I don't want to make any enimies, well f*** it. Who do you people think
you are? I want bootlegs, I want bootlegs. I fully support everything Ben
and the boys do, bootlegs are anti-Ben. Anyone who makes a bootleg of Ben
is commiting the most horrific act of blasfamy. If you want more
recordings of Bens, then get some money going their way so they can afford
 to make some.

 Willie

[Not necessarily. The band have stated that they don't mind people
making audience recordings. Presumably it's okay to trade with other
folks as long as it's not for profit. Someone else made the point that if
you're going to make an audience recording, or be interested enough to
trade for one, you've likely already bought everything there is to buy, and
probably turned on a good many of your friends to the band also. -fjm]

I happened to catch BFF at Randall's Island in NYC during Lollapalooza. The
friends I went with weren't really fans so I ventured over to the second stage
by myself. I ended up talking to some dudes because I noticed the knew all
the words too. Needless to say, they rocked. Right before they finished
out the set with "Underground" Ben said that he needed a few people to come
on stage and groove with them. Myself, the guys I was hanging with, and a
few others all got to go on stage a dance around with our favorite band. I
got to shake hands with all 3 of them when the song was over. Needless to say
that, at worst, it was a religious experience.

 Subject: Bootleg Trading Post

 Hello,

It appears that there is quite a big interest in bootlegs
springing up recently. Now, I for one don't really want the Armchair
full of people saying "Has anyone got the Nashville gig?", so here's
my idea (Kind of mentioned in passing in my last message).
Further to my request for details of any bootlegs floating around
out there, I'm going to put up a list of available bootlegs (known to
me) on my web page. The basis of the idea is that people can let me
know what shows they have, and I can keep a list of these people. If
anyone wants a particular show, they can mail me, and I can put them
in touch with someone who has the show. This means

a)We don't have a mailing list full of questions as mentioned above

b)Interested parties are able to see what is available to them via
 the web page

c)Those who have bootlegs to trade need not have 20 people mailing
them after the same show. Those wanting bootlegs can be pointed
towards various people, preferably in the same area, to cut down on
 postage etc.

If you have bootleg tapes that you would be interested in offering to
the rest of the list, and others, please email me with details of
what you have, where you are etc. so that I can add you to the list.
It would also be nice if you could possibly tell me what other
musical tastes you have, so if someone does not have anything BFF
wise to offer you, they can at least trade something else.
If you are requiring bootlegs, please also let me know what you would
like, and where you are (if you want to contact someone in the same
country, at least). With any luck (if Geocities will let me on the
damn server!), I will have a prototype list up on my web page by the
end of this week. This can be found at
 http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/5430/bff.html

Any comments, criticisms or details can be sent to mfp540@bham.ac.uk

 Thanks

I forgot to mention this earlier, but this post reminded me. I heard from a
very reliable source at the recent Ziggy's show that Ben is in fact engaged,
and if i recall correctly, a December wedding is planned.

 Sorry ladies,

I believe Robert uses a Big Muff distortion pedal for that dirty sound.

The song is Twin Falls, and Ben does an incredible version.

So am I the only person out there who has daydreams of making a grand
entrance into the tenth H.S. Reunion with BFF accompanying? "I was never
cool in school, I'm sure you don't remember me, but now it's been ten
 years....."

I think this is one of the reasons I love Ben Fold Five so much, because I
so INSTANTLY connected with them. (Another fan as a result of CMJ)

Well, I've got almost 3 years befor the 10 year reunion... I'm sure I can
get this planned in that amount of time. :)

Just my thought for the day...

 Subject: Bass Distortion

Benny, the bass distortion comes from a Big Muff (symbol for pi)
distortion pedal that was extremely popular 20+ years ago. The old ones
probably sound a little more authentic but they have brand new re-issues
that you can purchase from your local guitar shop. I think Robert is
still running it through Orange Amplifiers. If you cannot find one
anywhere e-mail me at bigt11@ix.netcom.com and I will get you in touch
with Fat Sound, our local gee-tar shop. They usually have three or four
in stock. Warning: They are not for the faint of heart! Long live the 3
 of the 5!

 ==============================================================================

[One more word on the bootleg issue: Discussion of trading them, or
charging only direct costs such as tape and postage, on the Armchair is
OK, but please don't post any "for sale" type messages where you intend
to make a profit. Thanks. -fjm]
