NOT POST UNSUBSCRIBE REQUESTS TO THE LIST ITSELF! If you are having

your old address, then subscribe using your new account.

LET'S KEEP IT ON TOPIC
Recently some of the discussion threads have wandered off topic,
eliciting posts that have nothing to do with BFF. Even if it's in reply
to something that's been said on the Armchair, keep in mind that if it
doesn't have to do with BFF, it's off topic. The cute banter belongs in
an AOL chat room, not here.
Also please note a couple days ago the item I posted asking you not
to offer bootlegs for sale. I've updated the "charter", so to speak, to
include that. It might be a good idea to review the list of rules for
yourself. To get an updated copy, either visit
http://oeonline.com/bff/list/ or send a message to
armchair-request@maillist.il.fontys.nl with 'intro armchair' (without the
quotes) in the message body.

well guys, i know you probably all hate me, but i was one of the runnerups in
this contest. i won a copy of nbp (my 2nd one...cool--1 for the car and 1 for
my room) and a cd single of some other song--i forget what it is right now.
all i know is that i didn't have it b4, which means they probably don't sell
it. it was soo cool bc i had no clue that i had won bc i forgot about the
contest (i sent in my answers at the last second on the day it was due...the
very last minute!!) and the other day got a package in the mail from caroline
records with the two cds inside. so i went on that website and saw my name
there. i thought it was pretty cool. btw--what did the 1st and 2nd place
winners get? --jess

Hey Wonderful Gals and Guys!!!

Haven't posted for a while, so here goes:

About Song For The Dumped being the next single, it could just
possibly be it. Aussies out there may recall that SFTD was one of the songs
that they played live on JJJ on the Ladies Lounge, along with One Angry
Dwarf. It had alll those 4 letter "F" words in it as well.

I got Naked Baby Photos a week ago thanks to Matt ordering it. I had
to pay an extra couple of dollars cos it was an import but it was worth it.
I must say my favourite at the moment from NBP is Eddie Walker and the
version of Julianne - I just love that samba like intro.

And I'd like to pay tribute to the inventors of VCR's, especially
the programming feature. Aren't they wonderful gadgets?? Thanks to my VCR, I
got to finally see the Brick video because I could not stay awake till 1.30
in the morning for it. Luckily they did show it on Rage last night.

Petra, your video is finished, now I just need to make a copy for
myself. Sorry it has taken a while!

Well thats it for my rambling.

Here's my gripe:

My local radio station (WENZ in cleve-o) plays friggin "Brick" EVERY day
when i am trying to get up for school (around 8 AM) and EVERY day i fall
back asleep because it is such a GODAWFUL slow song....

So i wish wish wish wish they'd release something else, or go back to
playing "Underground" or SOMETHING so i can make it to class on time.

Come ON, Tom and Mary got beat out by Evaporated? Jeez Louise.

What I really wanted to ask about on this post is, does anyone have/know of
recordings of September 67 opening for BF5 last spring? They did at least
the Providence and Boston dates in May 97, other than that I am not sure, but
I would love to find that. BTW if you don't know of them you should take a
listen.

Also, to Alby Tha Newbie, you are not missing a "hidden track" per se on
WAEA, there is just some dialogue between the guys, very NBP-esque fucking
around, in between the songs, which I guess Mr. Corporate Entity decided to
wipe clean from the new pressings, the lame-asses. So find someone with an
old CD and turn the volume up really loud.

Hey Fivers,

Considering I'm not fluent in Japanese, nor do I care to be, I was
wondering if anyone knows the translation of the liner notes in the Japanese
import of the self-titled disc. I was looking through it, and it peaked my
interest because it seems like a review of the band, or some sort of
discography that I'm sure is worth reading. If anyone can enlighten me, I'd
really appreciate it -- it's definitely not in the American pressing.

I also beg to differ with this fact....I have heard many a influence from ben

pick them up and use them in your life. It doesn't thave to be one thing that

Subject: BFF in CMJ (& other stuff)

Det. Dave here...

Got my copy of CMJ New Music Monthly in the mail yesterday, and much
to my delight saw BFF as the featured artist on the front cover. CMJ
New Music is a magazine that reviews the latest in "New" Music
(non-mainstream) The best part is the sample CD which contains about
20 tracks of the artists covered in the mag. You know what that
means...a live version of "Smoke" is track 1!!!

Just go out and get it. Totally worth the 5 bucks.

Also...
Stop griping about this list!!! I've been a longtime member of the
They Might Be Giants list and everything everyone complains about has
happened there and will continue to happen on every list out there.
So, in order to make this list a "kinder and Gentler" place, I humbly
offer these suggestions:

1) Post whatever you want as long as it is BFF related. Someone might
be interested.

2) If you don't like what you are reading, JUST SCROLL DOWN!!! You
don't own this list (well, Frank does and you don't see him
complaining).

3) Dream posts are cool. They allow us to get to know each other and
help us form a true community (ok, everyone, all together...
1..2..3...AWWWWW!!!)

4) Lyric interps are also welcome. Since there seems to be a lot of
turnover on this list and new people join all the time, don't freak
if someone offers an interp (Uh, I think Brick is about getting an
abortion) that you have already read. Everyone was a newbie once.

5) Lurk (read, but don't post) for a while. It'll give you a chance
to kinda get the feel for the list.

6) There is no number six (two points for anyone who gets this)

7) Don't insult people. Flame wars should be kept off the list.

8) Don't troll (post inflammatory statements like "BFF sucks!!! I
think they should break up"). Someone will get upset and respond.
Yippee. What fun.

Finally, I have a CD burner and would be willing to burn any of you a
copy of any high quality bootlegs you might have. Of course, I'll
burn one for myself at the same time. ;-) Just send me an email
(detdave@mediaone.net) and let me know what you have. If it sounds
interesting we can make arrangements.

Oh well, I'm missing the Simpsons, so I think I'll say:

CYA!!!

Brick is currently standing at #5 in Triple J's new request-countdown
show, the Net 50.

Listeners are asked to vote for their most loved or most hated songs
through the Triple J website (http://www.abc.net.au/triplej); the votes
are then collated and the top 50 played every week on the show.

Go Brick!

Subject: class envy??

As the band grows in popularity...I think we should have some sort of class
distinction to let people know where in BFF fandom you stand.

example:

Brickheads- Brand new to the band and the list...."just love that
song....what's it about??" maybe have yet to buy the album but LOVE that
song!!

Walters- Have both the s/t and WAEA albums....know most of the words and band
bios...(generally, at this point, walters tend to look down upon brickheads
who ramble incessantly about stuff that could easily be learned by either
buying the album or checking out a couple websites)

Emalines-have all three albums, maybe a couple of import singles/live shows
and are starting to hear and comment on unreleased songs much to the confusion
of both Brickheads and Walters

Whippers-Have all the aforementioned stuff including a bunch of live
shows/memorabilia. Has heard previous bands that members of BFF haves been in
and know quite a bit of trivia about the band.

Uncle Plastic Bitches-have most everything that they can get there grubby
little hands on......wait impatiently for new material and will physically
harm you if you come between them and a 7" Jackson Cannery. UPBs (as they are
fondly called) can be pleasant as in spinning a live tape for a newbie or mean
as hell as in completely trashing a brickheads first post. Mostly, its a
mixture of both that is common. UPBs are a great source of information but
seem to grow irritated when asked something that a walter could answer. Tread
lightly.

we are all fans, or else we would not be on this list, but everyone is at a
different stage. I think knowing where a person is at will bring a little more
civility to the list. These terms aren't meant to be degrading to any class,
but are to be used as a reference to depth in fandom. Let me know whatcha'
think.
