Subject: Religious themes on WE+E Amen

Hi everybody, my name is Matt. Long time listener (well, not really, only
a month or so), but 1st time caller. Anyway, I'm mostly a lurker on this
here Armchair, but I feel the need to reply to the person who mentioned
the religious themes on the new album. Aside from the aforementioned
"Kate"'s Bhagavad Gita line, the presence of the Klezmatics (whose 1st
album was titled "Jews With Horns", need I say more) on "Steven's Last
Night in Town" would definitely indicate the influence of Jewish music on
the sound of the song. Plus, all of you who have the "Battle of Who Could
Care Less" CD single with the cover of "Hava Nagila" on which Ben says
that it was "a song he heard a lot growing up" (I'm paraphrasing here)
also indicates that he was raised Jewish. When I heard him do "Hava
Nagila", it kinda gave me a feeling of pride since I'm Jewish myself. Not
that it should really matter or anything, but I couldn't help it. Well,
I'm thinking of all the other songs on the album or B-sides and what have
you and I can't think of any other religious connotations, so if you have
any more, please post them.

While I'm at it, I should probably fill you all in on how I got into BFF.
I'd heard a lot about them from friends and from the Joe Jackson mailing
list (an artist who all of you should check out, IMHO), so one day when I
was in a record store not knowing what to buy (I was in the mood for
something new, though), I happened to see WE+E Amen and played it to
finally hear what the hype was about. After listening to parts of about 3
or 4 of the songs, I was floored, bought the album, and haven't gone back
since. That was late March and now I have both CDs and 6 CD singles (I
finally found pt. 1 of "Underground" today; now I just need part 2...) ,
have seen them at Irving Plaza on 4/29 (great show, BTW), am on this here
mailing list (well, duh!), and am going to Central Park to see them with
Morphine (another favorite of mine) next Wed. (6/25). And no, I'm not
gonna post a Top 10, but any of you are curious as to what else I like,
feel free to drop me a line. Sorry for the long post and for babbling, but
I don't do it too often, so....

				Matt

Hi y'all,

Leave it to the People person to know the answer to this one:

Newspaper accounts of the Farrah Fawcett/BFF incident after Conan O'Brien's
show are not accurate. The articles claimed that 2 girfriends of BFFers
were in the stalls ragging on Farrah when she came in. The truth of the
matter is, two women WERE ragging on Farrah when she came into the
bathroom, but according to the band, their significant others weren't
around that night.

Ooohh, Ben Folds Five, getting bigger every day...now involved in random
Hollywood gossip...ooooohhh, aaaahhhh.....

Take care,
Cynthia

Subject: A Clear answer 2 all your Bhagavad questions!!

The Bhagavad Gita, is an Indian relgious text:

IT IS NOT THE FOLLOWING, MY HOMIES!!!

>The Bahgvad Gita is the holy book of either the Hindus or the Muslims.
>It's like the Bible. It was written by Mohammed as it was dictated to him
>by God.
>Geoff

Yes it is Hindu, but Islam is a totally different religion from Hinduism. The
Bhagavad Gita is not like the bible. It is a collection of Hindu tales that
present morals. Yeah, the bible (in my belief) is a load of crap, but at
least Hindi don't take all the relgious crap literally like some Christians
do(I don't mean to offend anybody, this is just my belief). The book Geoff is
talking about is the Qur'an, which is indeed like the bible, except it is a
guidebook for the Islamic relgion. It contains Mohammed's revelations. I hope
I cleared this up for everybody. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about! I
received an A+ in Geo-History. Anyhow, I love the new album!!!! BenFoldsFive

	Adam Delisse-

I'm sure that in the time you wrote that pathetic rant to whomever was
asking about the Bhaugaud Gita (Nice spelling asshole) you could have
A)Answered my QUESTION about whether or not the magical armchair appears in
any songs besides Uncle Walter, and B)Answered what the Bhaugaud Gita is.
In FACT! By doing those two things, you could have saved everyone on the
armchair reading your pathetic BULLSHIT, and saved your puny brain the
trouble of thinking of all of those long words like 'and' and 'BILLION'. In
the future, keep your fucking bad attitude to yourself.

the bhagavad gita, once and for all, is an ancient indian text in which
krishna, an avatar of vishnu, takes earthly form to teach arjuna the
archer his duties as a warrior, and he ends up having to kill all of his
evil cousins to save his wife and brothers. no, dope, it was not written
by modammed as god dictated it to him, because a little book known as the
KORAN, or the Quran, if you please. the bhagavad gita pertains ONLY to
the hindu faith and was written to teach moral lessons on performing the
duties of your societal class without looking at the consequences.

i must make apologies for my recent posts as i have been annoyed lately
and decided to take it out on a couple of new fans. i appreciate teh
concern that someof you have shown for other people's feelings, and it
just goes to show that although i'm a very old fan (in the sense that i
have been a fan for a LONG time), i am no longer one of the ONLY fans, and
i am happy that ben's fan base has grown so much.

You know, I used to love the Armchair....but the hostility is too much...So
what if people want to know what Bhaggada Pita whatever means! that's what
this is here for....I know I know, you're supposed to read the achives, but
come on you psychos, don't you enjoy the little break between people's
SELF-GLORIFYING "top ten" lists and the incessesant personal conversations
that only two people understand...Just don't take every single opportunity to
chastise everyone for doing things wrong every now-and-again...damn! I'm
contributing to the hostility now, making me a hippocrite. Oh well....

Relax fans,

Subject: ICQ anyone?????

Hi everyone.
I just recently downloaded the chat program ICQ. It is really neat!!!
The only problem is that I have no one to chat with. The only way to
find people with common interests is by conducting a search and stuff
like that. (If you have ICQ you know what I am talking about.) Anyways,
I was just wondering what peoples' UINs are. If you have one, then
either email me personally or send it to the list. I'm just afraid
people on the list won't appreciate a thread of ICQ related posts, so
it'd probably be better to send it to me. If you don't have the chat
program but you want to download it or are interested in it...email me
too and I'll send it to you to download. Thanks!

Hi BFF list,

We've now recieved more than 30 e-mail messages from persons on the list
protesting against Ryan Downey's BFF review. Your viewpoints have been
heard, as well as your insults, threats and suggestions we cram our
review up our butts.
We appreciate all the mail we get, even from people who don't like us or
what we write about, but it's not necessary to send us more e-mail about
the review. Even we dullards understand that fans who are devoted enough
to join a mailing list for a band are usually pretty big fans of a band.
Downey's review may have been snide but was in the realm of fair
comment.. and I can tell you they reflected his viewpoint.
I've never even heard BFF -- I'm more of a hip-hop fiend myself -- but I
hope the group's music is a bit more well-mannered than some of the
people who spammed our mail server with protest notes.
