I'm not sure about a Majosha record, but a tape was released, probably
around '90. It had a yellow cover. Pots and Pans were another
Greensboro band that had Jeff Carroll singing and some other G'boro
musicicians but I can't remember if Ben was one of them. Ben played a
lot with Jeff Carroll (who released a less-than-mediocre NC comp in
1991 called "Self-Recognition"), Snuzz (who is in a band called Bus
Stop with Ben's brother Chuck), and some of the Bicycle Face
guys. Both Majosha and Pots and Pans played Winston-Salem style (Mitch
Easter-esque) college jangle-rock. Snuzz (real name Britt Uzzell),
Jeff, and Ben had very similar songwriting styles and some of the BFF
songs sound very similar to Snuzz songs except with different
instruments. I remember in 1990 that Snuzz had a song called
"Julianne". He may have even released it on a tape, I don't remember.

Okay, I know that this is a bit tedious as well, but it contains some (new?)
information. I am originally from the Minneapolis area and spent my winter
break back home. Yes WREV and KREV play it lots and lots. So does KJJO
(the am college station) While I was home, I also got KJJO to play "Alice
Childress" a few times a day for a couple weeks. I guess that the overall
response to the song was pretty good. Oh, and by the way, "Underground" was
 Mpls's KREV/WREV number 13 (or 14) song on the top 105 of 1995 (Bjork's
"It's Oh So Quiet" was number one).

 Hi!
Any chance you'll be touring in the Portland (OR) area? Picked you up
on Weekend Edition Sunday with Liane Hansen.
 Thanks.

Song For The Dumped performed by Ben Folds Five for the
soundtrack to the motion picture MR. WRONG: Written by
Ben Folds and Darren Jesse, Produced by Ben Folds.

 Lyric corrections:

 Song For The Dumped
 ---------------------
 So you wanted
 To take a break
 Slow it down some
 And have some space
 Fuck you, too

 Gimme my money back
 Gimme my money back
 You bitch
 I want my mony back
 And don't forget
 And don't forget
To give me back my black T-shirt

 I wish I hadn't
 Bought you dinner
 Right before you
Dumped me on your front porch

 Gimme my money back
 Gimme my money back
 You bitch
 I want my money back
 And don't forget
 And don't forget
To give me back my black T-shirt

 So you wanted
 To take a break
 Slow it down some
 And have some space

 Gimme my money back
 Gimme my money back
 You bitch
 I want my money back
 I want my money back
 And don't forget

The song is great, but only worth bying if you can find it cheap. Others
on the soundtrack include Amy Grant, Faith Hill, and Jaon Osbourne.
Why they would want to attract this type of audience is beyond me, but
at least it's exposure of some sort. Also I would like to take a
moment to thank Frank, without this list I would not have seen the
Video or heard about the soundtrack appearance. -JRP

 Dear "Opus",
since you have grown up watching television I find your aesthetic
ability to be slightly judgemental and off especially when attempting to
judge underground. Having edited feature films, commercials (some i'm sure
you must have seen many times since your life is occupied by TV) and yes
music videos MANY (madder rose, buster pointdexter, junior mafia etc.) From
your perspective you see only the manipulated final product. In the case
of underground you see a hacked up and pasted together version created by
the inflated ego of the performer. While you remain only a consumer in
this game played by overrated artist who can do little more then play music
not write video scripts like this band "leader" attempted to do. The
director wanted a live video the band alone forced the western theme to be
produced. The sound effects are mixed to low and you seem to miss the
point. Good luck with your life and remember you are alone / you are alone/
keep your nose high /and keep missing the point/ life is great here /hope
 you die a painful death

Please put me on your mailing list. I've seen Ben Folds 5 twice in the last
couple of months here in Minneapolis and am still raving about them to
everyone who cares to listen. I want more of whatever it is you can give me
 about this trio.

 Who is Alice Childress?

 Thank you,

 Jen Harris

[The Alice Childress that I know of is the acclaimed playwright and
author of young-adult books including "A Hero Ain't Nothin' But A
Sandwich" and others, primarily dealing with the despair of inner-city
youth facing issues like crime and drug addiction. If you think real hard
you can make the connection between what Alice Childress has written and
the message in the song. Just my $.02. -fjm]

If we are submitting suggestions for next single, may I please vote
_against_ Uncle Walter? It is the only song on the album that I regularly
fast-forward through. Too silly. My vote goes to "Imitation of Myself,"
which stuck in my head so fast I had to learn to play it (on the guitar,
in a somewhat simpler arrangement) to get it out. I hope the band doesn't
mind being covered already (albeit on a dorm-room level).

For people who wanted to know more about BFF fans, I am a junior at
Harvard majoring in Music and English, wondering why I am trying to get a
degree when all I really want to do is write songs. I listen to basically
every kind of music although the two bands getting the most airplay in my
room lately are BFF and Soul Coughing, who I recommend with all my soul.
