I've been catching up on my armchairs tonight when I noticed something. . .
Our good friend Raymond is still up to his old tricks, now more than ever.
Is it intentional or just mere coincidence that Digest #666 consisted
solely of MAD #462?
Maybe Raymond is satan after all. . . .
just a thought. . .
Can't wait for them Naked Baby Photos and maybe even the chance to see Ben
and the Boys before I leave for college!
Talk to y'all later,

Hey again!
Ya know, for being on the Armchair for about 6 months now, I'm still
learning how to function as an active member. I still have to learn not to
post a response to an article that was done more than three issues ago. I
should have read what else was in my mailbox before making the 500th
observation between the mark of the beast and "Everybody loves" Raymond.
Repetition sucks. Especially when you're responsible! :-)
So, saying that, I checked everything else before I did my next post.
I was reading Hanna's post to armchair #668. It's cool to know that Ben
likes the band Belle and Sebastian -- a truly wonderful band from across
the pond. The following description is found in The Album Network's Retail
Tuneup #46 (A wonderful series of CDs and worth all the hours of searching
used CD bins for 'em).
"Belle and Sebastian is a 7-piece band from Scotland. With their sights
set steadily on leisure, the group's sound supports and ever-growing fan
base of people who are into literature, showers, the internet (as long as a
computer is close at hand) and cushions. 'Like Dylan In the Movies' has
been tapped by specialty shows as the single from Belle and Sebastian's
second album 'If You're Feeling Sinister.'"
"Dylan" is a great piece of rolling melody rock that's as smooth as eggnog
but not at all as repulsive. Their sound is very similar to
post-Replacements Paul Westerburg and Eric Matthews. True story -- I played
it in my car this afternoon. I was singing very loudly, and I think people
were staring at me! :-)I haven't listened to the rest of the album (I only
have the single) but if it's at all like "Dylan", it sounds like acoustic
perfection.
Again, the album is "If You're Feeling Sinister" on the Enclave label. The
cover is a red filtered photograph of a woman seriously pondering something
with a copy of Franz Kafka's "The Trial" lying beside her on a mattress.
That's all for now . . . .

thanks for all the millions of e-mails i got about the up-coming BFF tour
for naked Baby photos. it made me feel special and important for ONCE here
on this list (amongst all you Best-friends-of-ben and people who work at
real radio stations and get free promos....)
ANYWAY, here's what i read:
PHOTO ALBUM A PICTURE-PERFECT INSPIRATION
The piano pounding Ben Folds Five had a collection of non-LP material
titled "Naked baby Photos" to be released by the indie label Caroline in
mid-January.
Folds says the title was inspired by his manager showing him photos of his
new baby boy. The album features live recordings (including a cover of
Built to Spill's "Twin Falls"), as well as tracks previsly availible as
import B-sides. One glaring omission is the Five's cover of the Buggles'
"Video Killed the Radio Star," but Folds is optimistic that the track will
eventually be released. THE SINGER SAID THAT THE BAND WILL DO A 12-CITY
TOUR IN FEBRUARY, AND CLEVELAND IS ON THE LIST. THE GROUP WILL APPEAR ON
DAVID LETTERMAN'S SHOW SOMETIME EARLY NEXT MONTH. (caps mine)
this appeared in the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Friday! magazine, Friday Nov.
21 as part of the Alternative Press music blurbs.

Here is a review of their new album, "If You're Feeling Sinister"
It has been described as the best Folk-Pop album of the 90's by CMJ
magazine, and we all know how dead on CMJ was with Ben Folds Five.
The band has maybe 9 members.
They are very reminiscent of Nick Drake, 70's folk sensation from
England, compared to Jim Morrison before his tragic death.
The songs are very melodic, while remaining incredibly complex.
The songs are great, I especially love the title track, If You're Feeling
Sinister.
They also have another album on Jeepster Records that is incredibly hard
to find stateside called 'Tigermilk' and two EP's called 3,6,9 seconds of
Light and Lazy Line Painter Jane that can be found at any good indie
store.
Well that is all I can say. It is hard to describe, it just sheer
soothing folk-pop. Brilliance, pure brilliance.
Sorry I can't offer more.

ALL AUSSIES LISTEN UP!!!
Triple J radio, the all-Australian station chiefly responsible for BF5's
popularity in this country (and don't we love 'em for it - thanks J's!!)
is currently holding its HOTTEST 100 song-of-the-year voting
competition. I'm sure you all know this, cos I'm sure you're all groovy
J-ers.
I guess I don't have to tell you ALL to VOTE FOR 1AD, as it's the only
BF5 song on the list to choose from. Go to the Triple J website to cast
your vote for the best band on the planet, at
http://www.abc.net.au/triplej. (I sheepishly admit that it's probably
not the best song to be released this year, but as if I'm not going to
vote for it!! Come on!)
However, being divided on the topic of whether or not BF5 should become
mega-famous or not, I will now add: ignore what I just said; we don't
want EVERYBODY liking them. God I'm schizophrenic. (and so am I)
Cheers,
Petra
PS: thanks Matt for the public praise!
PPS: poor Arnulf! His apology for all the space he took up on the
armchair took up a whole digest to itself! haha, poor guy, just can't
win...
DARREN JESSEE APPRECIATION PAGE CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!!!! COMING
SOON!!!! (we know you're all excited, but you'll just HAVE to wait till
the future gets here, ok?)

I know someone out there knows the details of Darren's drum set-up cos
they wrote it on the armchair a while ago (Uncle Walter got really

Can this person, or ANYONE, I'm begging you all, PLEASE write to me with
the details of the D-man's set up. I would be most incredibly awfully
horribly grateful.

Hi Armchairites!
Okay, I hate to be a moocher, but I have a huge favor to ask. I really
would love to have some bootlegs, but have nothing to offer in return.
However, my birthday is on Thursday, and since I can't go see the boys in
my hometown (Charlotte) on Friday, I am begging any kind generous soul on
the Armchair to give me bootlegs. Heck, I'll send you tons of blank tapes
if you want!
So please e-mail me if you want to help a poor girl get a bootleg
collection started!!! THANKS!!
Ginger :)
ps--thanks for giving me my first tape, Sonny!
