Dear Chuck Folds,

Do you think you could tell some stories about Ben when he was a kid or a
teenager?

I'll keep this short, but I have to say I'm rather upset and annoyed that
certain other armcharians believe we still want to see thier opionions
about Ben and Tori. I am leaving this message free of all personal
judgements on the matter, but I ask those that have been writing ad
nauseam about Ben vs. Tori, to please consider others. Thank you, and
feel free to send me hatemail!

Subject: Sledge vs. Claypool

Recently I've become pretty disappointed at Les's lack of enthusiasm in
writing music... pop died in the eighties, but that doesn't mean he can't
try to be a little more energetic and, well, cheesy (excuse the pun) with
his songwriting. Sledge rocks, and I find myself turning my stereo to
harmful levels to follow his playing under all of Ben's racket (don't
flame me for that, Ben is above mortal). To keep it short, I love Primus
and can't put Claypool second to anyone, but I commend Robert for keeping
a more focused view of what sounds good. ;)

By the way, my brother and I (the only BF5 freaks we know) will be at the
Indy HORDE this Friday. See some of you there...

Hey, I know I've tried this before, but in case this gets out in time, all
of you Armchairites who want to meet up at the Kansas City HORDE, I'm the
girl with a lot of blonde hair who will be wearing probably a white
button-down shirt with brown and orange stripes over a white tank, or
possibly a Semisonic T. Anyway, I'm the one who wore the Saturn jersey at
the Lawrence show and tried too late to hook us up -- come by and say hi!

<<I don't know if the ethics of bootlegs has been discussed here lately.
The Japanese imports and actual cd's that are recognized
by BF5 are all right. BUT DO NOT BUY UNAPPROVED BOOTLEGS.
This only hurts the band and the fans. Since it is not illegal
to sell bootlegs in the US, only to make them, there are plenty
of European companies willing to ship them here. Don't give in
to temptation. If the selling of bootlegs becomes a problem,
Ben and the boys may object to people taping further shows.>>
Any Ben Folds Five tape you come across will be LEGAL. The band approves
taping. However, if you come across a bootleg CD, this is ILLEGAL. But I
still want a copy of it. I have yet to see a BFF fan selling bootlegs
either. We have some of the nicest fans and most people will copy a show for
you even if you have nothing to trade. (you may have to supply tape and
shipping costs)
just my 2 cents

<< Now it's time for me to think up another stupid
question like who's the better bassist: Robert or Les Claypool of Primus.
 >>
I know this was a joke, but I can't help it. I know alot of you will be
thinkin Robert all the way. I too am a much bigger BFF fan than a Primus
fan. However, Les Claypool is a better bass player than Robert Sledge.
Robert's quite good though. But, in actuality they play different styles.
However, when you get down to it, Claypool could play Sledge's stuff but the
opposite would not be true. See for yourself at Horde!!!!!!!!!!

Heck, why don't we have a wrestlemania? Ben, Tori, Les, Hanson, Elton,
Victor Borge, and Bootsy Collins on one stage, playing Jeramiah was a
Bullfrog, with an extended Japanese verse. By the way... does Ben sell
T-shirts at HORDE, and is there any sign of the cool in school shirt
going back into production? If Robert's girlfriend is out there, she
needs to pass the word along that a lot of young hearts were broken when
that shirt was killed.

Let's give credit where credit is due. Ben is great. His music is
unique. The band is great. I agree with everything you say about his
skill.

But, you have to admit that (even though Ben apparantley does not like
joel) that Joel pioneered the "piano man" genre in pop music in the
latter half of this century clearing the path for bands such as BFF.

They are both excellent. Give Joel his credit, he has more songs under
his belt than bens birthdays.

Would'nt it be great to see them do a song or tour together?

I'm curious as to the age of people on this list. Am I right in assuming
that most people on this list are teenagers? It could explain a lot. By
the way, I'm 25.

BFF as their closer." JFK

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

So my last post was a little harsh. This whole Ben and Tori thing has made
everyone sorta loopy for some particular reason. BUT I'M NOT GONNA TALK
ABOUT THAT.

I'm just here in Boone, NC (named after the famous Daniel Boone of course)
at 3:00AM and I'm wondering if there is any person here in this town who
enjoys BFF also. My usually cool working and grad school buddies are
unfamiliar and are too busy to give somthing new a listen. So if anyone
out there in Boone or close to Boone (like there is anything close to
Boone) let me know. I'm desperate for a showmate since my former
graduated.

OK, so people can talk about what they want on this mailing list, but I just
want to put in my two cents. The Ben vs. Tori thing has gone too far. When
I'm reading, I feel like I'm reading the transcript of some talkshow. You
know, where everyone says the same goddamn thing over and over? Enough of the
Tori and Ben debate. Also, all the HORDE updates are making me sad. I missed
the show in Mountain View. Thanx for the space.

As I sit here at work listening to the BF5 discs over and over again, I
noticed that Sports and Wine sounds an awful lot like a School House
Rock song. Actually, a good chunk of the songs sound like they could be
School House Rock songs. Think about it: Jackson Cannery, Underground,
Uncle Walter, Even Boxing, and that's just off the first album. From
Whatever, I think that Stevens Last Night in Town, Battle and Dwarf
could be easily set to animation.

I think some Ben Folds Five cartoons are well in order. Can't you
picture and Uncle Walter cartoon, with a noisy old man flying around in
an overstuffed armchair, shaking his fist and wiping the spittle from
his chin, while a group of kids stand off in a corner smoking weed, with
the animated smoke floating over their head? Maybe I'm just running low
on sleep.

Anyway, its something to think about. Hey, wouldn't a full-length movie
type cartoon be cool. Kinda like Yellow Submarine?

Just a thought.

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

The band wants to let everyone know that the new video for "One Angry
Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces" will have its premiere on MTV's "120 Minutes"
this coming Sunday night, July 27. The show is on from 12:00 midnight to
2:00 Eastern (early Monday morning, actually).

Also, Ben's opinion is that Tori is the better piano player, but he could
whip Kareem Abdul Jabbar's ass. The Kid in Hansen? He's not so sure.

If you all want to flood my mailbox with inviting HELLO e-mails, feel free,
i havn't been online for a while and i need friends. the main reason i'm
writing in here is my interest in live tapes of the band. I have a pretty
extensive list of Phish, DMB, Dead, moe., and 4 BFF tapes. PLEASE if anyone
has any bff boots, try to get back to me asap if you want to trade to a
phriendly phan wanting to listen to some quality Ben Folds. Any help would
be greatly appreciated. thanks again. j. bolognino.
