A while back when the list was abuzz with the reverb show on HBO and the
Sessions show on PBS, someone mentioned BF5 doing something on a
satellite channel called Much Music. I was wondering if perchance that
person or another enlightened one could refresh our collective memory
about it. LASTLY...BF5 allegedly appeared on two Reverb shows on HBO. On
one show (with Duncan Shiek and others) they were the headliners and five
or six songs were played in their entirety. On the other show, which I
have not seen, they were not the headliners and the Eels were on with
them. THE BIG QUESTION-did they show any songs on the one with the Eels
that they did not show on the one they headlined? Wow! Think hard now.
Love and other nice stuff. Just another Michigan fan.

In a message dated 97-07-19 20:34:49 EDT, you write:

 Gen-X response. >>
this will hopefully be my last post in regard to this subject. If you did
know me, it would be quite obvious that I am who I am who I am. And I guess
my philosophy is that when I hear people talking about Gen-Xers and what not
and people are thinkin stuff like"yeah, I'm one of them" that is complete
bullshit...You are who you are.
just my opinion...but if you gladly consider yourself to be a Gen-Xer, then
that's alright w/ me too.
thanx for listenin

Why do we bother answering this question...

Tori and Ben play a distinct different style of music...they are
different musicians. Tori uses more flats and sharps than Ben does, but
Ben is far better with full chords. Ben is at top form on the swing
feels of The Last Polka and Steven's while Tori is much more at home
playing slow, carefully tempoed(is that a word?) ballads. It is like
comparing apples to oranges. It is like saying My Bloody Valentine is
better than Jellyfish. If you like drone rock(MBV) then you would think
that MBV is much better than the pure pop melodies of Jellyfish. I love
all of the afore mentioned bands in this note, and all of them have their
own outstanding talents.

They are both great piano players and will be forever remembered by their
fans. PS, I own a BFF song book and several Tori songbooks and both are
equally hard to play, as it is impossible to keep up with Ben, while on
Tori I can't get on Tempo. They are both brilliant ARTISTS!!!

hey everyone...

i was listening to the radio here in Richmond, Va. the other day (the BUZZ
106.5fm) and the top 5 at 5:00 came on. this is where they play the top 5
requested songs of the day. and i suppose i don't need to mention who was
number one....

Ben Folds Five: "One Angry Dwarf"

i couldn't believe it. BFF has finally gotten the credit and the audience
that they deserve.

just thought i'd let ya know.

whatever and ever, amen...

I think she most definitely could, but she couldn't have written it, just
like Ben couldn't have written "Horses". It's not ability, but style and
taste. I'm sure there are Tori lists where people say "Ben Folds is a
Fucking A**hole".... Oh, wait, I'm thinking of a BFF album.

>Ben Folds played the drums as a

Ben Folds' playing IS unique, but in my mind not because of percussive
elements. That's a sort of nod back to jazz pianists who were almost always
percussion players. Until people like Thelonius Monk (a great percussive
player) came along, the piano wasn't a big instrument for fast music. While
sax and trumpet players got the sweet solos and all the chicks, the piano
was in the rhythm section with bass and drums. I think Ben plays it like
both styles, with a little bit of rag and punk thrown in for kicks.

>Secondly, Ben is left-handed, and his power comes from the left side of the

Lefties are obviously superior in every way. I've always known that. Didn't you?

It's not that impressive, but I just like adding things to my collection. I
went out of my way to go to this one independent record store with scary
looking clerks to get a promo cassette of Ben Folds Five. It's called "Some
B-sides," and it's just that: "Song for the Dumped" (Japanese version), "For
All the Pretty People," "Mitchell Lane," and "Champagne Supernova" (live). I
already have "Champagne Supernova" from the "Battle" import, but otherwise
the tape is okay, since I don't own the other B-sides.

And the guy actually gave me a several copies of the tape... I guess they're
not real popular! Then another clerk asked if I wanted the video, and I
said.. "Um, I guess." So he ran out to his car and gave me the promo video
that was being sold with copies of "Whatever and Ever, Amen." It has a brief
BFF interview and the video for "Battle of Who Could Care Less." I was going
to ask the "scary and apathetic" clerks wearing Bauhaus T-shirts about the
pile of BFF stickers next to the stack of tapes, but I decided to just get
out of there, since I didn't even buy anything in the store! =Þ
