Subject: Surprise! It's BFF!
This should make up for all the disgruntled Folders who tuned in for
the nonexistent PBS show:
Completely by accident, whilst flipping through mindless cable tv last
night, I landed on a show on HBO (or maybe HBO2) at around 10pm CST, and
Soul Coughing was performing Super Bon Bon. So i watched it. After
they finished up, another musical segment came on...and i'll be darned
if it wasn't Ben Folds Five! First came about a 2 minute interview,
with Ben explaining his views on musical composition and how BFF are
different. Rob and Darren just sit there and grin while the camera
zooms around Ben. Then they show, in its entirety, BFF performing One
Angry Dwarf, taped from the Irving Plaza show! Unedited! The whole
song! I was shocked out of the laz-e-boy! So if anyone else has cable,
look out for reruns. I didn't check what the show is called, but it
features similar clips of "up and coming musicians" and also included
Son Volt, Tuatara (? that band with Peter Buck) and some others.

i really dunno how well this will work on this mailing
list, but on the soundgarden mailing list, time and again, weve had a
"you know youre obsessed with soundgarden when..." hell maybe this
topic has even shown up on this list before, i dunno, i've only been on
since february or so :) and i dunno if some of you may not like calling
yourselves obsessed (cuz you may not be..or you just dont like that
label, who knows) :) you can call it "devoted" or whatever you want,
but those of you who ARE "obsessed" if you feel like contributing to this
little topic, then go for it, theyre always pretty interesting to read
(at least, i think so, anyway).
onward and forward. you know you're obsessed with ben folds five
when.....
..you travel 150 miles to see them play for an hour, when you
just saw them headline a club show a month before
..every morning, you wake up and head right down stairs to check
the mail and get really angry when the presence of the "cool in school"
shirt you ordered fails to grace the mailbox
..as you're watching the weather channel, you hear the weatherman
say, "well bob, as this week's weather unfolds..." you hear yourself
say, "huh huh huh. folds. huh huh huh."
..when you take bad bff reviews personally and get upset.
..when you wish you had an uncle walter (uncle frankie and uncle
stevie are the best i can do).
..when you walk around the workplace, singing in a falsetto
voice, "i wanna wanna wanna wanna be...kate!"
i dunno, thats all i can think of for now. i heartily apologize
if anyone thinks this topic is stupid or demeaning to intelligent ben
folds five fans..i hope not though, because, from my perspective anyway,
its a fun topic.

Subject: HBO antics...
hey.
i just wanted everyone one to know i watched/taped that bff on reverb
thing the other night and it was pretty dope. it was more or less like
watching a live taping of the irving plaza show with some interview
material thrown in. (plus it is only 5 somgs or so) but it is really well
filmed and the have like 4 cameras or so and the sound is awesome. (i mean
it was on HBO so i guess its to be expected.) but the songs they played (i
am trying to remember off the top of my head so give me a break if i screw
up) Are:
kate
bowccl
song for the dumped
philosophy
and there may be one more i can't remember...
but if you were at that show and were up front you should be psyched
because you were probably on HBO. there are a lot of crowd shots and it is
easy to see everyone.
i would be willing to dub this if anyone wants it, i just have to figure
out how. so if you are interested and want to trade (and give me a
tutorial on dubbing video) it would be cool.
