TOP TEN LISTS:
The Top Ten lists of other favorite bands have been fun but are
beginning to annoy a lot of subscribers. Let's try to curtail the thread.
If anyone wants to volunteer to accept top-ten lists and make them
available some other way (such as on the web somewhere), please step
forward. Or we could all post them to alt.music.ben-folds-five! Also,
please don't post comments to the list saying how annoyed you are with
the top-ten lists, as that would be off-topic. Thanks.

Dear Hilary,
You were absolutely right about the harmonies. The Paradise is a
good room to hear a show in, especially good room for the band to hear
itself, and they were tight. I was sitting on the PA speakers behind Ben
(I was the one who requested Sports and Wine backstage prior to the show),
and I yelled "NOTHIN'" during JC just as loud. Tell John he was out of
step with the fun parade.
As for the jet lag thing, Steve Morse, a reasonably well respected
Boston rock critic said in the Globe two days later in his "rock notes"
column- "Ben Folds Five For Real"-'these guys turned out delicious
arrangements, tight harmonies, and a fabulous display of musicianship, all
while having a blast. All bands and pianists should hope to be so
jetlagged.'

1. Add me to the BFF Dream Team

Last night, I had a dream that I introduced my friends to Ben at Logan
International Airport in Boston. They had just played a gig there, and I
was talking to ben after the show. Then Ben and I went outside, where
I was apparently involved in a softball game. I think Ben actually got up
and played at some point in the infield, (one of those dream things you
just 'knew') but then he crashed against the backstop, looking tired.
I sat down next to him and asked him how he could stand their
touring schedule. He said it was breaking his back, and I offerred him a
chance to crash at my house for a night before continuing the tour if he
and the band wanted to. Then he said that he was actually considering
buying a house in Massachusetts on Roger Williams island. (There is no
such island, I think he meant Martha's Vineyard, although Roger Williams
is a college in Providence, where I recently saw the boys play)
Then I brought up that it would be a lot easier to find a house on
the Cape Cod peninsula (the arm of Mass), and that the north side of the
Cape is one of the few places on the east coast you can see the sun set
over the water. Surprisingly, Ben chimed in with an ample knowledge of
how the water is colder in Massachusetts Bay due to arctic current (the
outside gets the tail end of the gulf stream, and is ten degrees warmer)
I said something like, "Well, it's up to you- does Kate want to
move up here too?" And then I woke up, I think.

2. BFF in Many States
I recently had a friend point out that I have seen BFF in four different
clubs in four different states: NC(2x),VA,MA,and RI. Anybody else seen
them in multiple states? If there are any Fruheads on the list (they know
who they are and what that means), how many shows have you gotten stamped
on your card?

Subject: Another plug for independent stations

Good Morning All,

I just wanted to add my 2 cents to the hailing of the independent,
non-commercial radio stations the world over.

I myself was originally turned on to the BF5 by WBER (90.5) in
Rochester, NY. They're a LISTENER SUPPORTED
progressive/modern/alternative/whatever radio station and their
programming primarily revolves around listener feed-back.

Anyway, these guys were playing Underground and Uncle Walter since the
first album came out. They'll even play Philosophy or Dwarf if you call
and request it. Only recently did Rochester's cheese-ball, abrasive,
highly-commercial alternative station start playing Battle. (They're
called the NERVE - 95.1 95.5 here in Rochester. If you're ever in the
area avoid this frequency).

Well to plug WBER - they broadcast live over the net, so for those of
you with a computer (all of you), a modem (all of you) and a
SoundBlaster (a good chunk of you) can feel free to check them out.
Just go to their home-page (wber.monroe.edu) and they'll tell you what
to do. Enjoy.

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

Hi all

This is my first post.
Saw BFF on Jenny McCarthy last night(6/12). They go on at 21 minutes into
the show, so turn on MTV at 10:21 on Saturday night in order to miss the
horrble programming which leads into the band. They are actually allowed to
speak as well(I won't tell you what they said. It will spoil the surprise)>
The performance of "One Angry" was ten times better than "Battle" on
Conehair.

Cheers,

I'm currently working on the BFF site at www.underworld.net/bff, so feel
free to check it out, send feedback/whatever... Right now, I'm working
on getting a lot of BFF videos online. If anybody in the area receiving
the Channel 13 studio-broadcast thingy would be kind enough to tape it
and send it to me, I'd be happy to reimburse you for shipping/tape
costs. In addition to this, if anyone has tapes of any other BFF
television appearances, *please,* email me with what you have, and then
we can arrange something. I already have the latest Conan O'Brien and
Jenny McCarthy spots, so I don't need those. Any other appearances would
be appreciated. Oh yeah... these tapes are only good to me if they are
in NTSC... my equipment isn't PAL compatible. Strangely enough, I will
accept not only VHS, but also SVHS, 3/4", and Beta-Cam (*not* beta;)

OK. There are no pro-shot videos of any Ben Folds Five gigs. I have yet to
even see a crappy quality, home camcorder shot video of a BFF show. Also, to
the people that continually ask about BFF pro-shots and are planning on
selling the tapes, don't waste your time, there are none.

Watched the show last night. From what I have heard about Conan (I missed it
:( )
They were alot more enthusiatic. They sounded pretty gosh darn good . I had
never seen them perform before. So I was impressed with the stomping and
pounding on the piano Ben did. Plus we all got an invitation over to there
house to come and hear them Was that nice or what.

not that i really WANT to reply, but the nit-picking has kinda gone to an
extreme here. When i said "i read this to hear about BEN, not Hanson", i
meant BEN as a genralization, not the rule. It's not like i have some fuckin'
shrine built to him in my room. i just didn't think i needed to write all
that out. jeez. That was the best argument you could come up with to attack

I don't think it's illegal to sware on CDs here, although some radio show
may censor them.
I think this is just because there's no suitable words for the parts which have
only 2 or 3 syllables. Swear words that give snappy taste... can't think of any.
The person who translated it may have left the part untouched (or ignored),
as the original doesn't seem to be defeated. (sorry for funny english :>)

I wonder who on earth did this great job, make us japanese fans sing in unison

Yah know it,

Da Cheeky one in da house. Rude respect and a massive shout out, biggin' up
the man like Beef Todd. OK reet, Beef Todd told me 'bout Ben Folds Five
in'it. Swear a God, so just been cold coolin' out listen to Battle of Britain
or whatever? Ya know I cunt care less, cheeky. Wicked mon in'it, 'cept
Smoke and Cigarette as vibes not flowin on dem toons, and not bangin' to da
beat of de drum.

OK, bit 'bout ma toon I like- Song for the Dumped. How cheeky is that? Big
shout out to Ben and his folding geezers for writing toon about excrement
in'it, cos even though body don't need dem turds anymore, still cheeky idea
to write song bout it. All those waste products give Ben a BIG UP for
relating to their cause. Rude and ruffneck biznizz. Especially like "I want
my money back" line cos sometimes reet if you have to pay for use of public
toilets in city center and stuff and after sitting down on lavatory for bit
and can't perform in'it then big time waste of money. Cheeky. I'd want my
money back too off toilet attendent.
