I though it was "We'll be dressed in all black, slammin' the pit
fantastic..." This could be really wrong too, I'd love to know what
they're talking about.

Having nothing to do with the lyrics, I think one of the best jokes in
their music is when Darren hits the metal pipe right after they yell
"It's industrial!" Live, he just hits a cymbal or Ben hits a few random
high keys on the piano, which is a shame, because I wait with a grin to
hear that little PING every time I put the album on. I think if I had
one recommendation for the boys, it would be to get a cowbell or
something like that for Darren's set. My last band had one, and it made
little accents like that really fun.

Some of you seem to know the most bizarre things about what goes through
Ben's head, and this has been puzzling me for a long time. What is Ben
talking about in Julianne when he sings about "dragging my bag of trash
up and down the road"? Is there a story to this?

I was just wondering...what's the deal with taking photos at a BFF concert?
I'd really love to take pictures, but then I don't want to blind the band or
anything with my flash. So for those who have taken photos before: would you
recommend bringing your camera?

thank you, SO very much for posting that! just to make sure...the ticks
only go on sale the day BEFORE???

ok. anyone out there on the Chair go to Ohio State? my gf ended up seeing
this girl who lived across the hall from her...in Neilwood Gables.... and
had a BFF t-shirt and shrine....well if you're out there HELLO! and just
hello in general, fellow Ohioans...

one last thing. people have been talking lately about mumbled/weird
lyrics....well i have a question in particular to anyone that might have a
theory/answer. i absolutley love EVERY BFF song and have been able to
extract meaning from most of the songs....but one lyric just keeps stumping
me. it's in Alice Childress. where he goes

" an arranged marriage is not so good."

my friend Katie and i keep wondering "WHAT the hell? " and would just like
to know what that is supposed to mean in the context...or out...or
ANYTHING...i was at the Pitts show in June jumping around front
stage....hoping they might sing AC so i could say WHY IS IT NOT SO
GOOD????? well it's obvious but what do you mean?

and while i'm on fantasies...wouldn't it just be great to get to sing
'guest vocals' on a song in concert? what would you all do? i'd pry pick
"Sports and Wine." it's so much fun....lots of scatting and of course "i
know what i know I KNOW YOU MAKE ME SICK!"

alllright....well anyone going to the Boston show....see ya there...i'll be
the blonde kid jumping around like a maniac singing every word!!!

I was checking the calender a couple of minutes ago and it hit me that
there's a teacher convention on the 30th & 31st, so I can go to the
concert at the Vic in Chicago on the 30th, anyway! Does anybody know the
ticket prices for the show & the phone number for the box office?
My brother's gonna be thrilled. He'd better, because he's the only legal
driver in the house that'll want to go to the show, unless someone wants
to carpool.

Dear Fivers,

Ha ha. This could get ugly. I am such an anti-moshing freak. It's so stupid.
What Petra said about it being an expression of how much you loved the music
is a piece of shit!! If I were playing I would think it would be kind of
disrespectful and annoying to have someone trash your concert and hurt
people. I mean, dance around, sing the songs, and have fun. Just don't get
TOO crazy if you know what a mean....

I had no idea what most of the lyrics were until I visited a lyrics page.
IT's cool now. I can sing em' without confusion. I never really messed up
slammin the pit fantastic.
I can't go to Birmingham. I WANT TO SO BADLY. I have lots of friends that
are going and are like, you're too young, sorry!!! How fucked up is that?
UGH. I love Ben. I want to see Rob and Darren too. From what it sounds
like, those guys are hot!! I can't wait until I'm a senior.

i must say that what this anonymous person wrote kinda pissed me off!!!!
it is just pitiful!!!! it clearly states in the armchair (mmay i note,
ON EVERY ARMCHAIR) that to unsubscribe you send a letter to the address

Hi kids. I have not been able to sit in the armchair for awhile, but felt
motivated to write anyway. Last Friday, I started my car and head 'Brick'
playing. That's strange, I thought, wasn't it on 'Kate' when I turned the
car off ten minutes ago? Think again, self, I thought, because Ben and his
pot smoking pals were actually getting airplay. 101.5 here in scenic
Tallahassee Florida has this gimmicky thing (I think many stations do)
where they play two songs, and listeners vote on their favorite. The champ
stays on the next night. 'Brick' had won two nights in a row already.
Sadly, in spite of calls from both mine and my roomate's line : ), Brick
drowned last night, a four night champion, which is pretty good, since most
people get sick of hearing the same song every night at the same time.
Cool. Also, I am enjoying a week long adrenaline buzz after finding out the
BFF was finally doing some Florida gigs. Even if I have to go to
Jacksonville. What is wrong with Tallahassee? : ( Nonetheless, I will be
going to the October 21 show.

Cool.
Jason

Hi
I was wondering if anyone has the ability to record video onto their
computer and save it as either quicktime or avi. I'm planning on putting
entire BF5 videos up on my web page in RealVideo. I will send you a tape
of their videos, including Uncle Walter, through the mail for you to record
off. If you can do this and are willing to e-mail giant video files, E-MAIL
ME!!!!!

That would rule beyond all ruling! although I think EJ wrote at least a

This well illustrates the point I wanted to make about moshing. Moshing
is less about hearing the music being played than it is about just
f---ing s--- up. True, BFF may sometimes want to f--- s--- up, but
their music really should be listened to. Gaby's post (and Gaby, please
don't take offense, I have nothing against you or moshing, I'm just
making a point-- please keep posting) had nothing to do with BFF, just
moshing. That indicates to me that the moshing is more important than
the music to some fans. And that's OK, but please keep it in an
environment where people are expecting it-- such as loud, hard-driving,
beat-heavy shows-- because an unexpected pit can really ruin the show
for other fans who want to just stand and admire the musical prowess of
the Five.

And please forgive me if my tone implied that I felt that "moshing
music" was less sophisticated than other types of music. God forbid I
should say that-- bands like Slint, Fugazi, Don Caballero, Snapcase,
etc. DO have a definite sophistication, even if it's not as present to
the ears as it is in music with less volume. I have nothing against any
type of music (except insipid music that is based more on marketing than
on composition). It's just that I am looking forward to being able to
see Ben Folds Five without getting knocked over.

Jerry
