Maybe it's me, again, Tidal Wave, but I don't remember saying anything
unpopular about Soundgarden. In fact, I have all of their stuff --
although I don't listen to it much anymore (and I don't just mean the
"commercial" stuff). The gist of my comment was that the big corporate
machine known as MTV only gives respect to those who bring them the most
viewership and in turn, dollars. Soundgarden at their height helped
provide those dollars, and current-flavor-of-the-month Chumbawamba is doing
that now (although next month, MTV will quietly discard them into the
"where are they now file?"). Until Ben Folds Five brings in that same
revenue, you can bet your ass that they will be cut-off for some insipid
conversation from a vj.

Sorry about the mostly non-BFF junk, but I despise it when somebody misses
the point and then accuses me of putting something down. Now, if you're
offended about my words on MTV, then you have a legitimate gripe...

Lance

Thats a low blow if you ask me, being a big Soundgarden fan and
all. Soundgarden worked their collective ass off to achieve the
popularity they eventually gained at the end of their career, and their
sound did change...

This is in response to the post Dave-o wrote very poorly in issue #674.
I resent this post very much. I am a young fan of BF5, and I'm sure a lot of
other people on the Armchair are as well. Not all of the teenage girl fans of
BF5 hear them on the radio or see them on MTV and then have erotic dreams
about Ben, Robert or Darren! Personally, I found out about them the first
time I heard Underground, which was when it first came out. Do NOT stereotype
young fans...just because they're not as old as you doesn't mean they don't
have the same love of Ben Folds Five as you.

hi helmet heads,

IT HAPPENED TO ME!

Well, take into account this was in Exeter, england, where only the elite
few have heard of BFF, BUT, i was walking through the shopping centre, and,
they were piping tinny crappy muzak through the speakers, like Wham, and
other excellent 'classics' when suddenly.... i stop still... i hear, 'ahh,
ahh-ahhh, Darren's girlfriend...' YES! It was 'Where's Summer B?'!!!!! I
squeal - *squeal* - (loudly) - 'OHMYGODIT'SBENFOLDSFIVE', start dancing
around, and get odd looks from passers-by... i stayed to see if Julianne
would come on, but alas, it was only one moment of brilliance... they
lapsed into Take That...

how did this happen?? how COOL is that? Anyway, that totally made my week
(my life is that empty!).

love & blue smarties,

@nna

:::: nobody calls me on the phone and i am all alone ::::

PS: thanks to people who mailed me re: BF3!

Just like to point out that Chumbawamba *are* the same band that were
straight-ahead ANARCHO PUNK ROCK a while ago. In a report on MTV Europe
News they were described as "the band who a few years back poured red paint
over The Clash for selling out and signing to a major label are back with
their new single on their new label EMI". I couldn't help but laugh

Sorry if my first ever post was nothing to do with BFF but there you go.

You say you're so sorry you're stressed out
I don't mind you being depressed now
I mean i'll try to understand

The end is near folks. Sonn we won't ba able to see Ben, Darren and
Robert play their litle hearts out in small clubs. We won't get to
stand at the foot of the stage and get them to play songs for us. I've
seen the future and it's called overkill.
"What is Courtney babbling about?" you ask yourself. Well I am
uber-distressed about our folding five for many reasons. Last night I
was listening to the radio and it was mentioned the "Brick" was a 'Buzz
Cut.' This is not a bad thing. I love that they get exposure. It's just
what the DJ said made me want to drive down to the station and ram a
sharp spike through his head. He prognosticated that Brick would be
their big hit (as it seems to be so already). This is fine too. THEN he
really pissed me off. He said it would but BFF on the map in the same
way that "The Freshmen" did for the Verve Pipe. Okay, no.
You better believe I was one bitter bitch after hearing that.
So my advice...don't call KROQ and innundate them with requests for it.
It's bad enough that I heard it being piped out of the loud speaker at
University Village last night on my way home from class (for those of
you who don't go to USC, the UV is a nappy little ghetto strip mall
thingy across the street from our campus). Let people find out about BFF
for themselves...don't leave it up to commercial radio.
That way they won't be playing in huge arenas to a bunch of screaming
young'uns who are all there just to hear Brick.

enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself...it's later than you think.
