Subject: Ben's Perth Interview

Well, after lurking for ages I finally have something constructive to
contribut to the Armchair (I think.......). Perth (in Western Australia)
being the mecca of good music that it is.....

I got home from beach training this morning to be greeted by an
interview in the paper that Ben did while he was on holiday over here.
The main thrust of it was the fact that Bff are slowly making themselves
known to a wider audience......

Of course the main topic was the release of brick and the usual "what is
it about?" questions. 'Oh no! Not again' I thought.

However - upon reading I found out some new info I think. The whole time
I have been on the Armchair I can't remember any discussion about who
the characters in the song were. I quote:

"Prodded a little more, Folds admits the song [Brick] is based ...on ...
his own experience. He is one of the song's two central characters."

Did we know this before?????

The interview goes on - Brick was always going to be the 3rd single;
He is going to finish his side project 'Fear of Pop' after the current
tour and then go back in the studio for anouth album.

Anyway - I don't want to take up any more space - suffice to say --
is the above new info?

If anyone wants any more details from the interview - e-mail me
privately and I'll see what I can do....

Better go now
Adam in Oz
(Glad to add to the Brick debate....... I think........)

Hey! I dunno if this is the way to post questions and stuff but I'll try it
anyways. I was just wondering if anyone knows exactly what Brick is about. If
ya know, you can e-mail me at Birdie3884@aol.com. Thanks!

When the March 5 Rolling Stone hits the newstand, grab it. Steal it...and flip
to the back page.
There you'll see, on the Rolling Stone Readers Top 20...this...

3 Ben Folds Five
Whatever and Ever Amen
550 Music/Epic

HOT DAMN! #3 in f'in Rolling Stone. My congrats to the boys, and to us all. We
did it!

When you're done celebrating that, turn to page 56 and check out the headline:
3 Men and a Baby Grand: How Ben Folds Five built their kingdom, Brick by Brick.

WOW!!!

Then turn your head to the right and examine the beautiful, full-paghe portrait
of our favorite "power-ivories trio" and sigh in admiration, respect, and
relief. We're at the top. There is none higher.

Wow. Rolling Stone. Who'd of thought that 3 years ago, eh? Well, I'm sure we'll
argue plenty abut whether this is good or bad, but I for one am proud. Just
plain proud. Ben looks happy in the portrait. I smiled at least that big when I
saw this. I knew the time would come. It's here and I couldn't be happier for
the boys. Anyways...
Great article by David Fricke. Really great. Here's a choice selection...

"The success of [Brick] is actually the well-deserved, arguably ineveitable
culmination of Ben Folds Five's four nonstop years of traditional rock & roll
labor, selling their sound and songs on the road, one gig at a time."

So...I'll leave the rest as a surprise. But get it. I subscribe and just got it
today, it made my month. Thank you Rolling Stone, thank you David Fricke, and
thank you Ben Folds Five.

I'm thinking back now and remembering the first time I saw BF5 live. I wrote to
my buddy Brant about it over e-mail. Remember Brant...
"In the rave scene, we have a saying. 'Last night a DJ saved my life.' Well,
Brant, last night Ben Folds Five saved my life."

Amazing.
