hey all,

E! Online posted up this review of Naked Baby Photos recently (they gave
it a c+) ...

"The thing about baby pictures is that only family members can really
get into them. At least the piano-led trio of BFF recognize this fact;
Naked is less an album than a series of outtakes, some new stuff, some
live, some favorite hard-to-get material. Sometimes, it feels tossed
off--silly jams like "The Ultimate Sacrifice" are intentionally
lightweight, but feel more like a waste of time, and the jazzy "Dick
Holster" cries out for more exploration. But when BFF stand back and let
a gem reveal itself, songs like the joyous, toe-tapping "Tom & Mary" and
the wistful, pretty "Alice Childress" shine with the band's signature
balls-out piano fury. Still, this is a mixed bag that's worth exploring
only for those firmly in the Ben Folds fold."

Also, does anyone else know about a BFF release called "There's Spring
of Myself" ? what is this? I think it might have Video Killed the Radio
Star on it b/c it's on this web page that has some other cd's with
covers of VKTRS on them (like PUSA). There's a picture of the cd cover
on it too, it's at
http://www.locomotive.co.jp/jumble/staffroom/kumegawa/bc_o.html the
entire page is in Japanese or something so I couldn't read the little
blurbs next to them. Alright then, fahrvergnugen!

Hello!

I'm new to the list and just thought I'd pop in and say "Hi". I've seen
a couple familar names from the Weezer list, so hey there to you guys!
Anyway, yes, I am a new BFF fan. I will have you know that it is not
because of "Brick"! That song is actually a little too slow for my
tastes, yet surprisingly I think it's still good (and better than
anything else you hear on the radio nowadays). At any rate, I plan to
attend their show at the 9:30 Club on February 22nd and I can't wait,
especially after hearing rave reviews of their shows from a friend
(Kara, are you on this list?) and my bass teacher.

All my first posts to mailinglists seem to include a plea for bootlegs
and this one is no exception. I don't have any BFF, but I am definitely
interested in obtaining some! So if you trade, please drop me a line
and I'm sure we can work something out, alrighty? Thanks!

Well, I guess that's it. Oh wait... My porn star name would be Barbara
Tanterra (middle name + street name = porn name --- right?). Nothing
special.

Well, take care for now! :)

RARITIES; Being new to this list, I was just wondering if there were any
BFF rarities, complilations, etc put together by fellow fans that I may
purchase. Through the Toad the Wet Sprocket digest I have obtained
wonderful audio tapes, video tapes and even a CD that the fans put out
for distribution. I know Toad okays recording at concerts and
distribution as long as people dont charge (the CD was actually a fund
raising project for one of their causes)...not sure of BFF's stand on all
this.

MEETING THE BAND: Also, I have met Toad before as they usually hang out
after to meet with their fans...does BFF do they same..they seem like
that kind of people...I hung out for a while at their show but was unable
to meet up with them. Anyone have any tips on meeting the band when I see
them at their next show??

NEWBIE: Hi..I am new to armchair..and fairly new to BFF...within the last
year..although I love them and have all 3 cds. I was turned on to them
thru my Toad the Wet Sprocket digest and when they came here in concert I
bought a ticket without ever hearing their music (other than 12 Angry
Dwarfs..this was prior to the Brick airplay) ) and fell in love with
them instantly. They reminded me of Jellyfish who is (was) also one of my
favs.

NBP: I called store after store to get NBP...most were either sold out or
not in yet. Finally a CIrcuit City had one left but wouldnt hold it for
me...it was about a 30 min ride away. I drove like crazy and got there in
time..it was only $12.99 also. I have to say I enjoy the CD for the
rarities for what I hope will be the start of my BFF rarity collection. I
only hope people who have only heard Brick, dont go out and buy this CD
because I dont think it shows the full scope of BFF's talent and they may
be disappointed. But..like Toad..I like having the smaller following
leading to the small venues!!

Could you e-mail me if you are? I just wanted to know. I'm definately
gonna stay late to meet the band & get autographs & such. I hope to tape
the show as well. Heh-heh. I might even try to get in during sound check,
but I'll probably be booted out. I'm also proud to say that I WILL STAY
SOBER FOR THE ENTIRE CONCERT!!! I'm a youngun who will probably be
roughed up by one of those people who like to undertone their posts with
anti-youth oriented fan material (and you know who you are!!!). *HUMOROUS

I know some of you have had trouble tracking down a copy of NBP, but for
those of you in Seattle, I just got mine @ Tower in Bellevue. They had
plenty, including several on 2 different endcaps. To my dismay,
however, I cannot play it @ work. Could just be digital weirdness, or I
may have gotten a bad copy.
I've seen a few posts about the identity of Eddie Walker. Although
there is an Eddie Walker in Bus Stop & Snuzz, he's not the object of the
song. As you may know, Ben loves to write songs about people he knows &
give them names of different people he knows-that way nobody knows whom
the song is really about. So that's the damn deal about that. (+ Ben
has said directly that the song's not about that Eddie Walker.)
Anyone else going to DV8? If'n you are, email me & we'll figure out
cool name stickers to wear to ID each other.

HI,
I actually had to special order my copy of NBP in Philly because they
sold out so quickly. Anyway, I've heard most of the tracks already, but
I LOVE the Cd! By the way, I was(and still am) a GNR fan and was so
happy to see Ben's tee on the Cd cover!!

P.S. Just bought my tickets to the show in Philly through
Ticketmaster. I paid $45 for 2 due to the surcharges and stuff. I
really miss the old days of cheap concert tickets!

Howdy Armcharites. I kinda consider NBP to be a nice appetizer for the
upcoming studio album (is there one?). I love all the new non-studio album
songs especially Eddie Walker and Bad Idea. I'm annoyed by folks who poo poo
on BFF for releasing NBP at this time because it wasn't their idea...Caroline
is doing this because it's a money making opportunity. I, as a big fan, am
overjoyed that they released this cause it gives me something new to listen to
from my favorite band. I just wish Dr. Pyser was on there...

Heya Chairite.

As with everyone else, I've been listening to NBP. Usual accolades
etc. etc. But I couldn't help thinking I've heard bits of "Bad Idea"
before. Towards the end of the song, when they're singing in those
weird voices and the couple of seconds of speech just before the next
track... it sounds just like part of this Frank Zappa CD my mates got
(I'm not really a big fan). Is there any possible connection to the
psychedelic sixties bloke?

P.S. I think it's been established now that there's a phone ringing

I hate to disappoint you, but "Fast Car" (no s) by Tracy Chapman is A /
E / F#m / E. Different inversions for some of those chords, but you get
the idea. While my song (and Marcy's song, too) is Bm/ A/ G/ D ... which
sounds similar to a lot of other songs, but NOTHING like Tracy
Chapman's.
Just defending my honor... sorry for off-topic. Now, if you want to
discuss how you can sing all the verses to "Fast Car" over "Jack &
Diane" by John Cougar (A/ E/ D/ E), be my guest. :)
