Hey all ~
I know some of you are dying to see our boys in New York, and I found the
venue on the official site. They're going to be at the Hammerstein Ballroom on
February 20th (which IS an all-ages venue) and I have a strange feeling it's
going to be part of the Live at the 10 Spot series on MTV. Hey, think about it
- - all of the MTV shows are at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Friday nights. Boy,
MTV sure loves Ben Folds Five. But, wait...how come there was such a crappy
interview given on MTV Live? Hmm...

What do you guys think about this? I mean, you turn on the radio, and you
hear advertisements concerning the new album; you turn on Letterman, SNL (soon
enough), MTV, VH1, ect. and there are "our boys"...it is a weird feeling
indeed....Its like being proud and possesive at the same time...A mixture of,
"Alright!" and "Hey, I've loved 'em for years..."
Its strange...what if their popularity grows and grows and we have on our
hands "the next Beatles"...imagine millions of fans, across the globe, with
BF5 paraphenilia, screaming and crying in masses with Darren buttons and giant
pin-ups...its a scary thought.
I think about this a lot...anyway, just wanted to post this b/c I know many of
you have enteratined the same thoughts of said craze...

Subject: Why no Boston?

Hello all--

I'm not trying to complain or anything, but I'm just voicing a question
about the February tour dates. Does anyone know why BFF is *not* playing
Boston in this mini-tour? Yes, I know they've been there a couple times
very recently, but I would think that Boston, with its many clubs and large
student population, would be a lock for any tour by any band that is even
remotely considered to be a "college" band, much less one that is now
popular enough to play the major cities. No offense to Norfolk or its
inhabitants, but if you're going to play there, can't you pencil in Boston,
especially when you're playing every other major Northeastern city? If
anyone close to the band or in the know might have a reason as to why
they're skipping Beantown this time around, I'd really like to know. I'll
still bitch and moan, but at least I'll know why. Thanks.

Subject: [fjm] Tour update; SNL

There seems to be some confusion about the date of the Saturday Night Live
appearance. On the SNL episode of Dec. 13th they promoted the band during
what would be the "next week" promo bumper, leading some to think they
would be on the following week (Dec. 20). The promo actually said BFF
would be on when the show returned live, Jan. 10, and the show is in
reruns until then.

No new dates but a few new confirmed venues since yesterday's list:
Feb. 11: Dallas - Deep Ellum Live
Feb. 20: New York - Hammerstein Ballroom
Feb. 21: Philadelphia - Electric Factory
Feb. 22: Washington - 9:30 Club

Actually, I would normally just "deal with it". But about a month or so
ago, Ben himself stated in the paper here that Cleveland *would definitely*
be on the February Tour. So, as you can see, I've kind of been looking
forward to a Ben Folds Five concert for a month or so...

Hey there LAers! Yeah, we just had BFF play not too long ago at the El Rey,
and we all know now they're playing again on Sunday, Feb. 8th at the much
larger Palace.

Guess what! Tickets go on sale this Saturday for their next show! They're
going to be $16 (probably will end up being $20 or more with the added
Ticketmaster fees). I think they go on sale at noon this Saturday. PLEASE,
don't you all buy them up too quickly.... I'm quite broke and won't be able to
afford tix for some time. Thanks. ;-)

hey
just went to the bff gig in london shepherds bush empire
was the best thing ever though i preferred the one in july
they pissed about tons on stage but refused to play fanny packs as everyone
kept shouting it out
they gave the crowd backstages passes to the aftershow party, i got one and
went and met them again plus they remembered me from last time when i met
them outside tfi friday.
rob told os he preferred this gig cos when they played in the astoria the
stupid twats thought that cos they had a piano they were not a ruff band.
little did they know. people were rolling right onto the stage and
knocking over rob's mike etc...
it was good for the crowd cos you could easily get onto the stage but shit
for bff. as said by rob.

I don't believe it! What an ass! And to say Jewel is better than Brick,
weeeeelllllll......!!!!! I'm choking on my own rage here! I say you call
up the station & request it & if the guy gives you guff, you could start
a protest or something where you & all your friends & all their friends,
etc. don't listen to that station (you could actually tune out your
entire state to the station if people agree to participate!). But that's
just a suggestion. Man, I can't even fathom someone calling Ben Folds
Five crap! Geez!

Steve!

Hi Everyone

I'm pleased to announce the re-opening of the People on The Armchair page
for business. I finally got around to switching servers, and updating the
page. I now have Real Audio, some of my photos from the Dublin gig, lyrics,
FAQ, and of course the People on the Armchair page. Anyone who has mailed
me photos and details for the page over the last few months has been added
to the page. The new address for the page is:

http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Underground/2175/

If anyone wants to be added to the page, then send me details of yourself
and a photo like the other folks, and take your place among the super-elite
of the Armchair members!!

If anyone has a link to the old page on theirs, it's important that you
change it to the new address shown above. Thanks to all of you who have
been cool enough to send me stuff already.

Looking forward to hearing from you all,

Paul May
