Okay EVERYONE. On our esteemed moderator's behalf, I would like to
quickly remind some people of some things about this list:

SOMEONE WROTE:

>Dave, I hope you're reading this. You're really frieken getting on my
last
>nerve! I wish there was someway we could kick him out!!!!

SOMEONE WROTE

>mean, so just fuck off!!

QUOTE FROM LIST SIGN-UP INSTRUCTIONS

I WRITE : an important note : swearing makes you sound uneducated anyway

hey folks... dave here.

Look-- the song was a joke. Sorry if you didn't like it. The response was
triggered by days and days of being mail-bombed. So sorry if you didn't care
for the complicated sentence structure.

Could we please return to the carefully-moderated cease-fire that we used to
have on the list? I tire of this all out attack on me and my kind. I've
apologized for making waves and screwing up the list, so let's give Frank back
his baby, no?

If you want to keep up the argument privatley, fine. I just want to get back
to the fascinating "the boys are playing brick on rosie tomarrow" topics we
used to have. God forbid we ever have an argument.

all right. That's it. So sorry to have bothered you all.

Naked and Famous,
dave

I am sure that I am not the only one that saw this, but I feel I need to
inform you in case no one else does, tonight I turned on the TV and heard
"vaporated" on the TV, I wondered if BFF had already released another single,
then the picture came in and I saw it was Dawsons Creek, now this is nothing
bad in general and I have nothing against the show. The bad thing is that at
the end of the show they say what bands had music in the show, Ben Folds Five
was not given credit. They could give credit to some lady that I have never
heard of, but no credit to BFF, I just wanted to publicly express my outrage
to Warner Brothers for not giving them credit because they are not a WB label.

Subject: Response to a couple of questions

In case anyone else was wondering, here's what I had to answer to Sarah's
questions:

<<1. Anybody heard anything about an new album. WEAE came out a year ago
so I thought they might be working on some new stuff now.>>

I talked to Ben more than a few times over the course of the last tour. I
went to the shows in NY, PA, DC, and VA and Ben came and hung out in our
hotel room in Virginia Beach. I asked about how songs for the new album
were coming along, and he said they had some stuff worked out, but nothing
strong enough to play live just yet. (This was at the end of February.)
>From now until May they will be working on rehearsing material for the next
album. I don't know anything about a possible release date yet.

<<2. Are they going to release a new single or video from WEAE? If so, any
ideas as to what it will be?>>

I'm not sure about this one. Word is that Song For the Dumped was being
discussed as a single, but I really couldn't see that happening. It just
doesn't seem "radio-friendly" enough. C'mon..."Give me my money back, you
<silence>!"???

<<3. I saw them at Music Midtown in Atlanta last summer and I was wondering
if they are going to go back. Anybody know summer tour plans or if there
are any?>>

Word from inside says that May will be the start of a six-week tour, about
twice as long as the February tour. I'm not sure of locations, but I'm
willing to bet they'll hit the South, since they skipped it last time
around.

That's all I can say for now. And lets try to cut down the 300 responses to
the same story/question/anecdote. Streamline...that's the key.

Who knew exactly how far publicity for BFF had gone?!

Today I walked into Franklin Quest, a rather frighteningly conservative
store responsible for such necessary financial district items as intricate
personal planners with integrated motivational quotes. I had gone in to
retrieve some filler paper for my Mom who lives in a nearby suburb without
such big city amenities. I picked up the "Daily Record of Events" packet
and saw the following sample text written on its pages:

	2. - Ben Holds Five
	    -Tickets $6.50
-Also get tickets for Kristen and Dave

Wow. I'm not sure if these people just got the name of the band wrong
cause they're crazy corporate kooks, or if they can't actually use the real
band name because the thought of being on a Motivational Planner is just
too absurd for the boys to agree to.

At any rate.

Wow.

i don't get this ranting over the godzilla song.
back up a second: it was _funny_.
i thought it was actually real for a minute there;
i can totally see them playing a song like that.
just listen to the words for "bad idea":
all the lyrics make fun of the fact that
they're doing this song for a soundtrack.
that's what the godzilla song did.
i think these guys have enough of a sense of humor about themselves to be
able to do a song like that comfortably.
it's not the band that's uptight.
it's the fans.
get a grip, folks.

>>>And if you can't take a joke, fuck off.

_exactly_.

what, are the _beatles_ just too obvious to mention or something? and a

can't forget billy idol. hehe...

there's one for you- how about some bff billy idol covers?
hehe... let's hear "rebel yell" on a piano...
...that would crack me up...

ok i'm done.

Subject: Evaporated on WB Network!

Well, somebody over there has taste. While being subjected to an episode
of the sometimes cheesy and sometimes half-decent "Dawson's Creek" at a
friend's house, one of the girl leads breaks up with the show's male
namesake, and as she breaks the news, an incredibly familiar open F chord
starts droning in the background...suddenly, I totally stop listening to
the dialogue, and yes indeed, it's Evaporated by BFF. They played the
entire first verse of the song as the two argued, and then the guy got
frustrated and walked away, and the music took over, with Dawson walking
away to "here I am, sad and free...." and on the high A that Ben sings at
the end of the chorus, they went to the credits, and then cut to
commercial.
I immediately started expounding to the room over whether or not I
thought it was a good song to be playing about 15-year-old romance, which,
with all due respect to the younger fans here (I am a ripe old 23),
probably is about an interpersonal loss greater than your first
semi-girlfriend needing some space. One of my friends then pointed out,
"Hey, it's exposure for your favorite band, and they played enough of the
song to have people listen, and the situation may have forced some people
to listen closely to the lyrics."
I then thought, it IS a BFF song getting major airplay (in a
sense) that isn't "Brick," even if it is more similar to Brick than OAD or
Philosophy, etc. So I guess, in conclusion, I am happy it made it on the
air. I still feel lucky to have heard Evaporated at Ziggy's that one
time, even if they'll begin playing it on tour soon. Dare I think that
this may make it a single possibility?
Oh well, I've rambled long enough.

It's all smiles and business these days,

Subject: The Truth about Cats and Selling Out.

Hi ¯Just wanted to point out that Ben Folds Five is not a stranger to releasing songs for soundtracks. As I recall (I have the soundtrack) ¯pre-WEaEA¯ they released "Retarded" or as it was renamed "Bad Idea" for the Truth About Cats and Dogs soundtrack.

Now I am not sure how long ago it was but I do remember those of us on the list (Not yet named MA) were kind of psyched to go and see the movie. They didn't actually use the song in the movie but it was still on the CD. We were not talking about how BFF was selling out or how they were not selling out. I would tend to think that The Truth About C/D, not Godzilla, would be more consistent with a "Sellout" film/soundtrack.

I was very surprised that no one else brought up this point.

Looking Forward to Whatever,
¯Joe

Eddie Walker, the musical. I love that idea. But why do I get the feeling that people who know Eddie Walker are laughing at this?

Could someone point me to more information about Ben's connection with that Buddy Holly show? I can't seem to get past "before he formed the band he was doing this off off Broadway show about Buddy Holly"

Am I the only person in America who thinks Rent sucks?
