Ok. Well, if indeed the show aired last night (this morning) that sucks. I'm
gonna stay up tonight and watch it anyway. But if anybody did see it last
night, let everyone and me know so we don't waste our time. And if someone
taped it, let me know. Also, if it's on tonight, I'm gonna be tapin it.

I know someone here mentioned BNL and Moxy Fruvous playing BFF during
breaks and set changes during shows, and how BFF has kind of become the
"musicians' band" to listen to.
I'm going to see BNL at Ziggy's in Winston-Salem Saturday night.
I'll be wearing the blue long sleeve WE&EAmen t-shirt to see if it
ellicits(sp?) any response from the band.(I'll try to get close)
Any amrchairites who will be there, please say hello if you spot me.

Hi y'all!

Well, after recovering from that face full of abuse from some of you guys (I
was just stickin up for us Americans against the likes of that idiot BEEFTODD
- - thank God he has gone now), I've made a return.

Just how cool are Ben Folds Five? I'll tell you. They are just the best. I
spend every waking minute listening to Ben, Darren and the other guy, except
of course when I go to the toilet, or when I'm taking a shower, or when I'm
watching 911 or something else interesting on the TV, or of course when I'm
at school. Gee, walkmans aren't allowd at our school. Steven Jones tried to
hang hisself with the headphones a couple of months back, so it spoilt it for
everyone. So now I just have to stare at my posters stucj to my math book.
I must spend most o my school day jus day dreaming about being in the band.
I'm takin lessons so I can be Bens Stand-in when he goes on holiday. That
would be soooo cool. Way cooool. I've written to Ben several times with
this idea, but he hasn't yet replied. My piano lessons are progressing well
too. I can now play 'Three Blind Mice' and 'Chop Sticks' on the old ivories.
I'll soon be playing Alice Childress - I can do my interpretation of it, but
it dosne't sound much like Bens version. Anyway, heres my top ten:

1. Ben Folds Five - "Ben Folds Five"
1. Ben Folds Five - "Whatever And Ever Amen"
1. Ben Folds Five - "Underground (CD1 - UK Version)"
1. Ben Folds Five - "Uncle Walter"
1. Ben Folds Five - "Kate (CD2 - UK Version)"
1. Ben Folds Five - "Philosophy"
1. Ben Folds Five - "Underground"
1. Ben Folds Five - "Battle Of Who Could Care Less"
1. Ben Folds Five - "Wheres Summer B?"
1. Ben Folds Five - "Underground 7" Version"

Yeah I know, some are CD singles and records, but hey, sue me! And I know
they are all at number 1 - they are all joint first on my top ten list. I
could go on for another ten, but that would bore youse too much.

Just a quick question before I go, something I never quite understood about
the song "Kate". It's meant to be about his wife right? So why does he
sing:

"I've got to have a BK, K, K, Got to have a BK!"

Is this refering to some burger giant? Why can't it be...

"I've got to have a MacD, D, D, Got to have a MacD!"

I guess they both work well.

So burger giants, you know a man who can do your next TV ad eh?

"It's all relative to the size of your steeple,
You can't see the forest for the trees,
And you can't smell you own shit on your knees!"

Love you all,

Fellow BFF chap.

Armchair peoples,

This review was in People on May 5, 1997. It was written by Craig Tomashoff.

"Somewhere between Little Richard and Billy Joel, the piano went out of
fashion as a lead instrument in rock and roll, but this North Caroline group
is doing their best to bring it back. The first major label CD from the
guitar-less trio (not quintet, depsite the billing) features Ben Folds, on
piano, Darren Jessee on drums, and Robert Sledge on bass. It's an elegant
slice of pop rock.

The band sounds sort of like Squeeze meets Freddie Mercury--at a George
Gershwin tribure. Their melodies are beautiful no matter what the tempo
("Brick" and "Evaporated" are somber ballads that build to soaring finishes;
"Kate" is a short, sweet, pure-pop love song) or the title "One Angry Dwarf
and 200 Solemn Faces" a revenge-of-the-nerd anthem, bounces along loudly and
happily. The smart sound is a perfect match for the group's wry, homespun
lyrics ("Wish I hadn't bought you dinner right before you dumped me on your
front porch", from "Song For the Dumped") But mostly Whatever and Ever Amen is
a welcome reminder that piano means rock as well as Bach.

That's the whole thing, rather short but I just thought I'd pass it on.

Megs :~)

i am currently listning to the new KATE single, which SAYS on the front
"include's 'bad idea', and some other song" but in fact has Kate, Michiline
Drive (my new fave), and ben and the boys screwing around to Elvis' "all
shook up" (they don't know the words.)

all right, bastaches. i've had it up to HERE (point to forehead) with those
damn stupid "Top 10 Lists" If you look just above the body of the newsletter
(which arrives every 15.3 seconds now), you'll see that this is THE BEN FOLDS
FIVE MAILER. Not, "Hey, I've got a computer and no friends!!! I think that
i'll write 3 pages about Radish or whatever. Then, all my loser friends can
be followers and do the same, clogging up the letter with utter COW TRIPE!!!"

Take a breather folks. Remember when the Teenie Boppers weren't the majority
and we core fans could use words with more than 3 sylables? I read this to
hear about Ben, not Hanson. So, i propose a one month BAN on all lists and
bits of tid unrelated to BEN FOLDS FIVE. understood? I hope so, because next
time, i start with the kidney punches first.

feeling kinda perky, and I really wanted to get this off of my rather
maculine and let's face it muscular chest.
See, I was revising for my Gcse's in the park 'cos it was so sunny and
stuff, when I was listening to Ben Folds Five on my walkman. Yeah, so I
decided to go home and all of a sudden it was Alice Childress, man, it
freaked me out! Some dude didn't leave me cold in the sidewalk and take
everything I had, everything I had, but there were some ugly things that
I couldn;t change (tramp) and the summer was a bit after 6, and I was
walking down the hill and I did wish my friends and no they wouldn't dig
it no.
Anyway, that led me to think-wow. And think I did, with the result that
I decided that Kate was an album, or a soundtrack to life
Angry Dwarf-bullying in school
Fair i'm not too sure about but it really starts with
Brick-first relationship and break up
Song for the Dumped-obvious
Cold Selfless and Composed-yet another one
Kate-the girl of his dreams, obviously
and so it goes on, culminating in
Missing the War-war veteran
Evaporated-almost dead.
You must think I'm mad/crazy/have lost it (delete as applicable)
:)

Hey, and here's another post ro be ignored like it hasn;t been posted.
I got Kate the other day, well, both of them really ( how sad) but it
was kinda worth it just for the begining to for all the pretty people
and also All Shook up. Admitedly, collectively they weren't that amazing
but this was the first time I had heard Bad Idea so frgive me for being
behind. Anyway, I reckon they weren't bad at all and they didn't cost
nothing, well, not much! Cool, what a load of rubbish I can come up
with!
