Well, isn't the next lyric "...and I'm still wondering who to be." Isn't
this lyric and song as much a parody of the so-called 'underground/punk'
attitude which has become more popular, or at least more visible, lately, as
it is one of high school popularity?
Anyways, I guess 'Goddess of our Living Domain' is pretty close on the use
of the song. It is a pretty cool daydream as long as you make sure no one
hears the next line! :D

What I wanna know is, how do you make a good quality bootleg of a
show? Like everyone has these bootlegs of gigs, but never say exactly what
recording things they're using and stuff!!! Any ideas? The micro-recorders
seem a little lame, but who knows...

Hi Frank, this was very well said. I'm surprised that up to this point, no
groups seem to have taken advantage of the opportunity for an increase of
profits from this sort of thing. In fact, King Crimson tapes all of their
shows and make many of them available to the discerning fan. I really
believe that we will see a time when there will be direct interplay at this
level between fans on-line and the groups themselves.
[Not necessarily. The band have stated that they don't mind people
making audience recordings. Presumably it's okay to trade with other
folks as long as it's not for profit. Someone else made the point that if
you're going to make an audience recording, or be interested enough to
trade for one, you've likely already bought everything there is to buy, and
probably turned on a good many of your friends to the band also. -fjm]

Any poetry nuts out there???? Didn't think so.....anyway:
If you are familiar with Walt Whitman, the America poet, try
listening to Uncle Walt' again. (Think about his life and his poems.)
It's fairly interesting. I was sitting in a class of mine,
Interpretations of Poetry (ETS 151), and the kid next to me started
humming the tune. We both laughed for a sec but then looked at it in
terms of the lyrics. I'm not saying that Ben wrote the song about
Whitman, but I still find this amusing.

Subject: Bootlegs
I have no problem with the sale of CD Bootlegs for profit. I
actually own quite a few myself(by other bands). The good ones provide
fans with live tracks that they wouldn't normally hear. If a BF5 CD Boot
ever popped up, I would spend $30 on it in a heartbeat. I could really
care less if some guy is making a profit on it. If it really does hurt
the band, they should just release a live CD of thier own(like Pearl Jam
did a few years back) with all of the songs on it, then we would have no
reason to buy bootlegs.

Subject: Built To Spill/Doug Martsch
For anyone who knows little about Built To Spill, they have about 3
albums:
*Ultimate Alternative Wavers
*There's Nothing Wrong With Love
*The Normal Years
*Caustic Resin (EP)
and their nucleus (Doug Martsch) was in the Treepeople and now records
with Calvin Johnston (Beat Happening, Dub Narcotic) as a member of the
Halo Benders. That band is great too. In a recent interview with
Calvin Johnston, he told me that Doug was recently signed to Warner
Brothers and has almost completed an album of "epic-type" rock songs,
which will be issued early next year. I think it is a solo project.
Keep your eyes and ears peeled, because we'll need somthing to hold us
over until the next BF5 album comes out.
On that note, check out the Brendan Benson album, One Mississippi.
YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED. Any fans of rocking Beatlesesque pop
will dig the shit out of this. More like McCartney or something than
Lennon, but very good, great guitars, even a bit of (gasp!) piano. Me
likey very much. If you want to see my review of it here goes...

contains some live songs on it. The two songs are Tom & Mary, and
Emaline. I got the cd single through CD Now Homepage which is located
at www.cdnow.com. I keep reading that people are looking for live songs
by Ben so here is the best way to get one. They also have t-shirts from
the band also.

I've only been following the Armachair for a few issues now, but I must
say it's damned exciting to see so many others as buzzed about BFF as I
am. I discovered them (as it seems so many others did) through the ol'
CMJ, and had to special order the CD (I was living in Muncie, Indiana at
the time), but when it arrived, I knew I'd found something good. Does
anyone else feel that Ben's lyrics evoke a kind of Everytown ambiance?
I mean, "Alice Childress" tore me up when I first heard it, because it
hit so close to home. The same with "Where's Summer B." and just about
everything else on the disc. Maybe I'm sounding too much like a rock
critic, and a bad one at that, but I'd be curious to know what song or
songs on the album hit 'em lovely from the first spin. ("Song For The
Dumped" was certainly cathartic when again, I had a similar experience)
I haven't felt this good about the future of rock since I first heard
Barenaked Ladies or Love Jones.
