Subject: G'day
Well, not that much to say other than the fact that this is my first
post to the armchair. I hail from the land down under (Australia for the
uneducated among you) - Western Australia to be exact.
BFF has not had the exposure that they have had in the states but
hopefully this will change......They did finish 3rd in a "Hottest 100"
competition run by a national radio station which can't have done them any
harm.
Rumours abound about a possible Australia tour - are they true???
Needless to say i would love to see the guys live - i have read a lot
of good things about them.
I have read quite a lot about 'bootleg' tapes which seem to be very
popular..... How does one go about getting copies??? Anyone????
Fell free to contact me with any information that my enlighten one
such as myself.....i would appreciate it....
Better sign off and let the next person put in their two bobs worth..

Subject: Apologies and Conan
Hello All,
Apologies for my rather pointed retort I posted recently in response to
Mr. Snead's comments. I was disciplined accordingly and it won't happen
again.
On the BF5 side of things:
I saw them on Conan last night and while I was psyched to see them, I
was a bit disappointed in their lack of enthusiasm. Granted, I don't
blame them. Yeah its good exposure, but I can empathize with trying to
build up a lot of energy to do only one song for a faceless TV audience
and a studio audience whom half of which were there to see Fara Faucet
(sp?).
I guess I shouldn't have expected too much. I was hoping for something
other than Battle, but that wasn't unsurprising either. I was also
impressed that they let them get away with "..see if Paul can score some
weed...," but alas Ben had to tone down his "Franklin fuckin' Mint" to
"Franklin gosh darn mint".
Well, mabey we'll see a little more pep in their Jenny McCarthy
appearance.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion.
Later,
- -Andrew (afaix@harris.com)

Subject: BFF rips Mpls Radio Station cont.
I think Ed may be missing the great irony of a Disney-Owned "Edge" van
outside a show featuring an artist they do not play. Radio stations will
play what they think will make money, despite requests from a band to "not
play" their music. Disney, now under intense fire in Minneapolis from
Chancellor Communications and Howard Stern, does as little as possible to add
new music to their playlist that does not first have a proven track record
from other markets. BFF, Soul Coughing, Squirrel Nut Zippers and several
others owe thanks to the dearly departed REV 105 for being one of the first
to play their music. It is amazing for a band that receives zero airplay in
the Twin Cities to still sell out First Avenue and then to see the one
station that should add BFF use the concert as a marketing opportunity.
There is a reason music sales across the country are flat or sinking. The
conglomeration of radio is wiping out radio stations that take chances. It
was sad irony to see the EDGE van in Minneapolis at the show. It would be
great to believe the growing number of people who subscribe to this list
could wield power enough to make PD's add BFF but I would not hold breath. We
are at the beginning of a bad cycle - bad music karma - and it will be a
while before things change.
Sorry, just had to get that off my chest. The powers that be at the EDGE are
spending more time worrying about their ratings slide than paying attention
to BFF and fans who want more from a radio station than Bush.

Subject: Japanese crowds and the Edge in Minneapolis
First, in response to the observations on Japanese crowds:
Yes, they are generally better behave during shows than their American
counterparts, but after the show it's a whole new ballgame... Don't be
in the trampling path if there's someone coming out the back of a a live
venue of any sort.
As for the Edge playing BFF in Minneapolis:
It's funny that Ben said he hoped they didn't play them, because Alan
Wolmark asked me to "Call the Edge and tell 'em to play the f***in'
album" not so very long ago... as for why they got played, realistically
there's no way someone could say that at First Avenue (the venue in
Minneapolis) in front of a packed house and not expect it to get back to
the powers that be at the Edge. But Alan had a point, folks-- what about
a movement on the grass roots level to get BFF out there a little more?
There's strength (and influence) in numbers, and there are quite a lot of
us now.
If anyone thinks this is a good idea, let's discuss. If not, I'd really
rather not hear any bitching about "But I don't want the band to get any
bigger...."

Ugh.. no.. do NOT buy the Five for Fighting album. I got a demo tape of
them at the Philly concert of BFF and I thought they were pretty good so I
went out and bought their CD. Big mistake. Their only good songs were on
that tape (2) and the other songs have intelligable lyrics that make you
wonder why the heck BFF allowed them to hand out their tapes at the show.
For instance:
Day by Day I resort to you I do
and I wash up after you're through
If I can say .. that's okay
and:
I got a thing for sunken shipwrecks
With booty (yes booty!) of gold
I don't care if its wet
and finally:
I got a thing for fish with no eyes
Who swim deep in the sea
With nothing to see.
What the heck does that mean!?
