some great ideas, and the label, Caroline, unfortunately,
had others. Contrary to what someone posted a few digests back, they are
not happy with it.. in fact, would rather that it never be shown. I still
haven't seen it, but apparently the guy on the horse is the former
president of the label ..and for some odd reason, wanted to do this... and
did. I know Ben had another idea to shoot another video that would have
cost them about $100 (as opposed to the reported 20,000 they spent on the
one you saw), but I don't know what happened with that.

I'm sure once BF5 gets to Sony, things will be defferent... and the guys
will have more creative control over what goes out with their names.

The "Mr. Wrong" soundtrack is out today, complete with "Song for the
Dumped" in all it's glory. (The song is great, the mix could have been a
bit better, but they were up against the clock trying to get it done in
 time....)

 Subject: Ben's Early Bands?

Hey everybody. A pen-pal from Chapel Hill told me that Ben Folds used to
be in a band called "Majosha", which later evolved into another band called
"Pots and Pans". He says that Majosha released a record, but he's not sure
about Pots and Pans. Can anyone tell me (through the list so everyone can
appreciate the info...) more about these projects?

Oh, I hope I don't anger too many people here, but here goes: can we
please stop posting all the different radio stations that are playing Ben
Folds Five? I think it's great that they are getting more and more airplay,
and I think everyone should request them at their local radio stations.. but
isn't posting every single station that plays BF5 kind of tedious? If I'm
out of line here, just let me know. I just want to see this list stay as
great as it has been so far.

   Thanks.
 -Chris Roush (Seaforest@aol.com)

 ==============================================================================

[Chris: I had asked a couple weeks ago for people to post stations
that were playing BFF along with their urls for the "radio stations"
page, but it looks like it might evolve into a list of all the
alternative type stations in the country, so we might have to give it up
anyway. If it's OK with everyone, I'll only post radio station updates if
they contain some other BFF content.

I will be away for a few days, so the issue that comes out tomorrow
(Wednesday, #31) will be the last for about a week. I'm working on
getting the list automated so this won't happen in the future. -fjm]
