Well, if ya can't beat 'em....
1. Jackson Cannery
2. Fair
3. Brick [soooo tough!]
4. Song For the Dumped
5. Alice Childress
6. Underground [ugh! nearly impossible!]
7. Sports & Wine [frankly, easy: 'Smoke' makes my head ache]
8. Uncle Walter [duh.]
9. Best Imitation of Myself [despite the hooter!]
10. Battle of Who Could Care Less
11. The Last Polka [this song IS my life]
12. Boxing
eponymous: 8
WAEA: 4
While this would make a crappy mix tape, I think it's clear that the 1st
album has more singles and WAEA works as, dare I say it, a concept. Yow.
Whose idea was this, anyway? :)

OK, first things first. I, like many others out there on the list, went
to check out the Summerstage show this past Wednesday. I must concur with
all you who said that they weren't as good as they were at Irving Plaza
back in April. However, there was, as many of you pointed out, a definite
lack of crowd energy due to unfamiliarity w/ the band and also a limited
amount of time that cut the set short didn't help matters, either, but all
my complaining aside , I thought that they picked up the energy
considerably during the 2nd part of the set and only then did they
approach the energy level that they had during the Irving Plaza show. I
must also comment on the omission of "Brick", as I think that song would
have worked really well with the strings. Outside of "Selfless, Cold, and
Composed" and "Smoke", I saw absolutely no reason for them to even be
there at all. They were better as a 3-piece anyway!
Now I'm glad that some of you seemed to enjoy Morphine. This show was
like a dream come true for me because 2 of my favorite current bands were
playing on a bill together! To correct the person who posted something
about them today, the bass that Mark Sandman plays is a 2-string (not 3)
and he plays it with a slide. Not to be too anal about that, but while
I'm at it... Also to be recommended, in addition to the albums "Yes" and
"Like Swimming" are their other 2 albums, "Good" and especially "Cure For
Pain".
Take Care all,
Matt

So I'm listening to the radio today, which I don't do very much of these
days, and I'm getting annoyed that they're playing the same songs over
and over (I swear I heard that "doot-doot-doot" song FOUR times), and
then they play Underground and One Angry Dwarf back to back! The DJ said
it was by request. So that was cool. But then this evening when they
played the top five requested songs of the week, One Angry Dwarf was #1
!!! BF5 is #1 in Austin! Woo-hoo!
The BF5 cover election is over. Give me a while to tabulate the 100+
ballots I received. That's gonna keep me busy...
I had a dream a couple of weeks ago in which I was supposed to create a
karaoke track to some new Ben Folds songs in which Ben played all the
instruments. A karaoke track is just the music with no vocals. I guess
I had this dream because on occasion I create karaoke tracks for a local
karaoke company. I was under time pressure to learn the songs, record
them, and deliver the tape, but then the dream kind of morphed into my
being late to deliver a pizza (which is something I've NEVER done, so I
have no idea where that came from).

Also, just got back from a show tonight...my new fave...the pulsars!!!!
They rock, and those of you who watch 120minutes with devotion to catch
the Battle video may have seen their first video, Tunnel Song. The band
rocks, and we got to take them out for tacos after the show, I got a
signed drumstick, and a set list. We also hung out with the band until 3
in the morning...it was loads of fun. They are just two brothers, and
they are synth masterminds, so they set a big dat/computer contraption on
stage that can play their synth loops for the individual songs, and then
the singer plays guitar and the other guy, Harry plays drums. Such a
great show, brilliant harmonies and songwriting. A band that all BFF
fans would love. They aren't techno, by any stretch, just great pop
music, with very, very cool effect.
Hell, I am an english major, and this note had some of the most obvious
run on sentences in history, oh well. I guess, that is why I am in radio
too.

hey, are there any chicagoans out there who taped last night's jbtv? if

get a video copy of it?
i was at the show and loved the way ben clowned around for jerry's
recording.
e-mail me personally at

NOT the artsci.wustl.edu address that's probably listed above.

good lord, i've never been this excited in my life! now i know what it's like
to be on speed. i was flipping channels this morning (radio, not tv) and
wonder of wonders! i heard brick by bff on the RADIO!!!! it was on a program
called sunday brunch here in kc on a channel called z95. so if there are any
kc fans out there (there used to be, but i don't think there are anymore :(,
), you should listen to sunday brunch and call them up and tell them how cool
bff is. speaking of no kc fans, it makes me very sad because i feel this
great urge to listen to ben folds five all the time and talk about them all
of the time, but there's no one here that i can chat with. just you guys, and
that's why i love you so darn much. oh, and just a side note, z95 played
fleming and john right after brick and they also play jamiroquai (which isn't
very surprising since the only song they play by him is virtual insanity
which is the only song mtv plays of him too) sorry, i went off on my own
there for a while. oh and michael, i'm sorry if i started your dream count. i
tell michael to keep track of my dreams because i'm the one who begged him to
post his dreams. so i was excited when i had one of my own. hope you don't
hate me because i'm a ramblin' fool.

hello all! i just got back from a fun filled weekend in Bloomington Indiana,
where i was horrified to discover that no one knew of BFF!! i was there for
freshman registration for Indiana University and I wore my "cool in school"
shirt hoping for at least a few words of recognition. but there were none! i
got plenty of "who are they?"'s and "never heard of them."'s and that was
it!! and then after seeing the NUVO article i became even more worried. is
anyone out there from Bloomington or indiana in general? please tell me there
is some BFF support in my future home state!! also does anyone out there
listen to anything other than pop? the only bloomington stations i could
find played that unfortunate combination known as Mix. yuck!! one moment
I'd be singing along to Beck and then, suddenly, i would be attacked by Boys
to Men or something equally frightening.
on a happier note 105.9 the lazer, the kansas university alternative station,
is now playing 3!!!! BFF songs in their rotation!! BoWCCL is still there,
one angry dwarf made it's debut saturday and underground is experiencing a
revival (though in a lighter rotation than the other two). Way to go
Kansas!!
finally, any Kansans out there going to HORDE? I'm getting my tickets
tommorow? email me, we're going to identify ourselves this time!!
