I am posting about something that has caught my attention and changed my
complete overview in the whole under 18 concert going experience. It took a
crane to shove that brick out of my wall, but Steve did it!!! He found the
best way to stop the insanity on this armchair and turned me pro tenni
bopper!!! I am very happy to say that Steve's rules must have had some effect
on all concert goers and should be published nationwide for everyone to read
and be curteous by!!

OKAY I HAVE HAD IT UP TO HERE AND HERE ARE MY BIGGEST GRIPES FOR THE WEEK!!!

One you should never ever ever send a chain letter to the armchair. If you
think that your indolence and ability to lacidazical were not enough that you
JUST HAD TO send that goddamned stupid chain letter to the armchair. Either
that or you were doing it just to get a rise out of me!!!!

And for the second gripe....

If i remeber correctly a while back we were having problems with people
sending full color text articles, pics, sounds and other goodies...that were
decoded and very lengthy in the armchair.

IF YOU JUST THINK (ie just having a hunch about something) THAT SOMETHING IS
GOING TO WORK...DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU HAVE TO ENDANGER YOU POPULARITY ON THE
ARMACHAIR BY GOING AND SENDING GARBAGE THAT WE DON'T NEED.

I have been shown the error of my ways by tons of MA'ers. In short, I freaked and made a big mistake. As I have said to all the people that I have PERSONALLY mailed regarding this incident, if I have a problem with something someone says or have an opinion that is not relevant, nor informative, I shall only mail that person PERSONALLY and not involve the MA at all. It is really a guideline we should all seriously follow. I bet that if we did that, that the MA would become it's fantastic BFF-loving self again!
Perhaps a New Year's Resolution for us all...?
I agree that the MA is getting filled with tripe and I am more than willing to do my share in cleaning it up. I love the band and enjoy getting info and stories regarding them. Let's keep it fun!

My apologies...

Where did this Fear Of Pop rumour start? Was it in an interview?
Because I remember thinking when I read it that it was just a little
joke by one of them..... Well, y'know, correct me if I'm wrong...

And another nameless person wrote:
> singing off-key, what have you. you see, smoking greatly annoys me,

Was it just Manchester, or have audiences everywhere taken "Smoke" as
the cue to light up????

Oo-er. Now you've got me thinking. I'm sure it was Uncle Walter and
SFTD that got played in the encore, but now you've said that they
didn't play UW, I'm starting to wonder if they did or not. Now you
mention it, I can't exactly remember hearing it. I really should pay
a lot more attention at gigs. Maybe next time I should take a
noteboook or something. But, I'm gonna stick my neck out and say they
DID play Uncle Walter. You're right that they didn't play Alice
Childress.
As for the nametags thing, I was thinking about it, but
then thought that no-one else would and I'd end up looking a bit
daft, just me and my nametag.

Dave wrote:

Oh, cool, I'm not going mad! Cheers Dave!

And if any other Americans are confused as to what a "spotter" is,
it's someone who can come up with the minute details about things, or
just be really anally retentive (as in "trainspotter"). Anyway, I
don't consider myself a "spotter", I'm "informed". Anyone who had the
joy (and yes, for all it's troubles, I do consider it a joy) of being
on the Magical Armchair would know all about The Ultimate Sacrifice
or She Don't Use Jelly.

Subject: Upright Piano on Brick/Ballads

Has anyone else heard Ben's comments on the upright vs. grand piano thing
on Brick on the ConnecteD thing? At first, I thought he was joking (since
RObert plays an upright bass) but then realized he was talking about the
thinner, slightly tinnier sound of the upright piano that lends sadness to
the song.
Someone a few armchairs ago also wondered why the sound didn't
sound so clear on the radio- maybe that's it. But after hearing Ben talk
about it, I think it makes sense. There's a certain "toy piano" quality
some uprights have (not tinkly, but less depth than a grand) that makes a
song about an innocence-losing moment like Brick more poignant.

Just some thoughts-

But I do believe Bad Idea is
played in that Cats and Dogs movie, when they're running around or
something.

The word from Chuck Folds:
Ben wrote "Bad Idea" to coincide EXACTLY with that scene in the movie.
In fact, they even recorded it with that footage from the movie playing,
with SMPTE code to make sure it would line up. The music starts when she
enters the room, uses its frantic pace to mirror her character "running
around," and then ends as she leaves the room. That's why "Bad Idea" is
only a minute and a half... that's how long the scene was.

The only similarity is that in the chorus of Jet, members of Wings yell,
"Jet", much like our boys yelling, "Kate", during the chorus of Kate.
Yet, none of them yell, "Marcus", during the chorus of anything @ all.
I'm very disappointed. Oh music world, why do you torment me so?

BTW, I want to challenge this list to award the Most Humorous Helmet
Head Award, for the funniest guy/gal/goober/goat/gremlin on the Magical

people can vote, too). Personally, I'd have to say the leaders in the
polls thus far are Eric Patton & Anne Lyons. They crack me up more
w/every post. (+ they occasionally quote me:-).) That Carrie
Shanafelt, on the other hand...does anybody ever know what the hell

Subject: It's a shame

In #694, the subject of Ben and Kate came up, and I have to
admit I too wondered why more wasn't said about it. But for
whatever reasons, I didn't want to ask. So, I was glad
(kind of) to hear the truth, but it is an awful shame to
see it not work out so well.

To greener pastures, the first time I heard BFF I was in my
car, and I was driving home from college. It was
Underground, and my mouth was all gaping open. I couldn't
stop laughing. I couldn't ever remember the name of the
band, but my roommate worked at a record store and gave me
a promo. Then we went to see them in Springfield, MO. It
was awesome - a complete dive.

And I would take Darren to the prom if I knew the prom
wasn't a lame-ass excuse for bad dancing and spit-swapping.

Ahem.

Although it is nice to be offered free porn,
a credit card, poems, or bootlegs of Korn,

Someone wrote:

We may have covered this before, but I'll synopsize a few thoughts.

1. It's a good song to work on the mix in the monitors and speakers. You
introduce elements one at a time, much like a soundcheck-in order: Piano,
Ben's Vocal, Drums, Backing Vocals, Bass, Full Drums, Full Fuzz Bass
Effects.

2. I think it's a hell of a way to get the crowd's attention,
particularly new showgoers. The second time I saw BFF, they opened with
it, and WAEA had only been out two weeks, so everyone listened really
closely. By the time they got to the last verse, everyone was kind of
nodding along, getting into the vibe, and the vocals in the last chorus
just sent CHILLS through the crowd. The guy next to me turned to a friend
and said, "Damn- they're MUCH BETTER than you said, I didn;t believe you
before!"

>I also think the placement of BOXING in the encore set at recent shows is
>strange and out of place as well does any one else agree???
That's a reward for the band and the crowd. usually people who've come to
hear song x or song y have split after the encore break. Those who remain
and are still standing and clapping deserve a rarer gem from an album like
Boxing (or the time I heard Evaporated-Aiee!). At the sametime, the band
knows who the hardcore people are, and they feel like they can share
something extra. While pre-encore bailouts are less common at BFF shows
than most, I think you'll find this to be a regular encore philosophy for
many performers.

Every couple nights or so you know you pop into my dreams...
