I think it's a melodica, a sort of wind-keyboard. You hold it to your mouth
like a trumpet, but instead of valves, there are piano keys, and there's a
mouthpiece you blow into. Kind of like an accordian.

At least that's what I think it is.

I really don't see why everyone insists Brick is such a one-theme song--
Have a little faith that the boys can write something on more than one
level!! I think that's really the beauty of "whatever"-- the lyrics aren't
just a story or a situation, but often a more deep-rooted past and
emotional trip... OK, I think "Brick" is about this guy who meets a girl
and thinks they're in love... la la la la... "I love you!" "I love you
too!" "I want to be with you forever!" "Me too" "Awww...." "Awwww...."
lovely and all, but one day it turns up the stick turns blue... ug... Guy
is distraught, but he'd pull through with it... Girl says, "Well, I guess
this means I'll get rid of Baby!" and Guy is kind of hurt... "Gee, if she
really wanted to be mine forever, why not keep our Baby... even if it'd be
hard, it'd be ours together, right?" But Guy still wants to love her and
tries to help her out with the abortion monetarily, all the time realizing
maybe she's in love with the idea of having someone forever, not really in
love with him. Ouchie, touché, right? She's having severe post-abortion
depression, and not sure what's up, goes to a therapist, who contacts Guy
and says, "hey, she's not going to get better unless she knows for sure
whether you are truly in love with her or just dicking around." So he's
still in this relationship and they both know they've been lying about
loving eachother so much, but don't know how to break it off. Long winded?
Yes. Make sense? I think so. Clear things up? probably not. Oh well.
I tried.

OK, everybody's thoughts on brick have been very interesting, but hasn't
anybody ever been in a relationship where the person you're with loves
someone else? The following is lengthy but very important for anybody that's
in a relationship or has been in which things apart. I am going through this
right now and it's killing me. Although you constantly try to end things,
you always come back. It really feels as if you're drowning. Just a few
lyrics worth mentioning:

"Now that I have found someone, I'm feeling more alone than I ever have
before"
-- Exactly the feeling you get when you finally find the person you know you
want to spend the rest of your life with and they don't want you anymore

"She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly, off the coast and heading nowhere"
-- Obviously holding onto that person you love, you hold on regardless of
the fact that they are pulling you so far down it feels like you can't breath
anymore. Also, holding on there's no place else to go but down, the
relationship is heading nowhere.

" I pace around the parking lot, then I walk down to buy her flowers, And
sell some gifts that I got"
-- The aimless feeling you get when you begin to realize, you are pulled in
two different directions, you try everything to make them realize that you
belong together but at the same time recognizing that it's ending and there's
nothing you can do

"As weeks went by it showed that she was not fine, they told me son it's time
to tell the truth"
-- As time passes, we start to see the differences in them more and more, we
talk about it to friends and they all tell you to admit it's over

"And she broke down, and I broke down, b/c I was tired of lying"
-- The confrontation and final admittal, neither party takes it well. The
other person still loves us but is not in love with us. Making the break is
never easy.

"Driving home to her apartment, for the moment we're alone. She's alone, I'm
alone, now I know it"
 -- The end.
