Hello, a Canadian here to reply to the interpretation of "Boxing"
as referring to Boxing Day. Boxing day is the day after Christmas, and as
far as I know, we don't give gifts on it. If we do, I've been getting
ripped off for the past 21 years because I've never received any. It's
another holiday meant for visiting friends, returning gifts you don't like
(putting them back in their "boxes?" I'm not sure where the name comes
from) and for numerous chain stores to hold Boxing Day Sales. Their prices
get so low, you would think they're insane! Maybe I'm numb from twenty-one
 years of advertising...

I'm just wondering how many of us hold dual memberships here and in
Bedside Manor (Barenaked Ladies mailing list). Seems like quite a few.
And, is it just a coincidence that Barenaked Ladies are neither
barenaked (at least not in public), nor are they ladies, while Ben Folds
Five has three members, not five?

Not so fast there J.W. Yes, I've seen a connection between the two lists (I
belong to both), but I must take exception to the Barenaked Ladies not being
naked! They do in fact, sometimes treat their audience to an encore, sans
clothes, even at times waggling their wiggly's for all to see! Such a
wretched bunch of nudists, they are!

Does anyone who has a BF5 page have pictures on their page. I would like
to view some pictures. If anyone is interested i have some Bf5 pictures
from the 1st and 2nd row at the SXSW show last March -- some really good
(I think) and if I can find help from someone here I can scan them onto
the computer and then someone could link them to their page.

 Just a suggestion.

In response to Gillet's inquiry about Flemming and John, I hear that the two
bands are pretty tight and that Ben Folds is a big fan of Flemming and
John (and he even played some drums on their album - as Frank mentioned).
Yes, they have a great single called 'Love songs'. I bought the album
about 3 months ago and I love it. John has constructed some wonderfully
fresh riffs and Flemming (female) has vocals from out of this world that
will stick in your head all day after listening. Concluding that if you
like Ben and Ben likes Flem, then you too should like Flem (the transitive
property of music appreciation doesn't always hold true, but I believe it does
here.) Go get your copy TODAY!

*As a side note, I live near Chicago and I have never heard BFF on the
 radio, so quit your whinin'!!

Also, thanks to all those who responded to my Jellyfish for BFF bootleg
trade post. Soon I will have a respectable collection of BFF boots and
will happily trade for somemore. Rock n' Roll.....BLEH!

Well, like evreyone on this mailing list, I am a BF5 addict, so when a good
friend tol me they were touring here early next year, they had to peel me off
 the floor....
Soo...I was just curious as to whether this piece of unfathomable news was
 truely fact, or merely fable....
If you can help..my psychiatrist would greatly appreciate it....

I don't remember where I read this, but I remember that Ben said that when he
was young his father and his father's friends would come over and watch
boxing. He talked about how it was almost poetic, and so he wrote that
wonderfull song about it. Frank, thanks for running this list which we all
 love.

Hello, all -- This is my first post. BFF rule, and I listen to them every
morning. My beau is a keyboard player (loads of vintage gear) and he was the
one who shoved the CD in my hands....

I'm an editor, and was talking to a new author of mine last week. She's from
Durham and went to UNC-CH, and I mentioned BFF. Turns out that one of her
friends used to date Robert. Don't know any more than that, though....

I am just interested to know if many list members are going to the gigs here
in London and Birmingham ... that way I will be able to judge the certainty of
a decent bootleg being made and me being able to get a copy of it!!!

Here's a cool story that is kinda related to BF5,

My grandfather's name is Walter and he's kind of like Uncle Walter in the
Ben Folds Five song "Uncle Walter" because sometimes he just goes on and on
about everything he's seen and done, but he doesn't have a magical
 armchair! :)

So he was telling a war story or something like that last Christmas and my
sister and I were sitting on the couch, and I was like [singing] "you're
Uncle Walter, going on and On, 'bout everything he's seen and done" and she
laughed and it was pretty funny.

Then she went upstairs to get the CD and we put it in but Grandpa Walter
was already done with his story.

 Cool huh?

Subject: Ben's answers and Major label debut

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but when is Ben going to
finish answering questions as promised in the first installment of them?
Also, I noticed on the liner that a good part of the songs were produced by
sony music, which might lead me to believe that BFF's major label debut is
going to be out on sony. And last yet not least, I know I've been asking
you this since about issue #15 Frank, but do you have any BFF tour dates for
 Cleveland in the coming future????

Sorry I haven't posted here in a while. Hope to hear soon!

 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
 -Paul

[The major label debut is on Sony 550/Epic...I have not heard back
from Chuck on the rest of the answers - I assume Ben got busy with the
tour and recording, so it might still be a while...tour dates are kept
updated on the web page. There are no bookings currently for the US. The
UK/Europe tour is posted, and they are starting to book dates in
Australia for January. There will probably be an announcement here when
dates are updated as well. -fjm]

 I'm sorry I'm sorry.

I saw a review of Uncle Walter the single today in this Australia
paper... Quite good... It basically says that Billy Joel and Elton John
made the piano unpopular and Ben is doing something to change that. I could
type it out, but some people get a bit irate!!!
Anyway, it must mean it's a local Australian release now, I think. I'm
 going to have to investigate!!!
