I'm a bit wary of being flamed on mailing lists as of late (not
having somthing to do with this list, but another one) so I thought I'd
clear something up. In my last Armchair post I mentioned that my friend
Christine said she always listened to the Chinese version of "Song for the
Dumped"...now before anyone replys saying, "THATS NOT CHINESE YOU FRIGGING
IDIOT, ITS JAPANESE", listen, I know my BFF fairly well & I KNOW it's in
Japanese, I was just quoting my friend Christine, who isn't a big BFF fan
so cut her some slack :) Mmkay?

i've heard that the band's a lock for boston on tuesday, november 4, and
they'll also be making a northeast swing in early december for some
"alternative radio" xmas shows.

that stretch from nov. 3-7 is wide open, so those dates have to fill in
soon.

don't they?

all ages, at least when it comes to concerts. I'll be there... will you?

Hiya Fivers!
If you go to the BF5 main web site (www.bffweb.com i think) there is a
place to get stuff. You can in fact get the cool in school shirt but they
only have it left in mediums. I just got mine in the mail 4 days ago (i
ordered it around the beginning of july i think) anyway, there is a phone #
there too and so you can call up and ask a real person what they have left.
Good luck cause the shirt is way kick ass!!!!!! Peace!

PS. Alot of people have responded to my HELPHELP notice. So... I am
thinking... way awesome BF5 caravan up to Pitts and Philly from the MADCVA
area? Keep it in mind my friendly little fiver buddies. stay chill.

From: "BECK" <beckwk@pnc.com.au>
Subject: Sydney Uni Concert

Well this is my bit for the month:

I went to the Sydney Uni. concert on the 25th of september and I say
that I was pretty let down by the performance, i don't know why, I
guess I was just expecting more.

The support bands were pretty cool, i really enjoyed the bit by the
Amatuer Lovers, from Seattle, they played quite well in the face of
many technical adversities.

I suppose this was the main problem for the band. Facing up to a Uni.
gig in a foreign country unsure of the sound quality and the response
the crowd will give you.

The majority of the music they played was from WEAEA, with a few songs
from their debut album, which was slighty disappointing as I hoped to hear
some of the stuff that can't be purchased is Oz, Such as "Dr Pyser" and
"Fanny packs". apart from that however it was quite alright, they guys
seemed pretty casual about it all knocking back a few cool ones on stage,
and as I expected from hints from this very digest, Ben performed his
typical
showmanship tricks, playing with feet, bashing strings with mike, stool
throwing yada yada yada.

Of all the guys Robert was the most interactive with the audience, Robert
actually
surprised me quite a bit, from the album covers he looks kinda small, but
in reality
he is quite stocky, more solid than I thought. I must admit, though, that
all of them really
get involved in the music they are playing, esp Darren, I never seen any
one hit the
skins quite so hard (I wonder what he was thinking when he broke the
cymbol)

All in all it was a most enjoyable evening, with my favourite part of the
night being
Bens improvised rapping on top of his piano, which confused quite a few
fans who
were there only on the strength of Underground. Seeing them live has pushed
Robert
up from #2 to #1 in my best bass players list, surpassing Flea. With the
only
disappointing aspects being the lack of non-album material and the lack of
any kind
of variation in the songs (except for a few mid session/song drum breaks).

If you were there, you might have seen me, i was standing up on top of the
wardrobe, I was quite a spectacular vantage point. ANNA, I'm very sorry I
didn't get to see you but i lost the car and couldn't find it for about
30mins
hence I was late!

Forgive me if it's been asked etc...

I recently went to a used CD store in the Buffalo, NY area and
I spotted they had *every* BFF single CD ever released as of yet
(I think it was all of them, it was alot!). Anyhow, they were marked
9.99, and I thought this was a mistake so I asked the guy and he
said "no." Are these singles so hard to find? Are they worth 10 bucks
for 3 songs?

Please e-mail me any correspondance,
thanks

Subject: Brick is finally here

Hey everyone,

On my way to work this morning, I finally heard Brick on the radio!
I've been complaining to my local station for months to play some of the
new stuff, and finally this morning they came through. The song was a
feature and labeled Joey's "prospect" song of the week (Joey being the
morning DJ). The prospect song, as he explained it, is his choice of a
new song that he believes will make it big.

Also according to him, the music industry is expecting this to be the
second coming of The Freshman. I was lees than thrilled to hear that (I
really despise that song).

Just thought I'd let everyone know. If your out cruising the WEB and
want to do me a favor, stop in at the radio's home page
(wber.monroe.edu) and ask them to play more Ben Folds Five stuff. I'd
certainly appreciate it.

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

Subject: Lita Ford (did I catch your attention?)

Hello the 'Chair!

I just wanted to drop a quick note for two reasons...

1.) Had another dream about Ben, Robert and Darren last night... I was at a
concert and the only thing I can remember is that they did a cover of Lita
Ford's "Kiss Me Deadly". I woke up this morning thinking... BFF rocked me
right down to a nub wit that song in my dream. So what does this mean? Am I
a prescient? I doubt it... but maybe the five would like to cover Lita
(ummmm... lemme rephrase that... cover Lita's song, yeah -- *that's* what I
meant!)

2.) As to all the controversy in Oz about Ben and his piano stool... As far
as I know... he throws his piano stool a lot (well, at least he has every
time I've seen him perform). I saw it first on Jenny McCarthy (on MTV) and
then he also did it at HORDE... so that's that. So I don't think they are
courting controversy for the publicity... I think he just likes the
weirdness of someone beating on a piano (as opposed to kicking over a drum
set or smashing a guitar... which are more normal in the rock world). All I
can say is... Rock On, Ben!

I just forwarded this morning's Armchair (the one w/3 unsubscribe posts
from Josh Furnal) back to Josh Furnal reminding him of the plain and
specific unsubscribe instructions provided by our fearless leader,
Frank, @ the top of this list every day. I suggest everyone else do the
same. In fact, I did it 3 times (3 tedious unsubscribes=3 forwardings
of the Armchair courtesy of Marcus:-)). Perhaps if we all forward that
from which he wishes freedom, he'll learn to read. A) He should be
burned in email effigy for being an idiot (will he fit in a microwave,

What's up, all? Here's some more tour dates for the Gladhands, who rock
out even if it isn't likely that you'll see members of the Five at any of
these dates. For those of you who still haven't checked out Robert's bass
on their new album, you are MISSING OUT.

Thur. 10/9--Nashville @ 12th & Porter
Fri. 10/10--St. Louis @ Side Door Club
Sat. 10/11--Omaha @ 18th Amendment
Mon. 10/13--pending (...maybe Ames or Des Moines,IA)
Tue. 10/14--Chicago @ Beat Kitchen
Wed. 10/15--St. Paul @ Turf Club
Thur. 10/16--Iowa City @ Gabe's Oasis
Fri. 10/17--pending (...Indianapolis?)
Sat. 10/18--St. Louis @ Cicero's (Midwest Regional Music Fest)

I have also heard that Ben & Co. are playing the Ritz in Raleigh on
October 18 but no one seems to be able to sell us tickets. I am dragging
a friend down from New York to come see them.

And finally, I am student teaching at a high school here in Chapel Hill
and one of my kids wrote the lyrics to Song for the Dumped in his journal
entry. I felt so bad for him, but hell yeah! That's a great way to cope
with your anger!
