Hi,
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in trading some tapes? I
have the BOWCCL import singles, Where's Summer B? import singles, and
the Underground import singles. I'm looking for the Kate import singles
and basically any other BFF stuff that I'm not able to get anywhere in
the Philadelphia area. If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it
and you can e-mail me privately.

salutations fellow armchairites!
heather mentioned something about some dude asking her about "5 Ben
Folds." i thought it was phunny, becuz i too have come across someone
screwing our favorite fellows' name up.
my roommate works at our school's radio station (KLSU), and he's the new
music director. he gets to listen to all kindsa' new music and decide what
goes on the playlist. he also hosts (oh suprise!) the New Music Show.
well anyway, we were in the studio one night while he did his show, and
some guy called in wanting to know if there was anything new from "Ben's
Folding Five."
now THIS brings a phunny picture to mind! i imagine a pop-up book. or
maybe a video store display.
okay... now for un-bff related stuff:
some friends of mine and i have been playing music around Baton Rouge,
but we've yet to come up with a name for ourselves. can anyone supply us
witha good name? we play alterna-country-blues-folk-punky stuff. and we do
silly covers (not unlike the BFF) like "eye of the tiger" and "scooby
dooby doo" and "billie jean is not my lover."
yer suggestions would be appreciated!

Hey--
Let me just say first off, that you know you really love Ben Folds Five
when you know "Song For The Dumped" by heart in japanese (except of
course for those that actually know how to speak japanese, then I guess
it's not such a big deal).
Anyways, whoever posted the link to the BFF cover of "She Don't Use
Jelly" in RealAudio is just really nice. It's such a cool song and it's
on the cd "Lounge-a-palooza" which will be at Best Buy on Oct. 7 for
those interested. I think the second verse about a guy that wipes his
nose, is sung by either Rob or Darren, though it sounds more like Rob.
It doesn't sound like Ben (he does the 1st and 3rd verse, I think). But
either way it's really rad that they do that. Go check out the song at
http://www.chaoskitty.com/t_chaos/radio/features.html
On the "Some B-Sides" tape where they cover "Champagne Supernova",
there's that part where it goes "where were you while we were getting
high..." and someone in the audience screams out "I DON'T KNOW!!". I
thought it was muy cheesy but I guess some people just get really giddy
:)
Take Care.
Janet.

hey-
I just saw Scott post something about not knowing the words to that one
part in Underground.
"We'll be decked in all black, slammin' the pit fantastic..."
That should be it, correct me if I'm wrong.
As for my own little lyric blunders, that one part in Missing The War
that goes "so much time, so little to say", for the longest time I
always sang it as "so much time-powered will to say" I don't know.
Don't ask.
Great Emaline quote, it's my favorite song.
Take care.

I know you guys have already posted this, but I have to comment on it. First
of all, I love Drew Carey. He is the greatest, coolest person. Second, when
I heard that he was going to be on MTV Live I freaked out. I was as excited
as a school girl on prom night. After some interview crap when he said he
wanted to see BF5, I swear I came so close to peeing all over myself. It is
such a baddass feeling to know that someone you admire thinks a "small time"
band is cool. I give Drew & all his fellow actors on the Drew Carey show a
big high "five." And to Drew, "I love you, man!"

Three words to describe the Adelaide gig - Absolutely f**king brilliant!
They played about the same set list as the Melbourne gig, with an addin of a
song about their crew member Tres who thinks he's fat.
They well and truly got into the atmosphere of the CROWS WIN
How come we don't get two or more shows like melbourne and sydney?!?!
Oh Well. Just happy they played once:)

<< I have seen the band 4 times now. On the first tour in Atlanta,
Kansas City and Omaha. I saw them in Lawrence, KS on this tour.
Every time I have seen them, Ben has thrown his stool at the piano.
He is not trying to destroy it. He is attempting to get sounds from
his instrument that are unique. Listen to the first album. >>
I have seen the band once, in Jan 96. Not once did Ben throw the stool, but
he did do a running in-the-air body slam of his piano for the last chord in
Philophy, the final song in the set.

now
gone completely out of control. There is a time and place for
everything, including moshing, and it seems ludicrous to me that anybody
would mosh at a BFF concert."
While I'm sure we all respect how experienced you are in the lost art of
moshing, this last statement, Jerry, begs the question 'why?' Why is it
"ludicrous" for fans to mosh at a BF5 concert? (implying that it's ok to
do it at other, less 'sophisticated' gigs). I think that moshing is
great fun, despite the odd kick in the head from passing crowdsurfers,
and why shouldn't Ben's fans be allowed to get absolutely animal to his
music? Moshing is a way for fans to express their basest, most
animalistic emotions while listening to music they love, music they can
feel. Surely the Five would be flattered to see people getting so into
their sound.
Certainly "there is a time and place for moshing" - at rock concerts!!
(or don't BF5 do them anymore?)
Cheers, Petra

Hello People,
Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm going to see them again on
Sunday at the Metro. I'm just as excited as I was before the first one.
Another thing, does anyone know of any BFF posters in existence. I
went looking for some this morning in Sydney and none of the music shops had
any. Blockbuster Music had promotional posters at the front but the guy said
they belong to the promoters and can't guarantee me of getting one. If
anyone knows how I can get my hands on one, please e-mail me back.
As for Kerri-Ann and Co, they can all jump in the lake.
Well catch ya all later,
Anna
* is there another way of having the BFF chat thingy cos my ISP won't let me
use chat lines. It is a uni provider and they think chat lines aren't
beneficial to education. But they still let me use IRC, ICQ (not chat rooms
though) and Freetel for some reason. BTW UIN is 2143059.
* Also I have aria's and recovery on tape, as well as there performance on
the radio (JJJ). If anyone's interested. Too bad I don't have the Kerri-Ann
show.
* One last thing: GO THE KNIGHTS!!!!!! SUCKED IN MANLY!!!!

Any suggestions would be welcome.

In a recent interview in Musician magazine, the interviewer asked Ben
about his unique technique (I'm a poet + I know it). I had never
noticed until then, but Ben keeps his fingers pretty far towards the
back of the keys (towards the piano itself). He says he does this just
so he can "drop bombs" by slamming his palms down on the front of the
keys. He not only writes great songs + comes up w/fascinating
arrangements ("like a Neil Sedaka song"-Ben) but he reinvents piano
technique to fit his needs-the true American musical tradition! Just
thought I'd share:-).
