To Tim who was wondering about the UK Underground single: Don't
worry about it, the tracks were Underground, Sports & Wine and
Boxing, all the same versions as on the album. BUT it's being re-
released in a couple of weeks, and apparently there are some live
 tracks with it.

To everyone: Don't know if you've heard of a guy called Jonny
Polonsky. British music paper NME described him as 'Ben Folds Five
meet Superchunk'. Very excited at this prospect, I found a copy of
his single 'Love, Lovely Love' (song title of the year?), and sure
enough it sounds like BF5 but on guitars. There's also a cover of
Nirvana's In Bloom on the CD, and it's gorgeous. If anyone's heard his
album ('Hello, My name is Jonny' - album title of the year?) let us
 know what it's like.

    Later,
           Andy.

The Philadelphia Inqurirer gave Ben and Neil plus second stage local boys

negativity to the review dealt with the Gin Blossoms.

As I said, he's had my cooking. (brownies and chocolate chip cookies) On
another note, I saw someone here who wanted to trade bootlegs. I have no
bootlegs, but I should have several GOOD pictures from Ziggy's. Would
anyone want to trade bootlegs for pictures? I will try to put any pix on
my website for Armchairites as soon as I can, but the only scanner I have
 access to is iffy.
 	Bootleggers-pics for tapes?

I've been to the #benfoldsfive IRC channel quite a few times and
there never seems to be anyone there, so if anyone thinks it a good idea
I'd like to propose a meeting time for Armchair readers. My initial idea
is for it to be at 20:00 EDT Saturdays on Undernet.
Another option is for us to meet at a telnet talker. A
particularly good one is blacktape.cs.uchicago.edu 3000 ... We could have
a semi-official meeting on Saturdays (same time) and since there is
almost always some one on there, there will usually be someone to talk to
while you wait for other Armchair readers... The reason I suggest that
particular talker is that it is frequented by members of the They Might
Be Giants list... If people think a talker is a good idea I can give
specific help for people who don't know how to do that sort of thing...

Here in Austin, home of the Univ. of TX at Austin where the mascot is the
Texas Longhorn, students make the longhorn sign the exact same way as the
devil sign. So when BF5 played here in March and Ben made the devil sign, I
thought he was parodying the "hook 'em horns" sign, as it's called!

Well, I just interviewed Robert Sledge on my radio show, but it was a
different Robert Sledge than the one in BF5, but the radio station is on San
Jacinto St., and so is Scholtz' Beer Garden, which is where BF5 played the
last time they played here, and the organization that my interviewee belongs
to had a meeting at Scholtz'.

I would like to apologize to everyone who was offended by my personal
attempt to gain international fame & endless riches by tenuously linking
myself to Ben Folds Five. Shame, Shame Shame! I am truly sorry. And to
think it started out so innocently. At first I just enjoyed the great
songwriting, great playing & great singin'. But then it became an
obsession. I became a pawn for the pathetic linkage front(the
non-militant faction). Staying up all night putting piano strings on my
guitar(hurt like hell to play but sounded really cool when struck by a
mallet). I even had a SONY engineer build a CD player that played
backwards so I could REALLY understand the meaning of the lyrics. Then
one day it hit me! JOIN THE BEN FOLD'S INTERNET DISCUSSION GROUP, LINK

Hi Frank, and folks, how it going?

I went to G-CON (convention for Godzilla) in Chicago and wore a BFF t-shirt
on Sunday, but nobody mentioned the shirt I was wearing. Everybody was only
talking about Godzilla suit to the real Japanese 2 Godzilla actors (they
 were special guest from Japan)

 I'd like them to cover...well, I think I can't decide only one song. I
believe everybody else must think so too. so, my feeling today, how about
"She's a rainbow" by the Rolling Stones? When I thought of other song, I'll
 post it.

 Thanks,
 Kuri

A mere coincidence..Ben Folds Five, Party of Five? Maybe it's something with
the five..I dunno. Anyhow, as I was watching the season opener of PO5
tonight, between my sniffling, it was an emotional episode, the sounds of
Ben Folds Five filled my living room. "Alice Childress" was played while
Bailey and Will talked about their friendship and how it wasn't going to
change when they were at this bonfire thing..pretty cool, eh?

 Hello!
Well, I guess I haven't found an MTV sighting, (well, hearing
actually,) but "Alice Childress" was on Party of Five about three
minutes ago. They have this bonfire thing on every season opener, and
it was playing in the background of something between the youngest
girl and her boyfriend. I was going to stick around until the show was
over to write, but I just had to write it. Hee. It was cute. :)

 Bye,

Well, my little sister came knocking on my door tonight saying, "Put the TV
to 'Party of Five!' Put it to 'Party of Five!'" and lo and behold, playing
in the faint background of a nighttime beach party was "Alice Childress!"
Granted, it's nothing like gettting exposure through a video or an
appearance on a late-night talk show and you could hardly hear the song, but
hey, it was nice hearing the song on the tube. Has any other Ben Folds Five
songs been used in this capacity? I only know of the couple of times that
they used "Underground" for some of their "news" reports.

Yea! Party of Five has musical taste! Tonight during a scene on the beach
featuring Claudia and her crush, Alice Childress was playing in the
background. In fact they played almost all of the song. : )

That says: Ben Folds Five on "Party Of Five"!! Yes! Woo-hoo! "Alice
Childress" was played on the show "Party of Five"'s season premere this
Wendesday night on Fox. I'd say about half of it was played towards the end
of the show...at a good time that actually tied in with the lines of the song.
This is a great show and even if you don't like the show, it's worth
it to watch just to hear the great music they play and the most perfect times.

[Party of Ben Folds Five: I was wondering if anyone would notice!
Guess we have more than a few Fivers on the list. If, for some reason,
you missed the show and plan to catch it in reruns, or you taped it and
haven't watched it yet, it's the beach bonfire party scene at about
:50 minutes in, where first Claudia and her new boyfriend Byron are
talking, and then a scene with Bailey and Will. There's about two minutes
of the song, up to the "No, it didn't work out..." part. -fjm]
