The Questions
1: Ben Folds had a brush with studio work in Nashville
(even playing drums on Christian-rock records) and
worked eight months in New York arranging music for an
off-Broadway version of a popular movie. What was the
name of the movie for which Ben Folds was arranging
                music?

2: Where did Ben get the words to "Cigarette"?

3: Who is Steven in "Steven's Last Night in Town"?

4: Which Ben Folds Five song, originally cut from their
first
                album, features an acoustic guitar?

5: What was BF5's first ever single?

Bonus: According to Robert, which country's soccer team
                has the nicest jerseys?

Hey armchairties.....OK so I've been reading a couple of post of people
saying how NBP sucks or it's odd that they are releasing it at this
point in their career....I'm not sure about this but I heard it
somehwhere that the only reason they did do this album was because they
had a contract to fill with caroline and that's why the album mostly
contains stuff from the first album...am I wrong I think I read it in
some website...anyone else see this???.....btw why is ben wearing a GnR
shirt???..just curious.....see you at the toronto show!

hey guys, vito here
well, this may be my last post to this crazy, crazy list. I have really had
a blast with it in the past, but now, its time to move on. This is where
the new generation of "Brick" fans and the old generation of "BFF" fans
part and go our seperate ways.
I know that tons of new fans are comin in, due to the reoccuring damn
"phone ringing" debate and the meaning of Brick. So Im just gonna back
off. I'll still read it like once a month, and maybe i'll even post to it,
but for now, well, i hold back tears as i say...

i couldn't agree more. but perhaps i could suggest a few reasons for NBP.
caroline records is a relatively small label. they sort of "discovered" BFF and
put them in the spotlight. from there, sony (SONY!) picked them up and made
them big. and i would definitely say they are big (SNL, letterman, MTV live,
etc). anyway - caroline records still holds rights to all (or most) of the
songs on NBP and figured out they could make some money on the BFF stuff in
their vaults. my guess is that they are under some kind of contractual time
line bullshit and so they had to release it while they could - and while BFF is
on the popularity climb. Phishrman1 made a good observation, but BFF may not
have had much to do with it. someone at caroline probably suggested it and BFF
agreed to do a photo shoot or something.

Phishrman1 also wrote:

i found this to be arrogant and inappropriate. lemme guess - you have been on
the armchair since #16, you have been listening to BFF since march of 1994, and
you had them sign a ticket stub after a show? is that correct? have i got you
pinned? i really do not mean to rag on you, mr. Phishrman1, but it seems that
many people on the armchair have taken your approach to posting. it seems like
it is a requirement for posting that you must state how big of a fan you are,
and how closely you know the band, in order for people to really listen to what
you are saying. - there is a point here somewhere - bare with me. - the
armchair has just been too competitive lately. everyone on the list is a big
fan (or else why would we tolerate 4 armchairs per day to stack up in our
inboxes?) and we are all happy people with happy comments. why do we need to
question the validity of our comments? why must we assert our BFF knowledge
before making a comment? armchair posts that begin with a condescending tone
are not fun to read. hey kids, lighten up! this is supposed to be fun!

I know all you people out there are slavering like hungry dogs,
shivering with antici.................pation to hear my take on NBP. Well,
I didn't get to hear all of it, but Kara let me borrow hers for a while.
"For Those Of Y'all That Wear Fanny Packs" is simply brilliant. I lvoe it
to death. Everything else I heard was great too, but as the boys said,
this is a album for the fans. And also, I'm glad to see that my references
to Discordianism don't fall on deaf ears. I think if you haven't yet, you
should go to your local bookstore, pick up the Principia Discordia, go
directly to a artsy coffee house somewhere, and read. People will
definitely come up and talk to you. They might be indulging in the
Discordian tradition of "scaring the straights," but they'll talk.
Remember, we're harmless pranksters. Really. Believe us. ;) Anyway, I've
rambled enough for one night. Laters all! Hail Eris!

Here's the way I learned the porn star name game:

your middle name+the street you live on = porn name.

Of course, that would make me Barrett Walnut, which is neither sexy nor
remotely cool for a *girl* porn star. I'd prefer something cool, like
Rosemary Cameron. ;)
And, um. . .BFF content. . .

I really want to try to tape the Chicago show, but I have no idea how.
Anybody with taping experience who wants to be nice and advise me, please
e-mail me. I need to do it with a minimum of equipment. Thanks. :)

I don't have NBP yet, so can't just listen myself to find out: are the
vocals for those tracks mixed off-center? That is, do they sound more to
the left or right, rather than right in the middle? If so, that would
explain why they don't go away with you turn on the karaoke feature on your
stereo.

Hello Folks,
Someone asked about Built to Spill, and if they had any recordings.
They sure do...4 albums worth (ones a singles/b-sides comp.) The record with
Twin Falls is "Theres Nothing Wrong with Love". Its an amazing record on a
label called "UP". Its in print, although BTS is now on Warner Brothers.

It wasn't BFF's idea to do this release in the first place. Read this from
"Wall of Sound" to see why they put out Naked Baby Photos.

	"It might be premature
to put out a record like this celebrating the band before the band has
been celebrated," singer and pianist Ben Folds told Wall of Sound.
"At the same time, it gives the people who have been into us for a
long time something to take home that resembles what they saw at a
    show."

Although the album started life as a contractual obligation, the band
eventually warmed to the idea. "I wasn't excited about it to begin
with," says Folds. "Then we started to look through all these old
tapes and I was like, wait a minute, this is kind of cool because we
do one thing on record and in our live shows our fans see a whole
    other side of things."

Hey, those of us who are not 21 are offended by your ALWAYS offensive and
degrading posts. Then again, those of us who are of age really find them
quite entertaining...much more fun that discussing whether pogoing should
be allowed at shows or not...which brings me to my next point...

>Sandi, you wanna me buy you a cone and lollipop?? That's what you need,
>more sugar at the shows to make you pogo even more and disturb all the
>BEN/DARREN/ROBERT-luster-crazy girls (and maybe boys, who knows!)

Yes, I would love you to buy me one of the above mentioned items...and I
do not pogo, I dance...which sometimes may require the occasional jumping
up and down...but that's usually just when I have to pee and we all know
I'm not about to leave in the middle of a show just to do that! But
since you are such a sweetie and had to bring it up, you are now
scheduled to dance or pogo (whichever you prefer...I prefer to dance)
along with me at the Chicago show...Jen is welcome as is Tina and Anne...
 :)

One more thing...
>Does anybody really know what time it is?
Yes! It's time to ROCK! I can just hear Ben saying that in his little
metal voice. How cute. Actually, it's time to hit up 10 cent beer night
down the street. Catch you guys later....how 'bout that Naked Baby
Photos album, huh? Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful...

First of all, am I the only one that values BFF's rockin' side? "Bad Idea" and "Fanny
Packs" are 2 of the best songs on there, if not THE best! I prefer the live version
of "Emaline," as well as "Tom & Mary." And "The Ultimate Sacrifice" is AWESOME!
Of course it sounds like Rush (ugh), it's supposed to, dumbass!

But anyway, in response to the heated discussions about how many songs bands play
on SNL nowadays... Here's a look at this season to date, of the top of my head.
My general observation is, the better the band, the fewer songs they play.
9/27- Jamiroquai - 1 song
10/4- Oasis - 2 songs
10/18- Bjork - 2 songs
10/25- Mighty Mighty Bosstones - 1 song
11/8- Jane's Addiction - 1 song
11/15- Mariah Carey - 2 songs
11/22- Sarah McLaughlan - 1 song, and another in "Weekend Update"
12/13- Hanson - 2 songs
and...
1/10/98- Ben Folds Five - 1 nerve-wrecked slow, boring song.

In my opinion, they don't belong on major national shows like SNL. They were obviously
quite nervous. We all know how much better than that they are. It would be better
for the masses to have never heard of them than to have and say they suck.

it was DJ Tunny, too!! Hello!? Has the world gone crazy? No, just me.

PPS: regarding Darren's "I'm the man" looks on the SNL episode
