all you robert sledge fans should check out chapel hill's GLADHANDS.
Their cd comes out in january and robert plays with them on six songs. the
old bass player, who happened to be mr. joe caparo, left. jeff carlson,
 the gladhand's guitarist and
who i work with in a restuarant across the street, plays bass on the rest.

Hey, guys! I've never really heard anyone on here mention the Uncle Walter CD
single lately. . .but I just bought it yesterday. There was all this
speculation around the list a couple of months ago about whether it was
really coming out or not and--it's officially out! I got it in a store in
Woodbridge, NJ--it was tons and tons of copies and the store also has both
Underground CD singles and the Where's Summer B? CD single. Great store. The
Uncle Walter is good, but it has the same tracks as WSB--Emaline and Tom and
 Mary. Cute cover, though.
Second of all, I saw a Barenaked Ladies video last Sunday night--first time I
ever heard them. They didn't remind me of BFF, but they did remind me of
Crash Test Dummies. I guess it's the whole Canada thing.
Lastly (sorry this is so long!), I finally got my lyrics and BFF sticker from
BFF last week. I also got a short note from them. Cute stuff, I'm glad that
they FINALLY sent it to me. Well, have fun listening to BFF guys. . .Later,
 Jess

 Hello everyone,

I finally bought the soundtrack of the Truth about Cats and Dogs
without seeing the movie, and it is very good.

Everybody knows that there is a song of BFF on it. It is Bad Idea
(some called it Retarded)... Very good!!! Better than Song for the
 Dumped.

I also knew that BFF will have there next CD up in stores on
March 17th. Is that right??? What song will be on the CD? Somebody
 help...

I am someone who went to see a Ben Folds 5 show and came out a believer. It
was one of the best shows I've seen in a long, long time. I can't wait to
see of hear of them again. I was curious if by way of the " Magical
Armchair" I might find some fans who were able to video record any footage of
BF5 in concert. I am very interested in getting in touch with these people.
I collect concert footage of bands I like for my own collection. If you
can shed some light in this area, contact me.
                           Thanks, John M. Lee McBragg@AOL.COM

I just returned from the BF5 concert here in Amsterdam. It was great! I
think the setlist was as I've seen here before, so nothing really out of
the ordinary. They did play "Video killed the radio star" and later also a
 cover of "Crosstown Traffic".

As this concert was added to a bill with Screaming Trees (supported by
Eels) many in the audience had never heard of them. But after the concert
MANY were convinced that this was the best of that night.

In a couple of hours they will hit the stage in Paradiso again to record a
session for the "Leidsekade Live" radio-show to do about 3 or 4 songs. I
will tape that of course. Trades possible. :)

did anybody ever see bf5 twice in less then 17 hours? i did!

it all started saturday night 23:30 when i bought my ticket at the door of
the paradiso in amsterdam. the screaming trees were still playing and i
saw their last song but that wasn't what i was there for, was it? in the
smaller, upstairs room of the paradiso at about 00:15 the real fun
started. and they were great. they started with Jackson Cannery and four
other album tracks. then two songs not from the album ('one angry dwarf
and ...' & 'steven's last night in town') but i already knew them from the
last time i saw them. the rest of the 90 minutes were great too. for those
of you who are keeping scores i counted 4 covers: 'video killed the
radiostar', 'crosstown traffic', some song by lisa germano about f***ing
from behind so 'we could f*** and watch tv' which sounded really funny and
a fourth one which i forgot. they also did an improvised version of snoop
doggy dogg's bow wow wow while the drummer was setting up his microphone
during the encore, called 'the drummer setting up his microphone'. they
had lovely t-shirts by the way but i was out of money, sadly. i got home
about 3:30. the next day ,sunday, i had to get up rather early because i
had to go to the paradiso again for the recording of the radioshow
Leidsekade Live in which bf5 were to perform. they were the third band
and, in my humble opinion, the best. they did 'best imitation of myself'
as a souncheck. and on the air they played one angry dwarf, where's summer
b, uncle walter, underground and philosophy. the interview was extremely
funny because the dj didn't understand ben's jokes. For those of you who
are interested, i've taped the show. during their performance they also
did an improvised song (well, about 10 sec) which is probably called 'f***
you' and in the middle of underground (you know the bit in the beginning
were the all sing their two lines) ben played a rather unusual version of
'old macdonald had a farm' they also did a radiosession for another show
this weekend and that will probably be broadcasted somewhere in the next
future. i will try to tape that as well. needless to see i had a great
 time!

 Subject: Finally in Holland

Last night we were finally able to see BF5 in Holland. They played a late
night concert in Paradiso in Amsterdam. As they are (still) not very well
known around here, there were only about thirty (or so) people that knew
the songs, but they played so fantastic that I think they made themselves
some fans that night. I already loved their record, but now I've seen them
perform it live, I'm even a bigger fan. All three of them are really great
musicians. Espessially Robert Sledge is an incredible bass-player. You can
describe their music as piano-punk when you see them live. The only point
of criticism I had was that they were so nervous in the beginning of the
concert that they played all the songs to fast. But after four or five
songs everything was OK. I also liked the songs they played that I didn't
know from the album. They played two covers; "Video Killed the Radio Star"
and "Crosstown Traffic" and four songs I didn't know ("One Angry Dwarf and
200 Solemn Faces" and "Steven's Last Night in Town" and two others) and
their whole album (except "Boxing"). Five songs were played on national
radio today. The mix was not very good but I am happy to have some live
material of BF5 on cassette now. I'm very much looking foreward to their
 next album.

Last Saturday they played in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. After seeing
them at the Lowlands festival, I was curious if I could enjoy the same
magical experience from the first time I saw them. And I must say; I
 did. They were amazing!

Ben was rather kind to the piano and the band played some songs I hadn't
heard before, but I sure did like them. They played Alice childress, my
favourite, too. I'm really looking forward to their new album now. Thank
 you guys!!!!!

And to make things perfect; I'm a happy owner of a BF5 shirt!

 Yours,

 Peter

[Scott, my N.C. correspondent, reports that Bus Stop is no longer
together according to the Charlotte paper. It seemed like a few folks in
the Armchair had tried to check them out because of the family connection.
They're were big in Greensboro but never created much of a buzz anywhere
 else.... Chuck, izitso?
Also, another round of "my other favorite bands" posts is coming in,
and as with the last batch, they'll be collected and digestified
separately and sent out in a few days. If you want to participate, get
yours in now, before Friday, Nov. 22. -fjm]
