DO NOT REPLY TO OFF-TOPIC OR INSULTING MESSAGES!!!
So many people are complaining about how much space these useless

problem by quoting or replying to these messages themselves.
Posts with no BFF content are off topic. So are posts of a moderating
nature (that's my job). Usually I will send a gentle reminder to
those who violate these rules, but lately it just seems to go on

BACK ON SCHEDULE

Subject: about the LA show at the Palace

howdy-do armchairites,

i was a bit paranoid and so i called the Palace today to ask a few
questions. They said that they allow cameras (if the band says it's okay) but
NO audio or video recording is allowed. I asked if they are allowed if the
band says it's okay and she said no. I don't know whether to take this ladys
word, she could just be an uninformed secretary getting paid minimum wage and
dishing out wrong info.

Well just in case, you guys can call them at (213)462-6031 or (213)462-3000
and find out for yourselves. So if you're planning to record the show, hide
your stuff well. But like i said, it might just be a bunch of hogwash!!

Frank, can you get in touch with the boys so they can let recorders in.
you've got the best connections and if anyone can do it, it's you.

see you soon! i hope this gets posted before sunday!

Subject: anti BFF in Rolling Stone

In Australian Rolling Stone magazine for January 1998 there is a bit of an
anti-BFF letter. Or at least, anti BFF behaviour letter. Pardon me for
resurrecting the old Geoff Harvey incident (funny though it was) but I
thought this letter was interesting. PLUS - she provided an email address
so you can all write to her if you like. The bits in brackets are my
additions.

"ROCK STARS SUCK: ...my eagerness (for buying R.S) turned to disdain when i
read your articles on...Ben Folds Five. What annoyed me most about the
articles was your seeming support of their ridiculous behaviour. No matter
what one's opinion is of this show (ie: Midday) they still deserve the
respect of performers for the simple fact that they reach a whole other
audience to sell albums and tickets to (I can't really see the 80+ blue
rinsers turning up to a BFF gig, but anyway). Being a contemporary
singer/songwriter, I know how hard it is to get airplay on these shows...so
maybe I just have more respect for the people that ask you to perform on
these shows. I don't have a problem with musos going off but the least you
can do if you're going to destroy a $100 000 concert piano is check with
the owner first. (Are they really this much? Wow!) And for all of you musos
that think I'm a prude, remember what you had to go through to afford your
equipment? What this band did was dis you big time by not giving any
thought to how much equipment is worth. After all, how would you feel if
you let some guy sit in one night at a gig and at the end of a song he
destroyed your rig? Something to think about. Kristi, fabulous@iweb.net.au"

Something to think about indeed.

Cheers,

Petra

i would LOVE to hear them do alison, one of my favorite ec songs, but the
one i think they'd do an even better job on would be "every day i write
the book" (sorry if that's not the title; i never got most of his stuff
on cd, just tapes, and don't know titles). the person who posted about it
said they didn't like "goofy" covers and this one might be.... i can just

To Richard Challen and anyone who is interested,

Okay finally I know for sure that Ben would not at all attack Jeff
Buckley because I have written evidence about how much he respects Jeff
and his work. When BF5 was in Aust. doing the tour thing they had an
interview and the entire interview revolved around how cool Jeff
Buckley was. Apparentely they knew Jeff's girlfriend and use to have her
play on the strings for them.
Anyway I am just agreeing with Richard, but one piece of advice Richard,
lets drop the Backstreet Boys from the "cool" B list.

Subject: A few thoughts and comments

Okay well I just have a few things to clear up...
First of all I just joined this mailing list not too long ago and I've
been reading in amny posts about the new members being Brickheads and
whatnots. I'm sure that qualifies for alot of people but I just got
this intenet account.
I'm not going to saw however that I've been a fan of BFF sine when they
first started. I got a sampler of Whatever and Ever Amen at Edgefest in
June. I sorta knew about them then but couldn't call myself a fan. So
after listening to it that night I went out and bought the cd. Anyways
now I own them and I found this nifty little store that carries many of
their singles as well. I also have an interview Newmusic from a while
back with Darren doing his interprative dance and Ben hanging with his
bitches as he calls them. Anyways that's irrelevant.
One more thing about Brick I like it and everything and the last thing
I want to do is bring up another Radiohead argument/comparison in here
but I have a feeling that Brick to BFF is going to be like Creep to
Radiohead. With Wanabe fans showing up tp the shows, and then leaving
after they play the song. I hope though that it doesn't turn out that
way.
I think I've written a long enough novel for tonite

I must say, I too feel the same about the lack of taste portrayed by the
members of this list. I've always felt that labeling fans is stupid; I
mean, what the hell is up with that? I've only known about bff for a
few months...i just got their cds in the past month. So what does that
make me, according to your little characterizations? I have the same
love for the music, the same desire to hear them, see them perform, play
their music, etc. So you are better than me? Typical american
viewpoint. I have no clue what your classification system is, but i
wanna be kate...i've always liked the idea of cross-dressing.

Still waiting for them to play a hometown gig this tour,

Subject: UK singles, Summer B lyrics

Question: have there been any UK singles since "Kate"? I have all of them
up through that one, but if there's more, I need to get my grubby little
hands on 'em.

And another lyric debate from the girl who brought you the Bad Idea question:

What the Sam Hill does Ben say at the end of "Where's Summer B.?"? The part
that sounds like "we'll smoke a bowl with Kate, we'll find a way, we'll
settle down..." He kind of mumbles the first part and I have a little bit
of difficulty believing he says "we'll smoke a bowl with Kate." Any
insights? This has been driving me batty for 2 years now, ever since I
noticed it and then found out it wasn't on any written lyrics anywhere.
AAAAHHHH!!!

PS- Anyone else think this classification system is a moot point,
considering we're all residents of the Magical Armchair, making every
single last one of us WALTERS?

I think I am one of many who are fed up and leaving the list as much as
we love BF5. I have just had it with the attitudes of the people on this
list, the whole classification bull crap. What makes one person think
they are better fans or wanting to keep newcomers to BF5 out of the
armchair...this is the worst listserv I have ever had the displeasure of
belonging to. I apologize to those of you who don't share such views as
the one expressed below in a current Armchair and I thank those who made
trades with me for various BF5 boots. I thought this list was to share
various info about the band, experiences with the band, etc. The majority
of crap I read on here is people with small egos trying to prove to the
rest of us out here that they are the number one fan.

Good bye fellow fivers and keep enjoying our boys!!

<SNIP> 2. To join the MA there should now be some sort of Initiation
Ritual
to avoid further allowing Brick heads (or whatever they're called) to
join. The UPB could make a long list of questions about Ben, Robert,
Darren and their Music and if An applicant doesn't answer enough
questions correctly then they cannot join the Armchair...<SNIP>
