Im 35 and just got recently turned onto BF5's music thru basically a
lot of Jellyfish fans. Their album is cool. Immediately when I heard
them , I thought of Todd Rundgren and Joe Jackson. BF5 has todd's pop
feel with a little Joe Jackson vocal thrown in when Joe was angry..like
on the first album. I can see comparisons to Billy Joel too. Some Beach
 Boy influence as well.
I'd like to see Ben cover..
 Hello..Its me-todd Rundgren
 Breaking us in two-Joe jackson
One more time/Sunday papers/Is she really going out with him-joe jackson
 Honesty/My Life/Captain Jack-Billy Joel
 I wanna stay home-jellyfish
Love will keep Us together-captn and tennile...laff...retro
 weirdness/camp fun
 let it be/lady madonna-beatles

any current song which you wouldnt think ben would do would be fun to
hear their spin on it...thats what makes live covers great.
 Bullet with Butterfly wings-Smashing Pumpkins
 Back for Good-take That
 Punk Rock Girl-Dead Milkmen
 Another night-Real Mc coy

Hey ben...do a cheesy cover of something totally out of your musical
 spectrum !

by the way ..my faves on your album are: Philosophy,Summer B,
Underground,Alice Childress and Sports and wine.

 JELLYFISH FANS-E-MAIL ME !!!!

Subject: A few BFF quickie questions...

First of all, thanks to those of you who answered the questions I posed in my
WPB review last week. I still can't stop talking about the concert! Anyhoo,
here are a few questions I have for all of you:

 * A while back, somebody mentioned that BFF did record their cover of "Video
Killed the Radio Star" for some compilation. Has that compilation been
released yet? If so, what's the title of the compilation? (BTW, I do agree
that their version is much better than the one by The Presidents of the USA)

 * There was another song which BFF did at the West Palm Beach concert last
week which I didn't recognize. It started out with Ben strumming the strings
in the piano. Anybody know which song this one was and whether or not it was
 a cover?

 * What is the projected release date of the songbook for the "Ben Folds Five"
 album?

 * Besides the German-produced live CD, are there any other live recordings
available out there, especially in the South Florida area?

 * What exactly was the rating that they received in Rolling Stone?

 * I know this is really taking advantage of the group...BUT I have not had
any luck in catching any Ben Folds Five videos or television appearances. I
was in college when the videos premiered (the dorms didn't get cable!) and I
was not yet familiar with them when they made their appearances on Conan and
ABC's In Concert. If anybody has copies of the videos or any other
television appearances and is willing to make some trade or make copies of
them if I provide a blank tape, please E-mail me!

Sorry about the randomness of the questions, but they've been burning in my
 head for a while!

I think there are quite a few JF fans out there - I am on the Posies list
and they get mentioned quite a bit. For a band that has only put out two
low selling cds (and plenty of b-sides and live cuts), they seem to have a
pretty big following. I have a decent collection of rare audio and video,
if anyone is interested - I would love to get more stuff, or some rare BFF.

Now for the BF5 content, does anybody know if they will be on the bill at
the Las Cruces, NM Lollapalooza stop? (I had to unsubscribe for a week or
so, so if this info. has been posted already, I apologize).

I keep hearing that BF5 playing the 1st or second half of
Lollapalooza...does anyone know exactly what dates? Specifically, how
can I find out if they will be at the New Orleans Lollapalooza on July
23? If anyone can help, I would appreciate it!

Hi, I forgot to post this a second ago...I vote for wearing a symbol
instead of screaming a chant. The macaroni necklace is a fabulous idea,
so is the t-shirt idea. Simple and unique! :)

I wrote a post where I said that I thought of the ultimate BF5 cover but
(somehow) forgot it. I just remembered.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "Don't Do Me Like That"

It's got piano in it. It's got the potential for harmony. What more
 could you ask for?

No no no no no no no. The best cover of "Hava Nagila" has got to be Dick
Dale and the Del-tones'. Yes, the same Dick Dale some of whose songs are
included on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack.

Hava Nagila is a yiddish folk song where you all join hands and dance in a
circle. fun stuff. They do it a lot at Jewish weddings and Bar Mitzvahs and
stuff like that! And if they were covering it, that should've sparked up
some interesting dance moves in the crowd! It sounds kind of Russian, in a
minor key, like something you would do that knee-kicking dance too. Okay,
 enough said.
