NOT POST UNSUBSCRIBE REQUESTS TO THE LIST ITSELF! If you are having
trouble, send mail to owner-armchair@maillist.il.fontys.nl and I

CHAIN LETTERS AND OTHER GARBAGE POSTS
Please do not post chain letters (or anything not relating to Ben
Folds Five). They are off topic, as is any discussion of them.
Apologies for the very large issue 529, and apologies to anyone
whose mailer couldn't handle it. (I received several bounces from Juno
addresses.) This was the result of someone replying and quoting the
entire digest in doing so. If you missed it, check the Magical Archive
(http://oeonline.com/bff/list/) in a couple days.
Please keep all posts on topic of Ben Folds Five only!

BOUNCE, BOUNCE, BOUNCE
I have been getting a lot of bounced digests lately, many due to
full mailboxes (but for other reasons as well). In a few days I will
begin weeding out any subscribers whose mail consistently bounces. If you
find yourself unsubscribed, this may be why.

WHEN REPLYING: Please change the subject of your reply to something
pertinent to the message. Don't leave it as "Magical Armchair Digest,

Subject: My Take on Moshing...

I just returned from a Mighty Mighty Bosstones show, where I had a
great time on the main floor, listening to 4 Boston skap bands, including
Bim Skala Bim, and skanking. (Did I mention I like ska? :> ) Anyway,
things are going fine right up until the Bosstones came on stage. I was
near to the front with my friend Jeannie (a 5'4", buck-o-five pound Asian
girl who couldn't arm-wrestle a flower). Anyway, the Bosstones come on
stage, people rushed in to start a pit, and my friend was nearly crushed.
Luckily, I had my Superman tights and cape on tonight, and I was able to
drag her to saftey. Which is kinda cool, 'cuz now, technically, I own her.
;) Anyway, my problem isn't moshing itself, because I've been known to
jump in a pit once or twice, it's the disregard for the people around them
when they make the pits. Anyway, that's my two cents.

hi,

>O.K Im sure you Australians are cool and all,

but...?

but I could give a flying
>fuck

what happened to the clean language we were all asked nicely to use?

what the hell this rage crap is, the Armchair has gone from BFF
>discussion, to what the hell is happening on Rage. I dont care, Im sure
no
>American cares, and frankly, Rage sucks. I haven't even seen it, but it
>sounds like they are copping a feel on MTV.
>

ok, I'm sure you're not stupid but... if you've been reading all the
messages, you'd find that most of the conversation has derived from
belly-aches about moshing, Lounge-a-pollooza and Ticketmaster. The
first one applies to all, the other two don't. The discussion about
Rage applies to this list because there was a BFF special on it. I sure
as hell don't want to read stuff about Ticketmaster and I couldn't give
a tinker's cuss about how much of a booking fee you have to shell out to
see a band for. Why don't you do what I do: skip over the bits you
don't want to read. ???!!! Was that an idea that just came into your
head? Try being a little more tolerant about other people and their BFF
talk, what, are you going to tell the New Zealanders to get stuffed with
their BFF talk that doesn't apply to you? The Armchair may be American
based, and BFF may be Americans, but they're also international, so stop
being so territorial about the topics of conversation, and stop being a
whinging little spoiled brat about it.

>And another thing. No one in Pearl Jam is a better musician than the
boys.
>Particularly Jeff Ament. The only thing Jeff is better than Robert at
is
>not showering. Pearl Jam sucks fat whale wad, and they should all be
burned
>to remove that putrid stench of not showering from their worthless
bodies.
>The fact that you compared them to the greatest band in the universe in
>sickening, I think you and your potty mouth should be washed with soap
just
>like Pearl Jam needs to be.
>

Sorry? PJ?? what do they have to do with anything apart from being
part of the TIcketmaster episode? oh right, YOU'VE said it, so it's GOT
to be relevant. get off your pedastal and get a life.

culmination of true emotional insight, sensitivity and a "no kiss ass"

Hi all, I haven't had a chance to read most of the armchair over the past
week or so but that's not what this letter is about. I saw on a chair from
a little while ago some one said about a web page dedicated to misheard or
warped BFF lyrics, and I would like to say, if no one has do so already,
that I will put up a page of these lyrics. So if you have any misheard
lyrics please send them to me and I will do up that page.

BTW to the guy how said that pearl jams bass player is better then Robert
because he jumps around, does this mean that Flea from the chili peppers is
even better because he's been jumping around for years??

I thought of a few ways to reply to this message... Firstly it was, "One word for you... FUCKSTICK". Then I thought I should tell you why.

Well... Rage is certainly nothing like MTV. You wanker.

It's totally BFF related, because they chose the vids and spoke about them. You FUCKSTICK.

And if no AMERICAN cares... Well you can take your AMERICAN attitude and shove it up your AMERICAN arse.

Why is it that you have to start drawing lines like that? I wasn't writing those messages to impress anyone from any particular country. You're a wanker. Go back to your obviously very worthless life and leave us alone...

Subject: chill out, everyone!!

What is up with everybody?!

Lately the Armchair has metamorphosed from 'Ben Folds Five Discussion
Group' to a 'Let's Attack Everything Anyone Says Group'. Anytime someone
introduces a new topic (ie: moshing, Pearl Jam's bass player, Rage - say
no more) someone else gets angry (and usually REALLY angry) and writes
incensed emails to the digest. I mean, sure, discussion about topics
should be promoted in a digest such as this - we don't want everyone on
one side of an argument. But when it turns as nasty as some of the posts
we've been getting lately, what is the bloody point? It's just getting
crazy. Can't we all discuss/debate topics maturely, without having to
resort to personal digs or aggressive language? And if you object to
something so much that you can't resist screaming obscenities, then
email (or flame) the person privately, please don't do it on the
Armchair.

Does anyone agree or am I the only one with even a slight grip on sanity
around here?

Cheers,
Petra

Thanks to Gregory for the info on Amateur Lovers. I saw the single in the shops the other day and they have joined my list of 'music to check out' - a list which has grown somewhat after watching the 3 hours of Rage programmed by BFF. One band in particular really caught my ears ... unfortunately I've forgotten what they were called so I'll now have to go and watch it again .... argh!!

For people in the Canberra/Sydney area (or beyond!) just thought I'd drop a plug for the Canberra band 'Trouser Trouser' who are releasing a cd (not sure if it's EP or full length) on the 25th (I think). They're kinda a mix between BFF (okay, so I'm maybe a little unimaginative as, yes, they use an electric piano) and Custard and worth checking out.

Oh - and a thanks to Marcus whose 'chicken squawking tale' has lessened the 'guilt' I feel when I hear 'Fair' and think of chickens ... (and now Muppet chickens .....!!!).

Later,

Liz

Hi everyone,

It appears that the Pittsburgh show is for students only and, if this
is truly the case, do we have anyone on the list who would be willing to
get me a single ticket for the show?? Plus - even if I was to get a ticket
for the show, would they check for student ID at the door?

If someone can set me up with tix for the show, I'm more than happy
to provide pre-show cocktails :) :)

This is the only tour date which isn't listed on Frank's tour dates page.
Is this show definitely happening?? It seems a wee bit close to their
UK dates so curious...

I am a drummer + I can therefore proudly say that Darren is a much
better drummer than the guy from PJ. Besides, PJ fired one of the best
drummers out there, Dave Abruzzese, for not fitting their image. How
pretentious is that? Eddie said, + I quote, that Dave was "too rock",
whatever the hell that means. I thought PJ prided themselves on
continuing the guitar-hero-rock of the mid-'70s. BTW, I think I may
have inadvertently begun this whole PJ-BFF debate in defending the boys
from Shawn of BRAD's envious + slanderous attacks. If I did, I'm truly
sorry to those of us who couldn't really give a rat's ass about PJ. I
simply meant to attack a whiny, jealous b*tch for his whiny, jealous
critique of the greatest band in over 20 years-Ben Folds Five:-)!

It might also be added that Beck's father is an accomplished arranger
who, in the 70s, worked for, among others, Bob Dylan. This is certainly
not to say Beck didn't make it on talent + talent alone, I just thought
it might be interesting to know. Then again, it might not:-).

Um, Hello.
This is Justin again, and I was wondering if anyone knew if Ben and
the guys granted interviews before or after shows. I've asked around and
most people tell me they do, but I'm wondering if they grant them to high
school television stations.
While they're in Lawrence the 19th of November I'd like to bring a
camra and set up an interview for BBS-TV, the award winning, national
standard setting High School Broadcast program from Garden City High School
in Garden City KS. We are the only high school member of the KAS (Kansas
Association of Broadcasters) and have press clearance to most events in
Kansas. So if anyone out there knows if they'd do this kind of thing,
please backchannel me and let me know. We'd love to feature them on our
Friday Night News. Thanks!
