No, thats not the same chuck folds. Rather strange name for there to be
more than one. The first time I saw his name was several years ago in the
village voice and tried to get out to see him whenever we were in nyc but
never could. He is a jazz pianist and I have his cd. Its real straight
ahead jazz and he is very good if you enjoy that style.
And actually I still play with bus stop and we are still together
(contrary to rumors I hear a lot) but we just dont mess with touring
clubs anymore. We only play private shows and occasionally at a club here
in greensboro. The private stuff keeps us busy but not like the clubs so
it frees up some spare time for some 'side projects'. One that I am a
part of is called 'snuzz'.
If anyone is interested in checking out bus stop cds or the snuzz cd just
email me.
And to make this not totally unrelated to bf5, ben does play on a few
tracks on our cds.
Oh yeah, for those of you in Japan, bus stop released a cd there a few
months ago, go check it out if you can.
thanks
take care

Subject: Selling Out/Godzilla/Brick Meanings

Hey.
I just have a few things to say. They have to do with a subject that has been
very much talked about on the Armchair lately (see Subject). I think that
selling out is making music for the money. That's my personal definition of
it. And I DON'T think that Ben Folds Five is doing so. I mean, yeah, Godzilla
WILL be a big movie and it probably cost a lot of money to make, but I don't
think this is the reason BF5 agreed to do the soundtrack. And even if Brick IS
really big right now, it doesn't mean that the boys are going to stop making
beautiful music and just concentrate on making money. I mean, we've all been
long-enough fans to know BF5's attitude towards things. And calling kids the
''dumbest man on earth'' because they didn't know the meaning of Brick is just
wrong. They're innocent fans who were just introduced to the band, and they
would like to know about the band, so they joined an online mailing list. It's
the same thing with the phone in SLNIT - I'm sure some of us, if not all of
us, were the same way when we first listened to BF5. Simply curious and
intrigued.
I think we should all stop worrying about BF5's popularity and Brick meanings
and selling out and teenybopper fans and focus on the fact that there is this
band that's creating fantastic music, and we all think they're wonderful, so
we're on this list. Thanks for listening.

Subject: great caesar's ghost

<< To whoever wrote the little quote from Everclear, it's rather ironic that
you wrote it on a bff list, because I hear the bands HATE each other.>>
that's odd, a few months ago when Everclear were on 120 Minutes and M.
Pinfield introed "brick" Art seemed enthusiastic. maybe he was being
sarcastic, i don't know. what are the origins of this rumor? about a year ago
i heard that Ben and Doughty from Soul Coughing hated each other, but i later
found out that they didn't even meet until both bands played the Horde tour
and there was actually some mutual admiration.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i got a question that's been bugging me for years but i never thought to ask
here:in "Jackson Cannery", what the hell does Ben say in the part after "hope
i don't join you soon" and before "great caesar's ghost knows what's best for
me." since there's no lyric sheet for the album there are quite a few arguable
lines(i.e."smoke a bowl with caleb"). just wondering if anyone knows.
p.s.someone included in the Ben Harper in the Bs:he's great, i can't wait to
see him at Horde this summer.
In a message dated 98-03-10 21:33:27 EST, someone writes:
<<   Bass:   F F A# A C
           F F A# A C, D F (repeat 7 times)
                           (note: bass guitar comes in the 3rd time
                                  you play this) >>
Hmm.. well, i can't speak for the piano, but i can tell you that the bass is
wrong there. My band covers Kate and i know the bassline perfectly lined up to
the album.. that ain't it. It's CLOSE, but not it.. anyway, if anyone wants it
tabbed out just write me..
If doing a song for a soundtrack means that they are sellouts, that must mean
that they've already sold out -- twice. Anyone remember Truth About Cats and
Dogs or Mr. Wrong? Speaking of which, does anybody besides me like the Mr.
Wrong version of SFTD better?
I think the following covers would be good for our boys:
Pianoman--Billy Joel
Superman's song--Crash Test Dummies
Iron Man--Ozzy Ozborne (wouldn't that sound cool?  wouldn't it? no? oh.)
Who wants to live forever?
         and
Killer Queen--Both by Queen
A BFF/Squirrel Nut Zippers tour would simply kick ass.
and that's my first amendment,
Subject: Stupid ass teen agnst!
The ONLY good thing about Dawsons Creek is that 1. Joshua Jackson is
funny as Pasty.  2. Its on after Buffy
But to realize that my little band, Ben Folds Five, and their terribly
cute and touching songs about agnst, are being played on this stupid ass
boring teen drama as breakup music! Its sacrilege! Kevin Williamson, kiss
my ass after you stop hitting on the new teen zeitgist!!!!!
Im mad.
Ben Folds Five on the same show with Paula Cole for a theme song and
overused Third Eye Blind.
See...I think they were trying to show Dawson's inner pain...and he was
stealing Ben's!
~Elisabeth
BTW, it was Evaporated.
Im going to watch Bottle Rocket and try to feel happy.
They shouldve played Song For The Dumped
