I want to cause an upset on the triple J Net 50 (radio program in Aust
where you go to a web page and vote for any songs you love or hate and then
it is counted down on Sat nights) Voting is open to everyone and anyone,
now all I ask of my fellow Armchairers is the go to this address:

http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/net50/vote.htm

and fill in all the various details and vote for Brick and see if we can
knock Blink 182 off the no 1 spot (it seems to have been there fior a
while) You can only vote for the same song once but can vote for any
other songs you like/or hate. If everyone on the chair votes for brick (it
will only take 5 mins, if that) and tells as many friends as they can to
do it, I reckon BF5 can take out No 1. So get VOTING

Thankyou for your time and I look forward to hearing the countdown on Sat
night.

Ok...I'm kinda getting tired of this "brickhead" stuff...I never claimed
to be the biggest BFF fan in the world after I heard "Brick"... I still
don't claim to be their biggest fan. All I know, is that I like the
song, and that is what sent me to the music store to search for their
album...and now I like a lot of the songs on their cd. Now, if it
weren't for "Brick" being played on the radio, no one in the general
public would buy their albums, and they would prolly not know who BFF
were...I just would like you to remember that if it weren't for
"Brick's" popularity, BFF wouldn't be on the charts....
And that's just my 2 cents...

Just wanted to make a quick post about the Philadelphia show. This was our
8th BFF show and was quite possibly the best sounding show we've seen.
Others have posted the set list, but my highlights were Pyser, Smoke, Eddie
Walker and Jelly. My wife got to hear her new favorite song, Emaline, which
also sounded great. We were a bit depressed, however, because they are
outgrowing these smaller venues and are becoming harder and harder to see "up
close." We are certainly thrilled that they are getting the recognition that
they deserve, but we will miss the days when they were our (and many of your)
best kept secret. I think our favorite show was February 1995 at the Khyber
Pass in Phila., where Ben stood at the door and shook all of our hands as we
left the show.
Which brings me to the Sonic Session recorded Saturday afternoon. Despite
having to wait in a hallway for quite a while before being allowed into the
studio, we loved this intimate mini-show (6 songs). An experience we won't
soon forget.

OK...i just got back from the DC show and i am amazed yet again.
I did tape the show (i almost got kicked out twice!) so if you want to trade
or something just email me.
I will have a real set list but for now...these are the songs I can remember
in no particular order:
Battle of who could care less
philosophy
Fair
Brick
Song for the dumped
The last polka
Eddie Walker
Kate
one angry dwarf
Emaline
Tom and Mary
underground
Steven
missing the war
smoke
uncle walter

The show ruled. During Underground, Robert did his little disco number.
Fortunatly, there was NO moshing so I only had to put up with a bunch of
poeple who insisted on jumping up and down on my feet. The other thing that
irked me was that everyone was singing so damn loud. I have nothing against
people singing but this went a little too far. During the first few songs I
could hardly hear Ben. This never happened before........

And another thing......I love Brick. It wasn't the first BF5 song i ever
heard and it is not my favorite but i still love it. I love it with all those
other people who love it too. I think it is great that so many people are
starting to appreciate BF5. I don't care how many times it is played on the
radio, that doesn't make me like or dislike it any more. As for all those
people who only know that one song and "claim" to like BF5, leave them alone.
Who really cares? So what? Not everyone hears a song, decides its good, and
then goes out and gets the album. Leave these poor people alone....who cares
what they like. I don't see how hearing a song on the radio could actually
affect the quality of it....geez.

>Disclaimer:

Imagine wining tickets to a band that you have only heard of and never
really listened too. That’s what happened to me. February 11th at Deep
Ellum Live Ben Folds Five played. Needless to say they are “tha bomb”.

Even though I didn’t know the words to most of the songs played ( such
as Brick, One Angry Dwarf and a 100 Solemn Faces ) the spirit of the
crowd, who were singing every word along with the band, drew me in. The
opening band wasn’t too hot but, you can’t have everything. Well, they
did have one good song, “North Carolina is a cigarette state.” Don’t ask
me who they were because I don’t know. They never said.

Aside from one drunk lady who tried to create a stage rush and one
misinformed soul about the crowd surfing polices of Deep Ellum Live the
concert was one of the best I have been too. That is not even counting
the supercool freestyle singing that Ben did when Darren broke a drum
head. It went something like "Yea he broke his < explitive ending with
ing and starting with f > drum" and that's all I can remember right now.
That single piece of musical mastery made the whole concert worth it.

To anybody that has not been to see Ben Folds Five live, WHAT ARE
WAITING FOR?? It is definitely worth the price of the ticket.

Later.

Damn you better be serious. If you are though, I would send a message to
Frank Maynard our dear list administator and see what he can do. I would
bet he could get someone to hook your friend up.

Again, if you're kidding, hopefully Frank will just take you off the
list.

I just wanted to drop a LATE "thanks and you're totally cool" to Doug, the
ubiquitous tour manager who shared cookies with everyone waiting for the Live
X in Atlanta on October 16 (told ya'll it was late!) and also I'm sorry for
not getting to talk to you at the show...I saw you at the t-shirt stand but
didn't want to lose my front row spot...then looked for you after the show but
you were nowhere to be found! I don't even know if you remember me, but I'm
Sara, who sang.

Toodles!
Sara

P.S. I picked up the Australian "Brick" import earlier today, and it's great!
I've been wanting Mitchell Lane FOREVER, and the Kate remix with strings is a
trip...it also has the KCRW live performance of "Smoke".

I just had to comment on all the negative comments about the NY show. I don't
understand them at all. Maybe it was because I was right up front but I
thought the sound was great and the show amazing....especailly the finale.
The crowd was mostly into it around me and I heard tons of people singing the
words to all the songs...so much so that I wished they'd quiet down a bit at
times. And what with all this youngster stuff...I am 24 and the people right
behind me were in there thirties. Even if I am in a minortiy who cares,,,I
wish I had been able to see bands like BFF when I was 15...let the kids have
their fun!

This is kind of a random post, but I was curious as to what South Park
character Ben and the boys fancied. I'm not sure if they will even see
this, but I was just curious. I think that Ben would probably tend to
like Kenny, Robert would probably prefer Cartman and Darren, I think, The
Chef. I wonder....

Subject: Big Rock Ending

Alot of people have been commenting on the "BIG ROCK ENDING" thing that
the guys have been doing at some shows. I saw them do it at Dallas on
2/11, and I was commenting to my freind that all Ben had to do was rip
off his shirt(A Rage Against the Machine T-shirt, HA!) and he would be
doing a pretty good Robert Plant impression. Well wouldn't you know
it!!!! Not too long before the show I had seen a rerun of Conan O'Brien
in which they did a Led Zepplin impression based on the Song Remains the
Same (hilarious). Conan did the greatest Robert Plant impression.

BTW, if Doug the tour manager does read this list, I have been trying to
get a hold of you for a while to make a modest proposal:
Please come to Oklahoma...please? Mind Candy Productions would produce
you guys here and the guy's name is Darryl. He's the tour manager for
Pavement and John Tesh(no joke). Unfortunately I don't know how to get
in touch with him. There is a web page for Mind Candy but it only lists
upcoming shows. Pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaase......aaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!
Things are so spread out here in the South that I've had to drive 200,
500, 650 miles to see shows. I am but a poor college student and this
is financially pressing. I leave it in your competent hands and I am
confident that you won't let me down.

I agree with all the following posts. Where did all these deadbeat, rude
kids come from. all because of brick? Philly was my third BFF show and
the worst. I left halfway thru cause I was tired of people pushing and
shoving, leaning on my back, smoking like a chain smoker (I gave up about
a month ago so that killed me), etc. Then if you said something to one of
them all the kids would gang up and argue back. Then I had this teen
couple in front of me who should have been at home in their bedroom.
Please Ben, come back to Philly and do a club where only 21 and over can
get in.

or at least if they're under 21 make sure they are mature.

I taped the Hammerstein show on DAT from the Mezz2, 3rd row
Center.
It came out much better than expected, given the general muddiness
of the sound at the venue. I used unidirectional mikes, and pointed
them right at the large PA, which was eye-level to the Mezz2.

I'm offering to fill blanks on this one, rather than do a tree like
I did for the Supper Club tape.

Anyway, I'll swap this for video copies of the MTV Live show,
other BFF DATs, and I'll fill blanks for the first *2* DAT people who
email me, and the first *4* cassette people who email me.

*Do Not* offer money or other compensation. I don't sell tapes,
since its both illegal, and rips off the band.

I was one of the few people that got to go to Ben Folds Five's Sonic
Sessions!!! A sonic session is (since most of you probably dont know) a
private concert where you and about 40 other people sit on the floor in a
small room, 3 feet away from your favorite band and watch them perform just
for you! Afterwards you get to meet them and sometimes you get to have pizza
with them-but neither of this happened for anyone except about 15 people and
myself, because they were in a big rush. If you want to hear about it, just
ask me by sending an e-mail to GLYCRNGRL@aol.com!
