Thank god I wasn't hallucinating when I say the boys on M2 Sunday
afternoon! I knew my fellow armchairites would confirm my vision! I had
a migraine [it's pretty dang hot here in MA] and when I flipped to MTV I
was so surprised I actually said out loud, "Hey...wait a minute...that...
that looks like Ben Folds Five!" Well indeed it was, they were supposed
to be "chillin'" with the little VJ babe, who was, shall we say, not so
good with the interviewing skills: "So! You're Ben Folds! Great! Why
did you pick this video? Great!" But hey, anyone's better than Jenny
McCarthy... Well, they were explaining why they chose these videos, and
about the Chemical Brothers Darrren explained that they were cool because
of their Noel Gallagher (of Oasis) connection...hello! And then Ben adds
that Noel Gallagher is the reason he got into Burt Bachrach [seen Austin
Powers?], and then somehow they asserted that Noel Gallacher has a lot of
back hair, and theVJ says, "Well that hasn't been a problem for him with
the ladies, has it? Maybe he's learned to, y'know, turn it around..."
and Ben replies, oh so wittily, "Well, you shouldn't turn around, if you
have back hair." I was hysterical, really. The VJ asks about the Pat
Benatar video, "Love Is A Battlefield," and Ben starts like trembling he's
so excited, he's like "It's my favorite video! We wanted to recreate the
dance-off scene at the end in our video! In fact, that's how we fight, at
home, we dance!" Well who knew! I was pissing myself when they played
the Benater video too, it's like "Thriller" meets "Les Miserables" meets
an AfterSchool Special on runaways.... Looks like MTV isn't so worthless
afterall.

MY, what a paragraph!

In other [QUICK] news, re: the guy who asked about "pogoers" and other
illmannered folk at shows, I must say I am a BIG proponent of "pit"
hospitality, and I cannot abide people who make total asses of themselves
by flailing about, pounding into innocent bystanders, trying to climb up
on the stage, or screaming drunkenly about how much you love the band. In
my view, shut up and dance or at least move your friggin' head out of the
way. I'm usually Ms. Polite, but after sustaining bruises at Rage Against
The Machine I've gotten a lot more brazen. I have great horror stories,
even one or two from BFF shows, if anyone wants to kvetch with me...
My copious $0.02 for today....

That's ok, I understand... But firstly, my name is not Derek, it's Claire.
Secondly, I don't really know what it is, but I really like Cigarette - it's
like a breath of fresh air after Smoke, (I don't like Smoke much). Uncle
Walter is good, but ...... ok, I just went and listened to them both again.
I really like Uncle Walter, too. But Cigarette is quite beautiful really,
and I like the pretty piano. Maybe I was in an 'I hate Uncle Walter' mood
when I wrote my list... I dunno. But I still have to say that Uncle Walter
is not one of my faves.
So the score remains
WEAE 8 (+1), BF5 4

Oh, btw, for any AUSSIE readers, has anyone ever seen or heard that show on
the ABC where Underground is the theme song? I heard it one night and almost
fell out of my chair! I think it's called Songlines, but I could be wrong.
It's one of those...
Claire
