Woah sorry about excess non-BF5 content. Got a
little carried away
there. I make no apologies for my eclecticism, though. Anyway, did someone
say BF5
covered "Sweet Home Alabama", cuz if they did I would be hyped. That's a
song I could definitely see them playing

Hi all--
As I do my daily Web search for the Kate singles, I came across the following
while searching CD Universe.

If you like Ben Folds Five, you may like these bands--

Lilys
Morphine
Beck
Tim Buckley
Counting Crows
Sheryl Crow
Freedy Johnston
Pearl Jam/The Frogs
R.E.M.
Pete Seeger
U2
Underworld
Neil Young
David Bowie
Built To Spill
Bush

Abd you guys thought that our Top Ten lists were diverse.

If anyone can explain how all these bands relate to BFF-I'd LOVE to here it.

Subject: Unruly masses

Hi y'all,

Megs posted the following in Armchair #342:

>Japanese crowds are so much more polite and courteous than American ones.
>I noticed that the crowds did not talk or scream at
>all during the whole show. And when Ben announced the name of the next song
>and at the end of each song, there was a short period of clapping and
>cheering, then everybody shut up so he could play and be heard. It was such a
>relief.

I think you're right. But I think the hootin' and hollerin' is a lot more
apparent at general admission concerts in smaller venues. I loved BFF's
perfomance at Irving Plaza in NYC during this tour - they are such a great
live band - but there were a lot of people in the audience for whom I
couldn't fathom exactly WHY they were at the show. Shelling out $17 is a
bit steep to interrupt someone else's pleasure by getting rip-roaring drunk
and yelling, or just talking to loudly a friend as if you were in a coffee
bar. I mean, if they paid that much money, they must know who BFF is at
least, but why, then, aren't they paying attention to the band?

I went to see the Finn Brothers last year only to end up standing in front
of a group of guys and gals who liked to drop beer bottles and laugh at
personal jokes, all the while pushing closer then ebbing away for no
reason. Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing at BFF show or
otherwise? Any theories as to this behavior?

Thanks for listening. Do you want fries with that?
Cynthia

Argh...and here i am participating in a top ten album list for the
2095829035th time this year. How low i stoop... yet i can never seem to
limit it to just ten albums. Anyhow...without further ado..my favorite 10 as
of now.

Soul coughing...ruby vroom.
that dog....s/t.
Portishead...dummy.
seBADoh...bakesale.
Firewater...get off the cross, we need wood for the fire.
Radiohead...the bends.
Pavement...slanted and enchanted./wowee zowee.
Jeff buckley...grace.
Stereolab...emperor tomato ketchup
campfire girls...mood enhancer ep.

and of course, le ben folds five. I think it's pretty much obvious that
anyone who reads through all the mail that forms on this mailing list is sure
to have at least one of their favorite albums be one of ben folds five.

AND NOW...for a new addition to the question'/answer mania we've got on this
board, beckoning even more posts to this board, name yr favorite SONGS...ooh.
 ahh.

"best imitation of myself" ben folds five
"song about an angel" sunny day real estate
"crutches" bettie serveert
"seatbelt" supersport 2000
"oh!" the breeders.
"hallelujah" (leonard cohen) jeff buckley.
"city of motors" soul coughing.
"deeper than beauty" sloan.
"burning paper" folk implosion.
"love supreme" john coltrane.

Psst...major props to those of you who have discovered brendan benson...he
belongs somewhere on these lists of mine, i just don't know where yet.

Pssssst....too bad i was late on those cover song requests for ben folds
five... wouldn't you love to see them dig out "whip it" by devo?

phew. i am not a list person,
susie.

The one and only top ten album list

1.The Ben Folds mailing list is not worth reading - the album "Kill the sheep"
2.Fags from the BFF Mailing list- first album
3.all of you are idiots- all three albums
4.If you want to write top ten lists- the album "don't"
5.BFF rock- the album "the mailing list sucks"
6.Why do I complain?- the albums "cause i get ten mails in my mailbox
consisting of top ten lists","I don't care about your top ten lists", and
"No one else does either"
7.I hate fags who write their top ten- the albums "beat 'um, beat 'um, beat
'um", "baseball bats and heads flyin'", and "get a life, oh nevermind your
dead from my beatings"
8.the Ben Folds Digest: Ben Folds related stuff?- the album "where I don't
see any"
9.Jump on the band wagon- the albums "I'm gay and I write my top ten," "Oh
I only know the song BOWCCL"
10.Send your hate mail to me at rsnead@awod.com, you losers.

because of you all I no longer read the once lovely Mailing list. It gets
auto delete, and the only reason I keep getting it is because Ben, Darren,
and Robert are the best all around musicians in the industry today, and I
will stay loyal. top tens should be kept to yourself, I have my favs, but
I'm not going to list them cause that's stupid. Whoever started this
stupidity, email your address to me and I shall personally come to your
house and give you beatings. Thats right ten free beatings all for you,
and tell you my top ten as I beat and beat and beat...

The mailing list sucks

Subject: my favorite top ten, too!

Since I'm obviously a BFF fan I'll leave those two albums off my list to make
room for a couple more. I'll also leave off a current favorite by Fleming
and John, "Delusions Of Grandeur", since Ben played drums on a couple of
cuts!

In no particular order

1.) Level 42... just about everything they ever released (esp. the older
stuff)
2.) Joe Jackson, "Night and Day" (and everything else as well)
3.) The B-52's, self-titled debut (and "Cosmic Thing" for housework)
4.) The Beatles, "Sgt. Pepper" (must listen to in entirety once a year as a
ritual)
5.) The Police, "Every Breath You Take; The Singles"
6.) Wendy Carlos, "Switched-On Bach"
7.) Kiss, "Alive" (a guilty pleasure to be sure)
8.) Soundtrack Album, "That Thing You Do!" (I can't help it!)
9.) Animaniacs, any of the three CD's I know about (and have!)
10.) They Might Be Giants, "Apollo 18" (and everything else as well)

It's really kind of a drag to have to pick 10, because I have to leave off
hundreds of others like Shonen Knife, Alice Cooper, Presidents of the USA,
Riders In The Sky, Charlie Parker and Florence Foster Jenkins. I think it
would be easier to list bands that I'm NOT a fan of. Let's try that,
although I'll probably make people mad...

10.) NKOTB
9.) Spice Girls (a.k.a. NGOTB)
8.) Just about all gangsta rap
7.) Anyone who ever told Weird Al that he couldn't do a parody of their song
6.) Ted Nugent
5.) Most bands that wore a lot of spandex before the Age Of Cobain
4.) Bush ("GLYCERINE!!! AWWWWW, GLYCERINE!" What in the hell...?)
3.) Oasis ("Cause maybaaaaaah... you're gonna be the one that saves
maaaaaah...)
2.) Any band that is fighting the battle of who could care less (a lot of
'em!)
1.) Alanis (the artist that resulted in me turning off the radio more than I
ever have in my entire life. I just wanted her to GO AWAY AND LEAVE ME
ALONE!)

Granted, if Ben were to start covering any songs by any aforementioned
artists (like he's already done with "Champagne Supernova")... lemme see...
"The Right Stuff"... "Wannabe"... "Gangster's Paradise"... "Cat Scratch
Fever"... "Girls, Girls, Girls"... even "You Oughta Know"... you know, I
might appreciate 'em a bit more that way. :D

hey!! this is my first post, so i suppose i should start by saying hi to
everyone.
ok, now to my point...
i was at the first ave show in minneapolis (it was the best concert i
have ever been to, by the way) and it was mentioned (by ben and audience
members) that the edge does not play bf5. (is this true? i don't listen
often enough to make a call on that.) at any rate, ben said that he did
not want to be played on that station (the edge). (because of the whole
rev 105 thing -- : ( )
well, guess what? as i sit here studying for finals, (listening to love
lines, cuz i just can't sleep without my nightly love lines fix), brian
oak (previously of rev) came on with his "under the edge" show. guess
what i hear coming out of my radio, but "one angry dwarf..." !!!
what is that all about?!?

So I'm a little behind. Forgive me...

As snipped from an interview by Dan Goodspeed:
>Ben: "I like this band called Belle and Sebastian"

The man has taste! "Star of Track & Field" was one of the best songs of last
year. How many bands do you know that could fit in the lyrics "Now he's throwing
discus for Wigan and District" (or something along those lines at least...)

Paul "The Irish Guy" wrote:
[lyrics to Mitchell Lane]
>And Riley made that stupid face all day
     ^ ^ ^

Yup, definitely Irish >8)

And he corrected himself with:
>In the cold light of day I've seen a mistake
the line: "Sunshine is amiss", should be changes to "The sunshine isn't
missed"

Funny you should say that, because I thought it should be "Sunshine is amiss"
anyway......

Oh, and can everybody hurry up and post their top ten albums, because it is
beginning to get a touch tedious (despite the show of good musical taste all
round). Go on, get it out your system!

My top ten *fruits*, in no particular order........
(Well, I won't, but I'm sure you'll agree that pineapple would be #1)

3 days until I'm off the Armchair for the summer....sob!
