First off, why did Saturday Night Live give BFF the boot after only one song
when most other bands and things (Spice Girls) get two slots?
Also, couldn't they have cut the terrible "Playboy Presents: Let's Git It
Awwwn!" sketch?
What was the band's reaction to the sound flubs during 'Brick' where you could
see Ben getting seriously distracted at the bass-mic cut-off...

Finally, what does Ben Folds think of Joe Jackson? Since I have such respect
for both and both seem to mine similar styles of music, I was wondering what
his take on Mr. Jackson was...

If anyone can offer up info or show helpful arrows, feel free to e-mail me...
Thanx and buenos

Well, first let me say that while the Raleigh station is killing Brick, I
didn't hear it one time while I was home in Charlotte over the break.
Hmm. The station that sponsored their show in Charlotte barely plays it.
I'm not complaining, though.

My porn name, according to the formula, would be Minnie Four Oaks.
Actually I already have a porn star's name--my real name is Ginger Lynne
Nance--and there is some porn star out there named Ginger Lynn. My poor
best friend had quite an experience trying to find my web page through a
search engine!

To all the people having trouble finding NBP, I'm sorry. I guess there is
an advantage to living in Chapel Hill--we have plenty of copies, and
they're $13.99, so if anyone is really desperate I could probably buy you
and copy and mail it to you or something.

I have to agree with Judi on this one. I think Tom & Mary is simply one of
their best songs. I must admit that I was a bit surprised with Ben's comment
on this one in the liner notes. He said "it really didn't hurt their
feelings" when this song was cut from the first album. Don't they like their
own song? Or did it just not fit their idea for the album? In any case, I
love it even though I have it on several bootlegs already.

Ben Folds Five: Naked Baby Photos
  3 and 1/2 stars
In trashing this album, a critic in Entertainment Weekly wondered how a band
with just two albums and little commercial success could possibly merit a
rarities album.
I'd say ask a fan.
A collection of outtakes, rarities, alternate versions, a Built To Spill cover
and raw live recordings of classics like "Boxing" and "Song for the Dumped,"
it may not have the mass appeal of the latest from Biggie or Garth. And yet,
in its way, it's at least as essential to fans of the band as six discs of
Beatle anthologies were to the people who care about THAT band.
"Eddie Walker" -- an early display of the towering wall of harmonies the mis-
titled trio would later revisit to chilling effect on "Missing the War"-- is
better than any outtake has a right to be (and the liner notes say it's the
first song to click in rehearsals, so there's your historical peg).
"Jackson Cannery," a defining moment on that first piano-rocking effort, is
featured here in the 7-inch version the people from Caroline bought at a show
before signing the band. It's not much different, really-- a few less backing
vocals, a funkier bass-- but that's not the point of historical documentation
now, is it?
"Emaline," cut from the band's first album, emerges here as classic-issue
early Folds with one significant change. It's got an acoustic guitar. And as
Folds himself points out in the liner notes, that could've ruined the whole
guitarless army angle.
A handful of juvenile novelty cuts-- including not on but two half-funny heavy
metal parodies-- seem destined to wear a bit thin after two or three listens.
But other than that, you won't find much in the way of filler here. Even the
throw-away snippet of Folds going off on a sloppy New Orleans-inspired piano
break is guaranteed to raise a smile.
Those unfamiliar with what makes Folds the most refreshing voice in '90s pop
are advised to begin with "Whatever and Ever Amen" and the earlier self-titled
classic. Once you're hooked, you'll understand the appeal of hearing the band
with its pants down.
                                                                         - Ed

I had a dream that Phish was a chic band. It was really weird. I went to
their concert expecting guys, when a bunch of girls came out and I was like huh?
Wouldn't it be really fun to have the guys over for dinner!!!!!! We'd have
pizza and beer. Then Ben could play BRICK on my crappy upright (just
kidding) No, I'd rather him play salsa Julianne. The word Salsa reminds me
of salty Tostidos sp? You know, those nacho chips that are really good? My
parents would love them (BFF, not the chips). I love them!!!!! And I feel
loved by then. I am happy!!!!
Yeah, BFF should put on a show just for armchair members. That would be so
much fun :)
It will happen, it better happen
My friend told me Jewel did that with the members of her mailing list.
Ok, this is really annoying, when your at a party and the DJ plays BRICK

I'm just being selfish about my guys, its mean. I should share them. But
only with people who have the potential to be "TRUE FANS"

ENOUGH BORING YOU!!!

Hey Armchairers,

Along with Vito, I myself am going to begin backing off and go my separate
way. I've been on the Armchair a while now, and it's been fun, but it's time
for the old and new to part. Maybe I can actually get that List I promised for
you old fans set up. At any rate, I wanted to ask and maybe pose a possibility
to the "who's Eddie Walker?" mystery.
Eddie Walker, I noticed, is the name of one of Bus Stop's band members.
Might it be a childhood friend of Chuck's who Ben envied or hated, or had some
sort of strange relationship with? Keep the same title if you reply, because
it gets annoying sorting through whiny NBP and SNL posts looking for yours and
ones of importance to you...

First off let me say....

BEN CLAUSEN CAN KISS MY ASS!

secondly....
i think that NBP is a premature album .....whether BFF had a choice in
releasing it or not. and MY opinion is all that counts....NUTS TO ALL YOU WHO
BELIEVE OTHERWISE.....(that'll stir up some trouble)...hehe

third....
now that the SNL frenzy has simmered down a little, i want a chance to say
this about that NBC performance....
I thought it was cool that ben used the original piano, but...it was sort of
out of tune (even though it kind of added to the mood)
...also bens singing was not at its best....i told my well-respected music
professor to watch...and he couldnt believe that i liked someone who could be
so off key....i felt a little stupid.

fourth
....its pissing me off that BFF is the "brick" band. I know people who think
that the BFF makeup is a piano, drum, and STANDUP bass....they dont even know
that the boys can ROCK!!! SHEESH!!!!

i also have to agree with you vito!
the armchair is getting very repetitive and reiterated.

hey guys! first off, i think we all should give my mom a standing ovation.
because my stupid school requires my presence at 12:00 in the afternoon, i
wasn't around to call ticketmaster today to get ben folds five tickets for
nyc. my mom sat around the house and called from 12:00 until 12:15 (NONSTOP)
until she got the tickets. all hail my mother!! woohoo!
btw--has anyone ever noticed that ticketmaster agents never ever ever know who
ben folds five are? they are still saying ben folds who? and ben folds foof?
and random shite like that...
well well well, underground is on 106.3 right now which totally rules. at
least every station isn't obsessed with brick. although, the 'popular'
stations in my area have picked it up and say it's "new music". everyone in my
school comes up to me every morning and says 'hey jess, i heard 'brick' on
97.5 or Z100 and thought of you.' it';s sooo annoying. sure, i want people to
know who they are, but not THIS many people!! it's so unnerving!

Yes, tickets did go on sale at 10:00 today and yes, I had a pair by 10:30!

But the weirdest thing was I got to work and turned on the radio and just
as I was sitting down, the radio station (105.1) announced that they were
giving away a pair of Ben Folds Five tickets to the first person to call
and say how many members there are in the band. Like, duh?

And this was at 8:00 in the morning!

All day the station has been giving away tickets for the Clutch Cargo
show, and the dj this morning kept saying how much fun they were to see
live. I've never heard so much publicity. I called the dj and asked him
to play some BFF besides Brick, but I didn't hear any (I wasn't always
next to my radio, however). Life goes on.

I absolutely LOVE NBP, and am so glad to finally get to hear Eddie Walker.

I don't think that the armchair is a good place to get overly upset when
you don't agree with someone's opinion.
Assuming that Ben was sick just because he showed some emotion during a
song? Well I don't agree, but Ben hasn't called to dispute that fact, so
it's anyone's guess, I guess.
But get your facts straight.
