How is this ok at all? I have been waiting since God-knows-when (what,
JUNE?) to see the Sessions episode last night. I have had it on my
calendar since time began, moving it over and over again. I turn it on,
and voila! Cleveland local high school sports. WHAT? Check listings...
nope, at 11 pm on Sessions, Beck and Ben Folds Five. Cleveland sucks a
dog. Then to find out they f'ed it up AGAIN and put someone else on
instead anyway -- I don't know who to be upset at -- Cleveland local PBS
pre-empting the only show I've wanted to see on TV in the last year, or
Sessions for f'ing it up again. The sad part is, I know the rest of you
were as desperately traumatized as I was. I'm going to do a little
emailing... and you?

did anyone actually see BF5 on Sessions this weekend? I taped it (because i
was still in NYC for the supper club show). When i arrived home, i ran
straight to the vcr to catch a glimpse of the fellas. Unfortunately my bliss
was greeted by ricki lee jones or somebody (who is that anyway?). Just
wondering if my PBS is f%8ked up or if the show didn't air. (Boston Channel
2) if anyone knows the deal, please email me.

ps. thanks to the bouncer at the supper club who let me sit on the side of
the stage for the 2nd half of the show (about 4 feet behind Ben!) Apperently
this table was resvd for the band should they decide to take a break. cheers
brother!!

pss.. A SHOUT OUT to Philip Lauri for a fine, fine trade!!! (it's on as we

So I came home from the Fiona Apple show...
(totally exceeded my expectations-screw her silly interviews-her songs
are good!)
and I whipped on Sessions-so happy!!!!!
They played Smoke, 1 Angry Dwarf-but I was dancing around ultra happy
when they whipped out Underground!
Did you guys notice the happy dancing fans in the background??
They closed with Brick and it was beautiful.
Then Beck came on, and he sang I Wanna Get With You(and your sister) in a
James Brown soul funk falsetto and it was amazing!! When PBS repeats
this show next Friday at 1200 (Boston market) me and my best friend are
going to stay up for it and dance around happily.(HORDE flashback-BFF,
then Beck)
WBCN announced its "X-mas rave" shows, and its going to be Ben Folds
Five, Catherine Wheel(together!!!I swoon!) and everclear at the Avalon,
which I can easily get into. Even though there may be a helluva lotta
drunken frat boys there for everclear, Im thisclose to getting my parents
to let me go.
Tickets are through Ticketbastard(i think) and go on sale Tues the
11th.17$
I gots to support my boys!(Plus, the lead singer of Catherine Wheel has a
voice that triggers my female hormones completely)
The Providence radio show, could someone post who Ben Folds Five is
playing with, where and ticket info??

**I knew this kid, Fred, hes over 6 feet tall and has dark curly hair,
who took akido in Cambridge this summer but unfortunately quit! And I
was about to ask him out because we had a conversation on Doctor Martens
and, well, hes my big crush.
- -if any armchairite knows him, or if maybe Fred is on the
armchair(hoping) please email me. I know his last name, but I dont want
to post it on the digest**
Thanks guys for dealing with my verbiage.

Well, Armchairites. ..

it is offcial. I am going to be in Texas when BFF comes to San
Francisco the end of the month. I was really looking forward to this
one, too! Oh well, I've been to three already (twice opening for
Heather Nova-which was how I discovered the band, and once on their solo
bar tour after the Heather tour ended), and there will be others. And,
I haven't seen my sister in years, so I guess it is a worthwhile
sacrafice.

Also, anyone notice that the first CD is the worst sequenced CD in the
world??? It is one of my permanent car changer CDs, which I keep on
shuffle. . .and so many of the songs, when heard on shuffle get cut off
half a second too early and stuff like that. . .someone wasn't doing
their job very well!

Hey, it's Ben

About Naked Baby Photos

Eddie Walker, Emaline and Tom & Mary are all outtakes from the Ben Folds
Five album, not the demos I may have made on 4 track or live b-sides.
They're unreleased and since I never even had a copy, they have
basically just been on master tape at the Caroline office. They
shouldn't have been cut off the album.

Bad Idea is the demo version which, in my opinion, totally smokes the
crappy movie version.

Jackson Cannery is the single version recorded after we'd been a band
for 2 months and not otherwise released as a b-side.

I don't have the list with me but I think there really aren't many
already released cuts on the whole thing... uh - "Satan", "Fanny Packs"
... uh ...live "Underground" were b-sides ... anyway - just didn't want
people to think they could get away with simply buying 15 singles from
England for hundreds of dollars and be done with it...

A note from the typist - any incorrectly spelled song titles are my
fault, not Ben's.

I was listening to Combat Rock yesterday when I realized BFF would sound
great doing "Rock The Casbah." Actually, since I've never seen them live,
if I was actually at a concert, I wouldn't care what they played, I'd be so
happy to be there. I would probably be happy to hear them cover anything,
even the Spice Girls

I watched on PBS what i considered to be a sorta held-back performance...
i can't really explain, like the boys were holding back their umph (for
lack of a better werd). i guess they didn't want another incident like
that one TV show in Australia!
 set list:

 missing the war
 smoke
 underground
 brick
 one angry dwarf

no banging of pianos or "hand me my cock-ring" or other sly foolery.
(though ben did introduce "smoke" as "smoke on the water"!)

the interview was ok. mostly the host askin him about if he liked elton
john and how long he's been writing...

it was a good show... but short. beck was SUPER entertaining!

Seems "One angry dwarf..." must be a favorite for background music on
MTV, because it popped up again, on The Real World this week. (Leave me
alone, I actually like the show this season).
Just thought I'ld share...killing time until the Phila. show tonight.

hey.
is anyone on the list going to be at the show in denver in a couple of
weeks?
if so maybe we could hook up.

also- all you westerners be on the lookout. there's yet another new
opening band coming
to a bff tour near you. my friends old pike are going to be touring out
here in the west, i'm
not sure when they're hooking up with the tour (maybe south bend?) but i
know at least they're
playing dates from texas on, so all you califonia people take notice.
old pike kicks some serious ass.

if anyone's going to be in denver, drop me a line.

i was all psyched up to see the boys on sessions last night. boy, was i
disappointed with what i saw!! first off, they had no energy whatsoever!! no
smiling, no jumping, none of their regular stage antics. the only time ben
even cracked a smile was when he noticed all those guys dancing in the back.
secondly, i was super suprised with their tracks they decided to use for the
show. very weird. my parents watched it also and were raving about it
afterwards. i disagreed. oh, and my parents are not usually fans of the boys.
they both think they are decent, but not as great as i think they are. my
mom's fave song of theirs is 'brick' , so she was very happy to see that on
there. what did everyone else think? for the people that were actually at the
taping (whenever that was...i forget), was it as dull to see it live? --jess

Well, it was a good show, but not nearly as good as when I saw them in
Danbury, CT in January 96. This time, there must have been 500 people, last
time 50! :(
Anyhoo, I wore my "Hello my name is" sticker on my cool in school shirt, and
got noticed after the show. A sweet girl approached me, and asked if I was
on the Magical Armchair. I answered that I was, but couldn't think of
anything to say at the moment. (seeing as how I had been standing for 5
straight hours, and it was 12:30 on a school night, not to mention a 75
minute drive home ahead of me) I lost her in the crowd. Well, if you are on
this list, e-mail me, we could chat about the show. Also, to anyone else who
was there: e-mail me and we can chat.

That is all for now.

Subject: my questionaire :)

HEY everyone :)

I have been wondering a few things about Ben Folds Five and I thought I
might ask, these might've been discussed before but I'm a new kid so
I....wouldn't know.

1) In the cover of "whatever and ever amen" next to the heading for the
lyrics of KATE is the word 'army'. I was just wondering what that might've
meant. It reminds me of how KISS fans call themselves the KISS ARMY.....
2) who says "ben folds is a FUCKING asshole...." (the hidden track??)
3) At livid 97 (ok, I have asked this before and i don't think ANYONE has
the faintest idea what I'm on about.....) *I* distinctly remember Ben Folds
rapping. what was that?!

I'm through. thanks to whoever can answer those q's for me :)
