Hey all,
I've been off the armchair for a while, due to study and stuff, but happily
back on now (o:. Anyway, to Richard Challen, (frustrated high school music
teacher?), I think we're all trying to figure out music for the songs, and
I've got the start of brick figured out I think. I dont know how I should
write piano music without manuscript, but the notes are

F# (down to) A (back up to) E F# E D E A D E D A D E and repeat.
It starts on F# above middle C and the A is below middle C, I think you can
figure the rest of the ups and downs from the music. Sorry for my
incompetence in conveying this information, best I can do.

One other mundane question, I've seen 'discussion' about the release date
of Naked Baby Photos in the US and UK, does anyone know when it will be out
in Australia? Keep humming everyone, nice to be back

dim.

Hi everyone,

I was just writing to tell Jessica that I'll possibly be going to the Feb.
5th Seattle show. But I'm not sure, as I'm at college in Southern Oregon and
it'll be a hell of a drive already. I'm for sure going to the Portland show.
So I'm
also wondering who's going to the Feb 4th Portland show?

wow- it's great to finally be back on the armchair after winter break. . .
but I have problems! I'm trying to figure out how to go to the Feb 15th
show in Chicago. If anybody knows how to get tickets long distance (i'm in
Minneapolis) or has driving/parking tips, I would be terribly grateful.

On another sort of similarly toned subject, I had problems ordering shirts
in december too. My mom ordered me a BFF shirt, and some other thing for my
brother. Anyway, she says his stuff arrived, but mine is still not there.
I guess they're just disorganized or something. But I want my shirt. >:|

My 2 "stuck by myself" songs would have to be Selfless, Cold and Composed
and Where's Summer B.? I almost have to say Fanny Packs, but I think if I
was stuck by myself for *too* long I would completely lose my mind.

And that's all!

Hey all -

Just a quick inquiry. Does anybody know anything about the Feb. 14th show
in St. Louis? Various webpages say it's slated to be held at the American
Theatre; however, I can't find squat about the American Theatre on the web.
I am also in dire need of ticket information (most importantly, how to get
'em). If anyone has *any* info regarding this show, PLEASE email me.
Thanks :)

Subject: Hello...

Hi - I'm new to the list. I live in Seattle, and already have my tickets
for the February show here. Although I've only been into BFF since "The
Battle of Who Could Care Less" came out, I've gotten to see three of their
live shows...In Seattle at Entros, in Portland on the Horde Tour (with
strings), and in Hollywood at the El Rey Theatre.

A lot of people have been asking about the song "Twin Falls" on the
upcoming album, by the group Built To Spill. It's a really beautiful
song (on their album "There's Nothing Wrong With Love"), reminiscing about
a crush growing up in a tiny town. If you're interested in them, check
out their site at http://www.wbr.com/builttospill/ - every album they have
put out is great, especially if you like guitar with great melodic vocal
lines.

- -John

p.s. Here are the lyrics to "Twin Falls"

Christmas Twin Falls, Idaho is her oldest memory
She was only two it was the first time she felt blue
Cafeteria, Harrison Elementary
Beneath a parachute I saw her without shoes
7UP I touched her thumb and she knew it was me
Although she couldn't see unless of course she peeked
My mom's good she got me out of Twin Falls, Idaho
Before I got too old you know how that goes
That's where she still was the summer she turned 17
In 1983, two weeks after me
Last I heard was she had twins or maybe it was three
Although I've never seen but that don't bother me

Sorry if I ramble a bit on my first post, but I've been waiting a while..

Note to anyone who is planning to go to the concert at the 930 on Feb
22... Buy tickets ahead of time!! The first time i heard the band (and
became an instant fan) was when they played at Georgetown in December (I
had the priviledge of being on the stage security staff & meeting the
band after (just when you think their musics kicks ass, you find that
they're coll guys too)). Anyways, the little publicized concert was sold
out + standing room (about 750 people), so I think the concert at the 930
will probably sell out.. also, if you're coming into DC and aren't
familiar with the club, be prepared to pay a cab fare to get to the 930..
if you need more info, write to me..

PLEASE I need some help here - BFF played "Jelly" at the concert - loved
the song, but what is it the B side to? can someone help me?

Last thing (I promise!) does anyone who is in the DC area have any BFF
tapes they would be willing to part with? thanks! =)

Howdy. Doug wanted me to forward a message, so here goes y'all...

To "grippe@cowland.com", Doug says that the song is NOT called "Space
Cowboy". It is called "The Joker".

That's it, unless he wanted me to include the part about loving the line,
"really
love your peaches, wanna shake your tree". He referred to this as
"classic prose". I would have to agree on that! he he.

So there ya go. It's called THE JOKER, not Space Cowboy, Mr. Grippe! :)

Ok this is more than a bit vaige but someone who I work with heard a band on the radio called something like "The Electric Skint Cowboys" and apparently they mentioned Ben Folds Five when they introduced them. Something along the lines of "including XXXX from BFF" or "formally of BFF". Does this mean anything to anyone or is she talking rubbish.

Talking about comparisons, Where's Summer B was probably inspired by the

The Feb 5 show is at DV8 at 131 Taylor N. near the Seattle Center. Tickets
are $15.50 and are "ON SALE NOW" through your friendly neighborhood
Ticketmaster. Hurry! It could sell out before you know it!

Subject: Boy, did I screw up! (Brick chords)

All right, before I get a slew of email about the *wrong* chords I posted
for the chorus on Brick, let me just try to correct myself now:

G A A/D (Dmaj7 add 9)
   She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
G A A/D
Off the coast and I'm headed nowhere
G A A/D (Dmaj7 add 9)
  She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly

Now pardon me while I quote Richard Challen:

>Except the VERY last time, when the bass changes the chorus to:
>G A Bm A/C#
> She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly

So I guess that it was *I* who had too many martinis before I sent my post.
Sorry to anybody who might have lost out on a potential gig because of
this little mishap. ;-) I can just see all of the people from the Armchair
that were sitting at the piano, playing the chords from my previous post
and saying, "This fool has *no* idea what he's talking about!" Sorry, I'll
put the bong down before my next post......

a great picture on the back cover with Ben doing his impression of Cornholio,
and a bunch of black and white photos in the insert, one of Darren guzzling a
Corona and sporting some lengthy sideburns.

Hello out there...
So I'm flipping through the third issue of the new women's magazine,
Jane (think Sassy for twenty-somethings), and come across a little blurb
in the Reviews section on the new album. It received 2 stars out of 4,
giving it an "okay" rating. Basically, it's a big old "let's-make-fun-of-
the-band-of-the-moment" review, with sentences like, "Judging by the
fluttering falsetto on the live tracks, success is going to Ben's head.
The live cuts do capture their onstage fizziness, but their exuberance
gets the best of them - check the metal howls on "The Ultimate Sacrifice"
and the hip-hop role-play on "For Those of Ya'll Who Wear Fanny Packs.""
Well, thanks, Brett Forrest, maybe now you can tell me what "fizziness"
means. It sounds like he's talking about Alka-Seltzer.
But I don't care. I'm still looking forward to the album, and to
receiving my BFF songbook. Whoo hoo! I also taught myself how to program
my VCR, and it's already all set for Saturday night - can't wait!

Counting the days down...

I went on an exchange program and saw BFF in England. It was the best
show I've ever seen. |I was really worrie about the trip since I had
only been out of the country once before. The first thing my host said
to me was "Have you ever heard of a band called Ben Folds Five. I got
tickets for their gig at The sheppards Bush tonight." Hell yea I've
heard of them. I had just seen them at Ziggy's in Winston Salem. Even
though I was severely jetlagged and the show went into the wee hours it
was the best show I've ever seen them play.
I guess indirectly I also had to deal with the popularity issue
too. Kate was huge in England when i was there (6 on the charts or
something|) so there were a ton of little 13 year old girls and the
such. Also, wven though I was the only one who had been following the
band for a few years the other 3 exchange students from the US went
too. now whenever something about BFF comes out they claim that they
had been listening to them forever. (Maybe two months before Brick hit
it big). I have to deal with this all the time, especially since I'm
from Charlotte and BFF is way overplayed. I'm now seeing this happen
with Marcy Playground, who I've also been following for a long time.
Its hard to let your favorite band hit it big, but its also really great
to be the expert on a band many people are trying to get into.

This is a post in response to the subject: school project. My two songs
would be The last Polka, and boxing. I love when it sounds like Ben is going
to pound the bottom out of the piano on The last Polka, and I think boxing is
by far their finest song. It's such a bittersweet reflection on the
relationship between Ali and Cosell, and the melody is one of the prettiest
I've ever heard. (I've always been a sucker for a good melody.) By the way,
this may be old news by now, as I haven't been on in some time, but the main
difference between Kate and Paul McCartney's Jet is that Jet is about
McCartney's dog, and Kate is most definitely not. There you go, for what it's
worth. "Yelling nobody cares, hoping someone will tell me how wrong I am..."
