PLEASE KEEP YOUR POSTS SHORT
Now that many list members are back with us, the volume of posts will

amount of text readers have to wade through. If you want to ramble on,
take it to IRC or the newsgroup.
Also remember to be very selective in your quoting of others'
messages. Don't quote an entire post just to add one or two lines. And
be especially careful not to quote the whole digest!!

Hello, Armchairites... 'tis been two long since I've settled down in my
cyber-realm to read all your rantings and musings...

Just wanted to add my two "must-have" songs to the growing pile of
greatness.

2) kate ("her mix tape's a masterpiece")
and
1) Philosophy ("it's really not that you can't see, the forest for the
trees... you've never been out in the woods alone...")

"Can't wait one minute more"... for Naked Baby Photos.

Lovingly yours...

Subject: Confusion Regarding St. Louis Show

Hello Armchairites-
There still is quite a bit a mystery about the American Theatre show in
St. Louis. The Epic e-mail and the BFF website both have this show on Feb.
14. I have been trying desperately to get info about this show. I've called
everywhere, and the places that I've called all have automated dialing, so I
can't talk to a real person. I have no clue when the tickets go on sale, or
why the Chicago show on the 15th has already gone on sale and the St. Louis
show hasn't yet as far as I can tell.
So anyways, today I was in Atomic Records reserving my copy of NBP (Which
I held in my hand!) and the guy there tells me that the St. Louis show is on
the 24th, and not the 14th. He gets those dates from Pollstar (or something
like that). That could explain why it's so hard to get info, because maybe
I've got the date wrong. But it would make more sense for them to be in
Texas, and then come up to St. Louis and then have a show in Chicago the next
night.
This all leads to a very important question......WHEN IS THE SHOW IN ST.
LOUIS
??????????????????????? And if you can answer that question, HOW DO I GET
TICKETS????????????? That's all and nothing more. I must go buy a blank tape
to tape SNL. Please help if you know anything. Gracias

Karen

Boy is it nice to get back to the Armchair! Winter break is nice and
all, but get me a computer dammit!
Well I got Naked Baby Photos a few weeks ago! I love it. I had never
heard Eddie Walker before and it's become one of my new favorites. And i
do SO love the cover of Twin Falls. It's such a sweet and cute song.
Built to Spill is a great band.
I got my Entertainment Weekly in the mail yesterday and apprantly they
didn't have as many complimentary things to say about NBP as I did.
Here's what the capsule review said:
"Ben Folds Five - Naked Baby Photos (Caroline): How could a band with
just two albums and little commercial successpossibly merit a
rarities/outtakes album? It doesn't, so instead of unreleased gems we
get underdeveloped early songs, inferior tracks (wisely) omitted fromits
first album and misguided rap and heavy metal parodies that are more
embarassing than amusing. But the biggest mistake is the inclusion of
live versions ofsome of its best songs, which, though mediocre, still
make the rest of this trivia soung insignificant by comparison. Grade:
C."

Ouch. I will refrain from verbally abusing the reviewer, but the last
word I would EVER use to describe them would be mediocre. And I wouldn't
call Eddie Walker and "inferior track." But alas, everyone is entitled
to their own opinion.

Did anyone tape the Are-Oh-Vee appearances the last few weeks? I was out
of town and I don't even know if we get KDOC on my cable. Somebody let
me know if you have a tape of it.

Hi everyone :-)
My name is Kyla and up until now I've been sort of a "silent
observer" of the ol' armchair....y'know, just soaking it all in ;-) I
live in Detroit and will (hopefully) be attending the Clutch show
(woo hoo!) Anyway my question is: a while ago I remember someone
posting an address for a web page that had a free bff screen saver on
it. Am I hallucinating or can someone confirm this and/or give the
address again? Thanks in advance!

Hello, All!

So, I dug out the ole Steve Miller Box set (I will admit to buying mine) and
gave Space Cowboy a listen. I probably never would have made the
conncetion myself, had it not been brough up, but I do very much see the
resemblance to Kate. The cadance and bass lines are identical, but the
melody are completely different. Unfortunately, I think ANY court would
call it unintentional copyright infringement and Sony would be writing
Steve Miller or Capitol Records a nice hefty check if the ever wanted to
push the issue. Let's hope it never comes to that! (but just in case, if you
know any friends of Steve Miller or B. Sidran (the co-writer), or anyone
in the legal department of Capitol records. . .do be a favor. . .kill 'em!)
