Hi there - I'm a Philly fan, and I was wondering if anyone knew how to get
backstage passes to the Electric Factory show. I guess I should probably try
to contact their label...I tried emailing their manager, but no luck.

Here is the press release for the upcoming Caroline release "Naked Baby
Photos" that went out today:

****FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE****

Ben Folds Five "Naked Baby Photos"
(Caroline 7554 - CD)
Street Date: January 13, 1998

"It's weird to look through all the scrapbooks and see all these naive
looking, sometimes tired pictures of shit you barely remember. We kinda got
emotional about it, I guess. Well, maybe we just hadn't had enough sleep
that day, but anyway...here they are, made public for the first time, our
Naked Baby Photos" - Ben Folds

This is the album that Ben Folds Five fans have heard the band was
preparing - capturing both the studio side of the band as well as their
live performances upon which they have deservedly built a massive
reputation.

Naked Baby Photos' 16 tracks include 8 soon-to-be favorite studio songs -
featuring "Emaline," "Eddie Walker," "Tom and Mary," "Bad Idea," and "For
Those Of Ya'll Who Wear Fannie Packs." Five of these studio tracks have
never been available before - despite their frequent inclusion in the
band's current live sets. The remaining three studio tracks include: the
ultra-rare, out-of-print debut 7" of "Jackson Cannery," the original
version of "Bad Idea" (which the band consider superior to the released
version), and a live in-studio KCRW performance of "Alice Childress."

The 8 live tracks (recorded in Chapel Hill, Tokyo, and London) capture the
band's in-concert intensity which has made them one of the hottest live
acts around. Here are standout live versions of crowd-pleasers from both
their studio albums including "Underground." "Philosophy," and "Song For
The Dumped." Three of these live tracks are new, not even available as
studio versions, including a cover version of Built To Spill's "Twin Falls."

The band chose all of the songs on "Naked Baby Photos". Ben produced the
collection and wrote all of the liner notes. Robert Sledge co-desiged the
artwork for the package.

Hi everyone,
For those of you wondering about Travis, they are a Scottish band that has
apparently been around for a while. One of their songs is on a recent CMJ
disc (sorry, I can't remember which one) and it didn't sound too bad. Well,
this Sunday will be my fifth BFF show and needless to say I'm counting down
the seconds. By the way, Brad, if you're out there and going to the show
maybe I'll see you there....we can sing a little of The Brad Song. (In case
you don't remember, I was behind you at the TLA show in April and I wrote a
review on here which you seemed to like). Bye folks.

Okay i recall that during the cleveland show some kid jumpped up on stage
and begain playing piano with Ben.
ben put his arm around the kid when the security guy came over but the kid
was escorted off anyway.
Ben seemed real cool about it, he was trying to show the kid the notes to
play on the upper keyboard.
i was wondering
a> if anyone knew the kid who got up on stage and
b> if the kid got escorted to backstage where he could meet ben and the
bend or if he was kicked out

i really hope that the kid got to meet the guys and i also hope that this
doesn't cause a rash of crazed fans jumping up on stage!!

I read all these stories on the list about people around each other
sharing BFF moments and I'm always so jealous!! They are not known at
all where I am and it's so sad! I'm always like, "yeah, Ben Folds 5 is
my favorite group" and they're like "Ben's doing what?" However, during
last period, my friends and I busted out of our joint and went to my
house. I casually turn on BFF and they ask who it is. They hear me
talking about them all the time so they listen...a couple hours later,
they both come back with blank tapes! I was like YEAH BUDDY!! I just
wanted to tell you it's the greatest feeling in the world.

Hiya there Armchairers,

First off, I have to say that "For All Of Ya'll Who Wear Fanny Packs"
has got to be the absolute COOLEST damn song I have ever heard. Not just as a
BFF song, but because it's hilarious! For those of you who have never heard
it, I recommend you try and find it... it's 'da' bomb'!!
Secondly, I've noticed alot of requests for chords to specific songs.
Oddly enough, if you try www.harmony-central.com and then follow the links to
their tablature page, they have a few BFF songs -- check it out.
Third, when is that Chapel Hill show -- I'd love to go, and where
can I get tickets?
Fourth, what's Ben's religion? I noticed he says on Hava Nagila
(from the BOWCCL single import) "Here's a song I heard alot when I was a
little kid..." which makes me wonder if he was at alot of Jewish festivities,
etc. And he also came slightly close to the right words -- he seemed to have
the pronunciation correct.

Thanks, write back to me or reply to the list!

Subject: Counting Crows "plugging" BFF and other stuff

The CC song "Monkey" that mentions BFF is not my idea of a "plug". I think
that BFF should be flattered (although it would be hard to flatter BFF,
since flattery is essentially saying they are better than they really
are!), by this mention. The lyric is purely a mood thing, it describes the
situation. There is no room for the comparison to the Spice Girls
advertising, in a TV commercial, Pepsi. Chalk and Cheese.

Re parents liking BFF. I am 22 so don't quite fit the teen criteria, but I
thought that my Dad (who listens to Opera and classical music) would
appreciate it. And he did, not all of it, and I don't know what he thought
of the lyrics but as far as the music goes.

Anyway, thats enough from me, I've just finished reading the last weeks
MAs, keep up the good work Amchairites!

Where did you hear that they were even having a concert at Georgetown?
All the tour dates I've seen haven't metioned it. Anyhow, on Dec. 13 they're
in Dublin, Ireland.

i feel like being silly and replying to the desert island question. so,
i am assuming that we've got a cd player and electricity?? not much of a
desert island, but hey...whatever floats your boat. i think that i would
want:

  1. best imitation
  2. uncle walter
  3. one angry dwarf

but jeez...only three songs??? i think that is unfair. how are you
really supposed to survive with only three songs, after having heard all
their other great songs??

off to oz...(really, i am--it's the ballet we are doing this year!)

Does anyone have or know of any music writing programs??? I've been
figuring out a bunch of BF5 tunes, and I've noticed a high demand for sheet

or would like to send me the actual program, LET ME KNOW
