Does anybody know any information on the FREE show in Dallas at the Stork
Room? I called the radio station, and they only knew that it was an early
show (she said 6:00) and there are no advanced tickets. I'm from Austin,
and am not sure if I want to drive if I don't know anything about it. I've
never even heard of the club. Any info would help.

ok, this whole ben folds being gay thing...

uum, anyways i definitely know what its like to find out that
sombody whos influenced you so much is gay, especially if youre not...but
i think its pretty obvious that we should try to not worry about ben's sex
life cuz it doesnt matter to his music or his playing really. and i dunno
if thats any of our business anyway...i mean, if he jumps out of the
closet and says hes flamingly gay, then i guess it could be our business,
but a lot of people like to keep that stuff secret because society is not
as openminded to being gay as it should be..i mean..what people do in bed
with their partners is their business alone...at least, thats how i see
it. this is a really touchy subject and it doesnt have a whole lot to dow
ith the MUSIC so thats all im going to say about it :> if he is gay, so
what? i repeat i can definiatly relate to people who might be shocked to
find somthing like that out about sombody, but when it comes to what we
actually know & love ben for, it doesnt matter.

if that magazine thing is even true anyway..what the hell was
ben doing in GUITAR player magazine:) ???

God! My last post was to tell the list the story of how I proposed to
my fiance in front of Ben, Darren and Robert.

Anyway, 3 points:

1) The El Rey show isn't the only LA Area show. I just bought tickets
for a show at Club Caprice in Redondo Beach. They still had tickets
available as of this Sunday.

2) How about all interested meet for an early dinner at Mel's diner on
Sunset before the El Rey show? Email me at heyadam@hotmail.com and if I
get enough responses, our rendezvous will be official.

3) The guy--I think Chris?--who lost his ride for the show but could get
to Pasadena should email me. I can arrange safe passage.

Eagerly awaiting November 29th and 30th!

Hi all
A funny thing happened to me todasy (well, it wasn't that funny but that's my wacked sense of humour for you.)
I was in my Chemistry class and the teacher was babbling on about something I still don't understand. Then he wrote something up about Boron Fluoride or something, which has the formula BF3 (3 in subscript). So that was pretty cool. I was laughing and stuff because it seemed more appropriate than BF5 given there are only 3 of them) and my friends thought I was making a lame joke (in true Claire style) about Roald Dahl's The BFG. I had to explain but THEY DIDN'T UNDERSTAND!! It's so frustrating. Anyway.... I wonder if BF5 is a possible covalent compound.......

please email me off the list.

Keeping along the dicussion line of Karaoke buttons. . .

One day I was listening to the WAEA CD at work and had my headphones
plugged into my 'puter. . .well to make a long story short, I had a loose wire
in the headphones somewhere or I didn't have it plugged in all the way and
due to this I got the piano sounds of Kate only. No voice. It was really
weird. The song is quite different to listen to when there is no Ben.

So the point is this: Fiddle with the jack to your headphones and maybe,
JUST MAYBE, you can produce the effect of a Karaoke button the way I
did. Or sit at the keys and play the song yourself. OR, have Ben come to
your house and play the piano for you! Hey, now there's a PLAN!

just a question - what is the band's official stance on bootlegging? i
know that i say at least one person at the philly show i went to last
sunday, and they were pretty obvious about it. the security was pretty
cool about it - they didn't even pat me down. i prolly could have brought
my recording studio in and they wouldn't care... i think it's cool when
bands let oyu boot, except wher greedy pigs go trying to sell them. so the
question is - tdoes the band mind?

what i don't understand is why a station like y100 would play "brick," a
"somber dirge," in the words of a friend of mine, and not an uppity song
like "kate." personally i'd rather hear kate on the radio, but that's
prolly just because brick is my favourite song on the album.
speaking of kate, have any of you noticed that a lot of ben's song names
have person names in them? ... julianne, alice childress, uncle walter,
kate, steven's last night... tom and mary...

of movies, etc.

Its called High Bias (by Dog Ear Music)

I found this in the digest:

- -Ben Folds Five have announced two new records. "Naked Baby Photos" is a
collection of B-sdies and rarities, that will be out on January 13. After
that album, they will do an album with the string quartet that they played
with at HORDE.

Two new records?? Does anybody know when the second is comming out

Gotta love bands with great productive spirit

I saw yesterday on the Siren music future releases Brick imports.
I couldn't tell if it will be a two disc thing, like Kate, Underground,
and Battle, but the songs were Brick, Smoke, a ska remix of Kate, and
Mitchell Lane. The release date is Dec. 8.

okay, just saw the brick video last night on 12 angry viewers. i thought
that the video was magnificent. the best part (besides how darn cute those
boys looked) was when the camera zoomed in on her shoes...it says so much
because one of her feet is curled around the leg of the chair, indicating
nervousness and maybe? immaturity. i thought that most of the people were
nice...the girl talking about the cracking voices pissed me off and then
the other girl who pretty much called ben a jerk because she thought the
song was about his inability to be in relationships...

i was telling someone about how i love ben folds five, and he said that
it's so weird because nobody's heard of ben folds five, but yet they "have
a cult-like following." i thought that was a pretty good quote there. what
else? looking very very much forward to ben folds five on wednesday in
lawrence. i will be wearing a nametag with the name fred jones. oh, and
did anyone in the kc area notice in the pitch that they had a big old
story about travis and then at the bottom it said "travis plays at the
granada on wednesday night sandwiched between ______ and ben folds five"
or something like that. i was upset. but alas... i'm pretty sure that's
all i have to say for now.

Rashida here, former list member in Florida (near Tampa Bay) as Aneehall73,

my house. It's a shame i don't drink or that would have soooo many much more
benefits. Anyway, just wanted to send a note out to see if i have missed any
postings about possible gettin-togethers prior to and after the show. I
figure i can have one at my place if people are interested. Just lemme know.

Just a couple things.

1. I found out today I have special BFF powers. I was going to Kohl's
(Dept. Store), but I had to sit in the parking lot and listen to Fair on
the radio before I could go in. When I got in the store, "Can't Find My
Way Home" was on the Muzak, and I started thinking that I would love to
hear BFF cover that song. Then the next song to come on the Muzak was
"Brick." I was amazed...

2. Everyone keeps asking what that Mouth Organ thing Ben plays on Smoke
is. Well, it's officially called a Melodica. However, for anyone who
was in the Philadelphia area during the 80's, we all know it's a
"Hooter". Ok, get your minds out of the gutter. The Hooters were
(still are, I think) a legendary local band around here. The Melodica
played a prominent role in their music, and the "Hooter" is just a
nickname the band came up with for the instrument, which led to the
band's name. Was I the only one who was disappointed that the boyds
didn't play "And We Danced" at the Electric Factory.

...and I Love Travis.

Maria
