No Ben Folds Five Content!
I FINALLY FINALLY put down the money and bought OK Computer, its a
masterpiece!
Im listening to this album through my headphones.When year end issues
come out, how much you want to bet this album will be #1??Im guessing-
Spin-artist of the year-Puff Daddy
Band of the year-Radiohead
Album of the year-OK Computer(if they can handle this epic!)-will waea be
in there?
Yet, everyones a critic!;)
Catherine Wheel-Rob Dickinson(!) what a voice!
Today's thoughts about BFF from an OK Computer perspective:
I think that the strings at the HORDE festival really added to the sonic
layers of BFF. And if Im a junior now, a brand spanking new album will
come out by the end of my senior year?? Maybe a huge tour by October of
1999??The guys deserve a break from touring. It sounds so emotionally
draining-Im amazed by the different types of music that Ben can go
through.I wonder if Brick will get HUGE-if MTV is all over it, it could,
but who knows?I dont have cable so I really cant tell!!If Brick gets
huge, theyll end up pimping waea forever, huh?I want to see them dive
into new sonic territories-Ben Folds Five mixing with Portishead??-to
imagine that!

To the Magical Armchair and friends -
Rember me from the Raliegh show!, Well I went to the Richmond show last
night, it was my fourth. While standing in line to get it, Trey came out
to the bus (which strangly was parked out in front) I called over, he
remebered me from Raliegh after I jogged his memory a bit. We talked about
the tour and how they were just up in MA, my home state. He said it was
alot of travelling but they enjoyed it. We also talked about that college
show they did for two hundred people. Saying they didn't quite know what to
expect, but that they were getting paid alot of money. He said the guys
enjoy playing for smaller audiences sometimes and it was alot of fun. A
little change of pace. Darren came out of the bus too for a bit and I love
it, no one in the whole line reconized him. I introduced myself and just
wished a good show. And for all that want to know, after NBP, they will
be working on a new album of all originals, Ben said that he already has
some songs in the works and they hope to have it out by June or so.
I didn't tape the show, but I know someone who did. I will have a DAT
quality recording as soon as he copies it for me, he's not a member of the
armchair so I guess Ill be distributing. I will tell you all when I get it
so please don't request it yet. The show was amazing. Ben was a little off
for the first few songs though, he said he was drunk, which may have been
true, but who knows. After about four songs he picked up incredibly,
playing with his feet, fists, and various other parts of his body. The
famous piano stool toss and other antics were all there. It was the same
set list as Raliegh except they added UNCLE WALTER!!! and She don't use
jelly. And in the middle of the second encore, song for the dumped,
darren pulled out the cable on the bass and started some funky fuzz beats to
start a "fanny packesque" preformance. They jammed hard on that last one.
After the show I got kicked off the balcony pretty quick, but I noticed
doug int he corner and asked him if it would be cool If I could meet the
guys and have them sign my poster which I had inconspicuously tore off the
wall. He said sure, and took me upstairs to the backstage area where my
friend and I waited for Ben and the guys to come out. Darren came out
first. I just told him good show, I had seen him inside before the show,
he watched Venus Fly Trap girls (which were not that good) from where I was
standing along with the lead singer to Travis (which freakin' rocked), so
we talked a little then. Afterwards Ben came out, He said they were
getting out pretty quick, they are doing the show tonight in Chapel Hill,
then they get four days off to chill at home. I asked about Naked Baby
Photos (new album) he said all the live tracks are board recordings and
that they reocrd every concert just incase they want to review it and see if
it sucked or not. So really most people dont have copies of these songs
already. The B-Sides maybe but not the live tracks. Like I said he is also
writign for a new album due maybe around June.
I asked why he never played uncle walter in concert and he said they
were listening to some HORDE tapes and though it sounded terrible so they
just stopped playing it. they brought it back because so many fans wanted to
hear it, he said it may be making a comeback, and its sounding better (I
thought it was great). He was also saying he wanted to hook up with
Squirrel Nut Zippers sometime, possibly on the Euro leg coming up next
month. He said they are great friends with alot of tallent.
Well at that point i needed to go to catch a bus. We had been hanging
and talking to ben for about 20 minutes and still waiting for Robert, I
asked Ben where he was and he said that he probobly already went to the bus.
I thanked him and doug for everthign and we went downstairs.
Still there was the tour bus, with a bunch of friends of the badn and
fans outside. I asked if they had seen robert, one of the guys I reconized
from the private party said he was on the bus and I should knock (jokinngly)
well I did it anyway, and lo and behold robert comes to the door. "What
the f**k" was his response. But then broke a smile and started signing
things and talking.
It was a great show and alot of fun. I have my poster on the wall right
now with all the guys signatures on it. Its definetly cool. If anyone has
Trey's email address I would love to get it, I forgot to ask him for it,
and he is really cool to talk to. Talk to you all soon.
