WHY NO ARMCHAIRS?
There were no Magical Armchair digests sent on Thursday or Friday,
Nov. 13 and 14 (Wednesday and Thursday evenings in the Americas) because
of a problem associated with an upgrade to the mail handler at
il.fontys.nl. As a result, anything sent since Wednesday afternoon
sometime probably didn't get through. If you posted something and don't
see it in this issue, try resending it. If you tried to unsubscribe but
you're still getting this, try again.

EVERYBODY HATES RAYMOND
The multiple copies of issue #462 that have appeared in recent
digests have come from one particular user who may
or may not know what he is doing. I have tried contacting him several
times (it's happened before) but never received a response, so he has
been removed from the list. Thanks everyone for being patient and for
not posting complaints to the list.

Hi everyone,
Just a short note about Sunday's show at the Electric Factory. Of course,
as always, Ben and Company were great. My personal favorites were Missing
the War, Best Imitation of Myself (it was nice to hear this again-I hadn't
heard it live since they played the Khyber Pass, which Robert mentioned), Dr.
Pyser, Underground and She Don't Use Jelly.
By the way, after mentioning Paul Simon, Ben proceeded to do a little
impromptu "Mother and Child Reunion" and later a bit of "Loves me Like a
Rock." I'm sure Paul would have been proud.
As for the openers, Venus Flytrap Girls were not unlistenable (not much of
a compliment, I know), but I thought Travis was very good. In fact, I went
out and bought their CD the next day and have been listening to it ever
since. They really captured the crowd, and seemed genuinely appreciative of
the response they got. I would recommend checking out this disc (called Good
Feeling).
Well, Joanne will probably be posting her thoughts on the show and we just
got tickets to the DC date, so I'll probably talk to you then.

                                                                           Q.

Hi Julie,
This is how the beginning of Underground goes, as far as who sings what....
Darren: I was never cool in school, I'm sure you don't remember me
Robert: And now it's been 10 years, I'm still wondering who to be
Ben: And I love to mix in circles, cliques and social cotteries (spelling?),
that's me
Darren: Hand me my nose ring
Robert: Show me the mosh pit
etc, etc....
Also, the new CD is Naked Baby Pictures, coming out (I think) in January
98, with with a mix of unreleased studio tracks and live tracks. I think
Frank Maynard's web site has a list of the songs (I know I saw it somewhere,
I'm not sure if it was Frank's page or the official site).

                                                                           Q.

I heard the mention of an instrumental album? Right on... that would be
amazing... if I heard right, anyone know what name it is gonna be released
under? Maybe I'm dumb... anyway, inform you, if you know, pretty please!

To the person who suggested "Everybody Knows" as a cover: "Everybody Knows"
is actually a Leonard Cohen song, and you can hear Cohen's original version
to eerie effect in the Atom Egoyan film "Exotica".
A great cover, which Ben would/could probably do very tongue-in-cheek, is
Prince's piano-only epic "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore".
The intimate setting of "Sessions" was perfect for Ben's mellower stuff --
Ben doesn't always have to throw his chair and/or his bum around to be
brilliant. I love Beck, but I thought his extended dance remix of "Where
It's At" in the cramped "Sessions" setting was self-indugent and a little
boring -- Thank God Jane's Addiction was playing "Jane Says" on SNL at the
exact same time. Click.
