Well, Glenn Boothe works/worked for Caroline and he was pretty embedded in
the NC "scene" back when he was a DJ at UNC-Chapel Hill's WXYC. Is that close
enough to be called a "link"?

I got a slogan for ya. How's about "Stop the pointless E-Mail topics!". Who
gives two slacks if Ben Folds tunes his own piano or not? As long as SOME
guy's tuning the thing I'm happy. Move out of your parent's basement and
unsubscribe me from this list! If the topics are gonna be stuff like "Does
Darren Jessee prefer brown or yellow mustard on the road?" and "How many
napkins could a Ben Folds fold if a Ben Folds could fold napkins?", then I
want out!...
...I really love the album by the way...and for those of you who want some
BFF bonus points, check out his wicked drummage on the Fleming and John CD if
you haven't already...Good night everyone! (cue showbiz music and applause as
camera pulls back to reveal a giant, gloriously lit statue of Ronald McDonald

Actually, BF5 played at 100 Club about a week before the Splash Club for
"Caroline Records Night", which celebrated the opening of British
operations for Caroline Records.
As for Bf5 covering other people's songs, at 100 Club, they
closed with an unbelievable cover of "Video Killed The Radio Star" by the
Buggles. I wouldn't mind hearing that again.

Frank would be good to yell at shows, people would probably think you were
talking about a hot dog. Anything without song lyrics, or anything else
relating to the band. Something only we would know. Maybe it would catch on.

I recorded it. Of course, it's on a (PAL) VHS cassette. I might be able to
make copies of it someday. Because it's only one song (a couple of

Here is some info as a reply to some of the current BF5 inquiries -
1. Ben is endorsed by Baldwin and has a "Baldwin piano tuner" come to each
of the shows and tune the piano. He's also endorsed by Marshall and
Converse. What a combo!
2. I love the idea of finding out how everyone on the list found out about
the band. Great idea!
3. I wish Caroline had a connection to North Carolina! We also have
Capsize 7 from Chapel Hill/Carrboro on our label and one guy is from Eden
that works here, but that's about it.
4. The UK and US albums are the same.
5. The chant that would no doubt make Ben happiest would be "Satan" and
showing the 'devil horns' at the same time. Has anyone heard his rousing
rendition of "Satan Is My Master"? I've only seen it twice.
[Sounds good to me! Anything but "Frank." Only thing is, some of us
from Detroit still have a sour taste from anything to do with devils. Or
avalanches, for that matter.
Also, if anyone wants to relate how they first heard of the band,
send it to me in a separate message and I will collect all the responses
and post them at some future date. -fjm]

When Ben did an interview for the local alternative radio station here in
Atlanta (99X) he said that the band just hired a local piano tuner for all
the gigs to tune the piano.
That's a cool idea about songs for BFF to cover...I like the "Let's Go Crazy"
idea. Not to sound unoriginal, what with both of them being piano guys, but
how about Elton John's "Crocodile Rock"? Just throwing in my two cents...

i'm really glad i decided to do some looking around and i found this
list. i've been a big fan since about a month ago when a friend of mine
went with me to a record store so i could exchange something and she
ordered me to get the BF5 cd, and i'm still thanking her for it.
unfortunately, i lent it to a friend about a week ago, and she still
hasn't given that back to me. (i guess that's a good sign for the band).
but i'm getting it back tomorrow. it's been a while since i've found a
band that makes me want to jump up and dance. in april i was at a
Barenaked Ladies show (if you haven't checked them out, do it now) and
before the show, they played half of the BF5 albumn over the speakers
(i guess the sound guys there must have excellent taste) and i was the only
one there who knew of it. that ended up to be a perfect beginning to a
latter perfect concert.
my life in a nutshell:
daniel meyerson, 17, will be at U of Chicago in the fall where i hope to
play some BF5 at their radio station. right now, my top 3 (looks like i
just missed the survey) are THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS, Barenaked Ladies, and
Tori Amos (in no particular order. my favorites seem to alternate weekly)
but the last time the CD was in my possesion BF5 was set to repeat on my
sterio for a long time. btw, i've already taken the classes to lose my
southern accent.
