Subject: Supper Club DAT, Will Start a Tree

I've received many many requests for this show. Too many to fill.
So, I'll start a tree here on the list.
First of all, many of the requests said that they would pay money
for this tape. I WILL NOT SELL ANY TAPES! I will not rip off
BFF by selling any live tapes, its just that simple. And neither
should you.

The Tree:
You email your name, email address, mailing address, medium
(DAT, cassette, etc) upon which you would like the tape, and whether
you'd like to be the person sending the blank.
I will make one DAT and three cassettes. The person who
provides the blank to me (and postage) will receive a copy of
this tape directly from DAT (digital audio tape), but will not
get the tape until each person on his/her branch copies the
tape for themselves. Each person down the line will copy the tape for
themselves, and then pass it along.

So it'll look like this....

Me (DAT to DAT or DAT to Cassette) > Person A (copies for
self and mails to) ... > Person B (copies and mails to) ... >
Person C (etc) > eventually received by "Blank and Postage
Sender"

Your email to me will read:

Header: BFF Supper Club Tree

Body:
name
email
address
medium (DAT or cassette)
will send blank or not

Hi guys,

Well, I'm very stupid, and completey forgot this was even going to be on. I
was wondering if somebody with a good copy out there would be willing to
trade for stuff. I have a growing list of audio, and some really good video.
 Inquire within.

Thanks!

Oh most definitely the boys should cover "Rock the Casbah!" Chuck
Folds, do me this favor. The next time you see your brother, jump on his
back, and give him noogies until he agrees to do the song! ;) I'm sorry,
just the thought of Ben, Darren, and Robert bouncing around on stage,
pounding out one of the coolest songs in history makes me want to track
them around, going hundreds of miles out of my way to see them play......
wait a sec, I want to do that now. Oh well, it makes me want to do other
unwise things....... wait, no, I wanted to do those before..... Well, you
get the point! ;)

ERIC

P.S. Wait, BEN actually wrote to the list? You know what time it is now,
boys and girls? That's right! JOYGASM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Subject: Dick Holster -- A conspiracy!

I was just thinking about something.

"Dick Holster -- From the Stiff Johnson recording sessions."

WHAT?! Ridiculous, right?

Now, I don't know anything about this track, but the way it's listed, it
sure sounds like a joke to me. Every single other track on the CD?
We've heard it, we know it exists, it's been done before, etc. etc.
etc... but Dick Holster? You think the guys would create some brand new
song, or maybe dig up some ancient recording, and somehow not a single
person on the entire Armchair would ever have even heard a peep about
its existence before it was mentioned on the Caroline web site?

Well... here's my theory, if Dick Holster isn't just a
screwing-around-in-the-studio outtake...

Maybe it's a secret track.

Perhaps there's something that's gonna be on this CD that we all really
want and the boys just aren't announcing it, and instead have replaced
it with this ludicrous track title. Ya know, Video Killed the Radio
Star or some similarly sought-after item. Or the disco version of Best
Imitation or Underground with the groovy breakdown at the end. Who
knows? All I'm sayin' is... maybe there's more to this dick holster
than meets the eye. :)

Just a thought... wouldn't that be cool if this was the case? I
certainly think so... :)

Anyways. I'm out.

Oh, actually, one more tidbit: has anyone heard any mention of the tune
"Never Leaving Silver Street", which was recorded as a demo but never
released? I'd love to see that pop up as a b-side or on a new album or
something... excellent song.

Well, mull that whole conspiracy theory over, and tell me whatcha think.
Bye.

Since I was one of the initial people bitching about the track list, I
feel I should explain myself. Nobody (certainly not me, but I think
nobody) has said that we don't want the stuff we have on BOOTLEG to be
on the album... those, my friend, are precisely the songs we DO want on
there. Songs like Kalamazoo, Guilty, Protection, Rocky, Video Killed
The Radio Star... stuff that you can't already get on CD. What we were
complaining about was that there are 4 tracks on there which are already
available as B-Sides to legitimately released singles - Bad Idea (demo),
Underground (live), Satan Is My Master (live), and Fanny Packs. We want
you to get MORE unreleased stuff! Anyways, just so you know --
bootlegs, if you look for them, are extremely easy to find. Just email
someone who's mentioned a particular bootleg, or search the web for
peoples' boot lists, and set up a trade of some sort... many people will
willingly trade 2 blank tapes for one bootleg tape or something similar
if you have nothing to trade with them...

Anyways. that is all.

Subject: dreams of bff...sessions tape?

hi all,
well, i had an interesting dream about the boys last night. i was at a
show with, for some reason, my old orchestra class all my friends who
dislike bf5. i looked around and saw the same poster that hung on a
counter at the one show i've been to hanging on a wall in my dream. i
was like, wow, i've gotta get it.....but when i walked over, i looked up
and the wall had become humongous, and the poster was like 200ftup
there, totally unobtainable.....then i was walking through these halls,
and all over the place there were lifesize cardboard cutouts of the guys
surfing and riding skateboards, but they looked all weird and distorted.
THEN, i was in my seat, and ben was onstage all alone singing Missing
the war, with a crappy little keyboard, and there were two people in
huge bunny suits in the background getting married, like it was a little
story that went along with the song; the stage was all flowery to go
along w/ this theme. a friend of mine was randomly shouting, "Ooh baby!
Sex appeal!" i knew robert and darren were supposed to make some sort of
grand entrance, but i woke up before this happened...
ah, by the way.....sessions apparently doesn't exist anymore in FL; i
came to this conclusion after hyperventilation (sp?) sat. when it wasn't
listed in the paper.
would anyone want to trade w/ me for a live audio tape i have of them?
i'd buy you the vhs tape. i know it's not much, but hey...you can have
my soul too! anyhow, thanks for reading this. bye!

Hey my friends,
Sessions @ West 54th was really nice.
I must say I have a found a new respect for "Smoke". I never knew Ben
used a blowy keyboard thing. (I dug my sister's old one out of her
closet and it's called a MelodiHorn; just always thought it was one of
those cheesy things you had if you were alive in the '70's-'80's) And
the way he did that thing with the piano strings was great.
After Robert did his "And now it's been 10 years..." part (which was
beautifully done) he gave a big sniffle into the mic. Talk about sexy
;)
The best thing was today my crush comes up to me with a video and tells
me, "I don't know if you like Beck, but I think you'll like the first
band." He taped "Sessions" for me :)

Take care.
Janet.

Saw Sessions. Enjoyed it. Yeah, it was short and the guys wrangling for
spots where they'd get on camera in the background were annoying but I
thought the band was great. They were a little subdued but I don't think
the music suffered at all.

I just finished watching BFF on Sessions...incredible! I'd never seen
them live before, and was completely blown away. And I taped it, so
anyone who wants a copy e-mail me privately, and we'll set something up.

The set list (I don't think this is the exact order):
1. "Missing the War"
2. "One Angry Dwarf"
3. "Smoke" (Ben referred to it as 'Smoke on the Water')
4. "Underground"
5. "Brick"
- - And then a half-hour of beck, in all his funkiness
There's also a brief interview with Ben...

For those of you who hate details, you might want to skip this:
Does anyone know why 'Smoke' was called 'Smoke on the Water'? Perhaps
this session was recorded before the second album was released, and the
title was tentative. This would explain why everyone was dancing and
singing along to 'Underground', and not 'One Angry Dwarf'.

To anyone else who saw the session:
Did anyone notice a few quick fast forwards/rewinds and freeze frames, or
did my local station just screw up? It doesn't really detract from the
show, but I was just curious...

Subject: Something to Believe In

For everyone who expressed dissatisfaction about the exclusion of "Video
Killed the Radio Star" from the upcoming Naked Baby Photos, I asked someone
intimately involved in the album why it was left off and the reason made a
lot of sense. The fear was that Caroline might try to push the song as a
first single trying to capitalize on the 1980's current trendiness (e.g.
ska bands covering one-hit wonders like "Take On Me" and "Come On Eileen")
and that is not something the band wants to be known for. When told this, I
immediately agreed that keeping it off the album was a good idea even
though it would be cool to have it on disc. Ethan
