Found a pleasant surprise this weekend at the local record dispensery in the
form of the import "Summer B." single. It's got two cool non-LP cuts, "Tom &
Mary" and "Emaline" done up live, the latter of the two being slightly better
than the first. Well worth my $10. It also contains a "shit-less" version of
the title track. Perfect for the anal disc jockey.

I hate to bring these guys up, but I have a JELLYFISH video cassette titled
"Gone Jellyfishin'" It contains videos for "The King Is Half Undressed,"
"That Is Why," and "Baby's Comin' Back." Anyone on here who wants to take it
off my hands for a reasonable price can contact me. I'd also be up for trading
it in exchange for a live BFF show, or BFF demos. Please write:

 Thank ya! Neal A.

 Subject: Goldmine review of BF5

Wanted to let everyone know that there's a highly laudatory review of Ben
Folds Five in the July 5 issue of Goldmine magazine. There's nothing
revelatory about the review, mind you; it's just nice to see a reviewer heap
the sort of praise on them that we're used to seeing from each other. WXPN in
Philadelphia lately has been playing the "World Cafe" version of "Where's
Summer B.?" (recorded live in the station's studio). It's a really good,
"cleaned-up" rendition. I'm hoping that the station releases it on one of
their future "Best of the World Cafe" collections.

Subject: BF5 sound bite on MTV

I'm slithering out of my pit of lurk to report that I heard a three-second
sound bite from "Underground" on MTV this afternoon. It was in a report on
personal style or something silly like that. At the beginning of the
thirty-second segment, they played "who's got the looks, who's got the
brains, who's got everything?" Now, if only they'd play the video once in a
while...This is yet another installation in an MTV trend of playing bits of
wonderful songs whose videos they never play. Oh well, I guess you have to
 take what you can get...

i was on my way with my family to Kings Dominion this saturday for my
brother's birthday. we stopped at this Dunkin' Donuts about 85 miles away
from our destination and when i'm ordering a coffee i see some guy with a
BF5 t-shirt walk in. i was being kinda sheepish that day (usually i'd say
something) so i didn't really say anything, but if anyone on the list
happened to be in that Dunkin Donuts this Saturday at about noon with
their girlfriend, i'd like to say "hey, that's a cool shirt".

 thank you for my tirade.
may the force be with you

My company, WebChat Communications will be hosting a live talk show on
the Web with Ben Folds Five at 4:00 PM Pacific Time, tomorrow (July 2).

 The direct URL is
 http://wbs.net
 or
 http://wbs.net/wbs/events.html
 or
 http://wbs.net/wbs/lollapalooza/lolla.html

You can choose whichever one you like, probably the lolla one is the most
 direct.

The cool think about WebChat events is that there is no extra software
necessary to participate. Just enter the room by clicking on the link
and type your questions in the box at the bottom and click chat. During
a moderated event, all the questions go to a moderator first and he/she
chooses the ones that are best.

 Thanks.

 Andy

[Today I was in Repeat the Beat in Royal Oak, the Detroit area's
biggest independent record store, located on a prominent corner in the
hippest suburb (the people there make you think of "Underground). They
had a collage of different artists' posters in the display windows,
including one row (top to bottom) of Ben Folds Five 12" cards. I checked
the bins, and they had six copies of the CD (most I've ever seen in
stock anywhere), it's on sale for $11.99, and there was a card attached
to the bin divider, that stuck way up from the rest of the bins, with the
"Ben Folds Five" logo over the piano keys, the album cover, and a photo
of the band. Nicest retail visual I've seen around here ever. -fjm]
