Actually, Summer B. is a person. Darren's ex, to be more specific.
If you listen closely you hear it in the song. See, that's the difference
between fans and fanatics. Don't worry, we'll corrupt you fully. ;)
Laters!

P.S. Just 'cause I'm going to the EMU show and I haven't had one in a very
long time..... JOYGASM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nobody misses anything on that intro. It just begins on the "and" of 4
instead of the downbeat. Give our boys some credit. It's not like
that's the only complex thing they do. It's not even that complex or
unusual, but since it happens @ the very beginning of the song, our ears
don't have anything to anchor to yet. I'm a drummer + I sometimes don't
anchor onto that groove till the 1st chorus. Just listen more closely +
you'll enjoy BFF even more:-). (That's 1 reason musicians do nutty
things like that, y'know-to get the listeners' attention. That's also 1
of the many reasons BFF is the best band out there right now-they don't
take us for intellectual doormats who don't know how to listen to actual
music!)

Came across this blurb on AllStar Magazine's web page:

> Caroline Records will be
> releasing a Ben Folds Five
> album of rarities and live tracks,
> tentatively on Jan. 13. The title
> and track listing is still being
> finalized by the band

Rumours of this project have been floating around for a few
months, but this is the first I've seen of a specific release
date. Does anyone have any supporting/contradicting info?

Howie

Hello-
I enjoy reading all of the different opinions and views of BF5's music
and personalities and anything else related to the band. That is the
whole point of this list and what makes it interesting so dont take this
as me knocking anything anyone says. But being Ben's brother I cant help
but notice an occasional error (which normally I never mention) and I
also recieve quite a bit of e-mail asking me personal questions about him
(which 99% of it I dont feel is appropriate to answer). But I'll just
fill you in a bit on a couple of posts I saw recently and to answer a
question that I've been asked about a hundred times (not complaining, I
love getting e-mail from BF5 fans).
Yes, our mother was at the Ritz show, our father went to the Tremont show.
The girl who was with my mother was my wife Rachel, not Kate. I believe
Kate is on the west coast right now.
Our family is from (and for the most part still lives in) the
Winston-Salem/Greensboro area. Ben and I both were born in Greensboro and
grew up and went to high school in Winston-Salem (quite a few have asked
me what high school in chapel hill he went to). We both also went to
University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Ben moved to Chapel hill
around '94 and to the best of my knowledge is the only Folds living in
that part of the state.
My mother doesnt have blonde hair, so the lady Lance is talking about was
definitely not her.
When Ben mentioned during a song(I'm not sure which one, I wasnt there)
that it was our mothers favorite part of the show, he was actually joking
about the butt wiggling thing, she hates that. And I believe her favorite
song is "Boxing".
Hope that answers a few questions that I got recently.
Thanks for supporting my bro' and his music so enthusiastically.
take care

Hello chair folk,
A little while back someone said that Evaporated has only been performed
live once. is this true? and does anyone have a tape of it that they'd
wanna trade me for? As someone emntioned the other day, it's a great
f*ckin' song. Right now i'm in a kind of place where it applies to my
life, so it's all the more poignant as i sit in Philosophy class next to
a guy who i at one time could have been in love with. but things
change....(evaporate?)
anyhoo, speaking of my philosophy class, i have this professor who is
really nutty, but that aside, if Ben Folds was 6'5" and talked like
Marvin the Martian, he'd be my teacher. kinda scary.
I've decided that next semester I'm gonna take beginning piano, so if
anyone has any sheet music (i know you're out there!) could you drop me
a line so i can get a hold of it...I'll pay for postage and stuff.
Hmmmm, I know there was something else I wanted to say...oh yeah on the
self titled disc, at the end of philosophy i know you can hear Ben(?)
saying "Cut that bitch off, somebody." but i was listening to the cd on
my discman last night and quieter int eh back ground I think it's darren
in an english accent saying "we're swervedriver...where's the party?" i
cracked up 'cause I've actually heard of swervedriver and they're on the
PCU soundtrack (Ok song, nothing to write home about). so my question
is,did the guys play with swervedriver and did they end up being
assholes or something? Too funny.
well, that's it. enough of my ramblings for now...
