hi, i know i haven't posted before and this is kind of a strange first-post,
but i haven't been all too good with words lately and don't want to disgrace
ben or the list if i can help it. i am stuck in a bit of a horrible
situation. i was away when the hammerstein tickets went on sale, and when i
got back all i could get were mezz tickets. a friend of mine said she could
get me a floor ticket, but she called me this morning, the day before the
show, that her source fell through. i have 2 mezz tickets, all i want is one
floor ticket. i am willing to trade both mezz and also pay any additional
charges to get one floor tick. if anyone can help me, or if you know someone
who can, and save me from having to pay huge fees to scalpers, i would owe you
more things than i could ever put into words. i don't want to have to pay
those guys all the money i have left, but if it comes down to that i will. i
missed them every single time they've been in ny, it seems whenever they come
into the state there is an "emergency" thing my family suddenly has to do
thousands of miles away. ok, i told myself i'd keep this short, but as
mentioned earlier, i am desperate and panicing. please help.

Out of the Toronto, Vancouver-like rainy evening into the dark recesses of the Phoenix - Robbie
Fulks floors ‘em with killer twang-chops, snapping steel strings with teeth-chattering intensity,
crotch a-grabbin' and arms a-flailin' like a true ex-Nashville tunecraftin' cornpunk should. Duelin'
speed-pickin' with licks-sparrin' Tele sidekick ignites the smokeless, sweatless, collegiate
masses. Yee-haw, break out the turducken! Check out his "Country Love Songs" CD - Steve Albini's
on it - Nuff said!

Ben Folds without a hint of sarcasm last time around announced to a smaller Lee's Palace
audience "Thanks for showin' up - we'll see ya in a bigger venue next time..." Even without the Hit,
Ben knew what he was in for, and the fans knew it too. So humble was his stage demeanor, Ben
shared the stage with openers September 67 sporting horn-rims and playing the bass, completely
at ease. Most folks didn't even Notice or get Bothered when Ben slipped to the side o' the stage.

That show, however, was somethin' else! It was at a point in time where the Artist and Audience
were equally open-minded, without the weight of expectation, equally curious where the musical
free-ride would take ‘em and excited by the emotional and musical possibilities around every
corner. From piano stool key-crunching to Sledge's "Oh Sherry!" it was a New Adventure folks!

The folks goin'a last night show kinda knew a few more thangs that the previous crowd didn't. They
had heard the Hit. They had read stuff from the Web. They had amassed a pocket of space for
themselves in the show-crowd. Ben knew a few more thangs too. He has had a Hit. He has heard
a few thangs off de Web. He has amassed a pocket of moolah for himself from the show-crowd.

Once the sound-machine was all tuned-up and all cylinders a-firin', all fears were squashed:
They're still the Best! From grunge-boys to schoolgirls to bizness Elite, we all sang, hunted, dance
and swam. We took pictures here, we took souvenirs... This bodes well for pop music folks:
alternative is dead... Long live the King of Pop: Ben Folds!

So, my friend, who's house i've been in a million times, takes me into this
room that i didn't even know existed. Inside is some cool stuff.. a couple
cells of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, this weird horse-thing, blah blah.
And a piano, and she plays rudimentary piano. Pretty neat. I had no idea.

Oh, but it gets better.

So, i was impressed that there was even a piano IN the house.. so, she whips
out the ol' beginners' books and starts playing some song called "Alouette"
and i swear.. the first chord and the first couple of other notes are the same
as Philosophy! I mean, not in the same tune, but the same chord, same notes in
a row.. just, change the way they're played and it sounded like Philosophy! I
was baffeled. Of course, i'm probably wrong or mistaken or something, but it
seemed neat to me. Ta!

the masses for long. So all of us old fans should just stop complaining
about the new fans. It would be STUPID to stop liking a band just because
they're too popular.]

HEAR HEAR dude.

I feel a little taken back by the true blue BFF fans.
Its like Jesus, sorry I am not from the Bible belt or sorry I graduated
from college when Cobain was still alive, but what the FUCK.
Its not like we are screaming "give me my money back you bitch" all the
time. Some of use really like this band.

I came across this band this time last year thanks to the Counting Crows
and the release of Whatever:
What does that make me?
I know what it has made me SOMEONE WHO COULD CARE LESS about mindless rants
on the net about how great it was when people where Screaming "who the fuck
are you" to the band.

If you want the guys (BFF) to stay small well guess what its too late. Go
find some new "BRICKHEAD" (Your term, not mine) chick to hang out with and
go put your arms around the next HOOTIE AND THE BLOWFISH from Raleigh. Make
them yours, make them big. Cause God Knows you guys make everyone stars.

I for one am happy that BFF is getting recognition. Remember this band has
yet to crack the Billboring top 40 single and Album chart so they are not
going to be the next Usher or Third Eye 20. They are going to still be
ours: a little shy, a little coy and a great little three piece that kicks
ass.

Also remember, I don't think the casual top 40, AOR listener really signs
on to mailing list because they were moved by one song about two teenagers
in turmoil. The "Brick" time will pass. What is interesting is who will
still be around two months from now. And if this band has done its job
right, which it looks like up to this point they have, then I think we are
going to have some new neighbors for a fairly long time. So PLEASE show
some of that Southern hospitality and PLAY nice.

LONG LIVE the BABY GRAND,
Signed One semi-angry fan
Brendan

Alright, I recently had the pleasure to travel (and I do mean travel LOTS) to
3 Ben Folds Five concerts, St. Louis, Chicago and Detroit. Anyway, may I just
say that all three were definatley nice concerts. Here's my short review of
each of them.

St. Louis - Was kind of weird. I think that Ben was kind of distracted by the
fact that people were so high up. Ben also kept on cutting off Robert. It was
a Radio Sponsored show, and to me they all seemed uptight. The security
SUCKED, it really did, they were all jerks. And to that person who was talking
about how they saw Ben after the show when you were just hanging out. That
must've been kind of tough, considering Darren went right to the tour bus
immeaditley after the show, and security had everyone out of the building by
15 minutes after the show. No Underground, No Jullianne. I talked to Ben and
Robert after the show and they both said how Micheal knew his stuff and how he
seemed to click. I thought that was truly cool of them. Bess was a blast to
hang out with after the show, just wish we could've dragged her to the chicago
one.

Chicago - Was lots of fun! We didn't get there till' like 7:30 (hanging out in
Sandi's hotel room tilll like 7:00), but somehow Sandi (the infamous lady with
the plastic pants) Shorter got up front. It was amazing. Unfortunatley this
jerk who I know is on the armchair, kept on insulting me because I'm 15, and
it was a little much for me to take, so I left. I enjoyed *listening* to the
show, and they did Hava Nagila, which was surprising! I talked to Doug, and we
had given them cookies the night before, and Doug started going on this spiel
about how wonderful they were, and how much he loves peanut butter cookies and
milk, interesting. Got my piece of the piano, and got to talk to Darren for
quite a bit.

Detroit - Was hell. It was quite possibly the most miserable experience of my
life. Robbie Fulks was cool though because before one of the songs he went
"And there's these 3 girls, who are right here that have been to all the shows
since St. Louis" and that was me and my mom and Calvin (sp?) plus Sandi, who
he didn't mention, oh well. It was pretty neat. Robbie played a different set
list than he had before, because we asked him to. Neat. Before Ben Folds Five
came out, it was nice. Leo gave me a water from the back, and it made me felt
truly important. (Thanks Leo! :) )
As soon as Ben Folds Five came out people started pushing, but Darren did wave
at me, which aleviated the pain I was in for seconds. I couldn't breath. I
felt like such an ass because I had to be lifted over the barricade. And it
wasn't like the band could start playing, they just stood there, gawking. I
felt like a retard. But Leo let us stand over on the side of the stage, which
gave me a perfect view of Ben playing the piano, nice perspective. Gave Darren
a hat, and he said that it brought out something that's been hiding inside of
him, I was like, it's just a hat.

Oh well, tons of fun for all, sorry for the gloating, the rambling, and the
overall suckiness of this post, please don't flame me!

Thank you,
Katie

Hey Armchairers,

Anyone planning on meeting Darren after a show, I've got a huge favor to
ask you guys. After a year and a half of Armchair dedication, I know there's
gotta be someone out there who'll do this for me. I need to know Darren's
cymbal setup. Not just what company, but what cymbals he uses and their exact
sizes/names. It would be really appreciated. This would be particularly easy
for a drummer, since these things are second nature, but anyway...let me know
if you can help!

Later kids and cheers,
~Jordan

Pissed off that they cut Atlanta out of their tour...

Ello ello,

Just wanted to see if any of you wankers has read the Ben Folds Five
article in the latest Rolling Stone? Quite a nice piece actuallly, very
favorable towards our boys. Great photograph of the band also! Write me and
tell me what you think. I'd write a letter to the editor of the magazine, but
they've never been published before. At least here, I know my voice will be
heard. So long, farewell, auf wiedersehn adieu.
