Someone asked if the Bacharach tribute would be open to the public. I saw on
the mtv website that tickets will go on on sale Monday, March 16. The event
will be held at the Manhattan Center.

Hope all the New York Ben Folds Five fans will fill up the room :)

QUESTION: does anybody know where in the DC area I can find BFF
singles / imports? I've managed to find the albums, but I can't find
anything else.. (including Loungapalooza) Where do / did all fo you get
your stuff? I've thouroughly given up on finding them up here in the NYC
area, but I figure when I'm in DC, there's a better chance of finding
stuff down there.. HELP!!!!

Hey all. I, too, think that this Brick thing as a single kind of sucks, in
that they ahve much better songs not being recognized. But I also realize that
music groups rarely have control over what singles are going to be released
(only music giants like REM Rolling Stones). So the fact that Brick was
released had nothing to do with the band, other than the fact that they sing
it. However, after this Brick thing dies down, the group will have to find
another single. I know that it is still a little early because Brick is doing
so well on the charts, but eventually a new single will be released. And I
know just the song: Song for the Dumped. One can only hope that the industry
and record company will have enough balls to release and play the song. Edit
out the "fuck you too" and its ready to go. For those who think that the
"bitch" part will be a problem, all i have to say is:
Meredith Brooks: "Bitch"
Elton John: "The Bitch is Back"
Prodigy: "Smack my Bitch Up"

All were succesful singles. So lets start pushing Song for the Dumped. And who
knows, maybe it will become an anthem for people who were dumped.

Also, I just wanted to add that I was at the rehearsal of Ben Folds Five
appearance on SNL. For those of you who aren't farmiliar with the Saturday
Night Live set-up, this is how it works. On Saturday Night, at about 7 pm, NBC
brings in an entire audience to watch the show. At these rehearsals, SNL will
show about 5 extra skits and throw in a couple extra dirty jokes to see what
the audience like and what they can slip past the censors. Well, anyway, my
point is at that rehearsal Ben Folds Five played Brick (which aired live as
you all know later that night), but what you DIDNT see was that they also
played a kick-ass version of One Angry Dwarf and Two Hundred Solemn Faces. It
was the extended live version, also, not the way it ends on the album.

ok, this is long enough. anyone agree with me on Song For the Dumped? It
really captures the essence of the group...MUCH more than Brick. And anyone
whos been dumped can relate.

Aaron

PS- I also went to the hammerstein show on Feb 20...anyone know why it wasnt a
live at the 10 spot on mtv..it was scheduled to be, but was canceled. And no,
I don't have bootleg copies, so dont ask.

I'm not sure about this one. Word is that Song For the Dumped was being
discussed as a single, but I really couldn't see that happening. It just
doesn't seem "radio-friendly" enough. C'mon..."Give me my money back, you
 <silence>!"???
>>****************************************************************************

Um, I think that Meredith Brooks proved the above statement wrong. As a radio
geek, I feel the need to point out that Song For the Dumped could very well be
a single played on the radio, if they wanted it to be. And the *fuck* line
could even be played during safe harbor hours (overnight). But I think
there's a lot stronger material on WEAE that I would like to see released
first. :) But that's just me.
Btw, I'm new to AOL and this list and I hope I am doing this right! Is anyone
from the LA area and if so, did you catch the kickin' show at Dalt's Grill in
Burbank (Fri 2/27) when KROQ did "Breakfast with Ben Folds Five"? I sat 10
feet from Ben's piano and got some nice pictures of DARREN. It was orgasmic.

In answer to Laertes78's question about the meaning of "Brick."

The song "Brick" is about a young man (late teens) who is dealing with the
pregnancy of his girlfriend, and the abortion she has. This is supposed to be
a true story of when Ben Folds, the lead singer had a girlfriend who also had
an abortion when he was a senior in high school. I read this in and article
on BFF in the CMJ new music magazine......

Well, then you should be happy for them and for whoever got to hear it. It's
still the same music. Stop crying becuase they aren't "your little band" any

Okay, I admit that post I made was immature, even though that "Dave-O" guy
was making me mad. But will people stop using my post in their posts!
It's over people. Don't drag it on.

Another thing, I am 13, I will admit that, but I do not just like "Brick".
That was the song that introduced me to them. Then I bought all of their
cds. Don't think I am one of those kids that only love the over-played
"Brick".

One more thing, I don't just like Ben Folds Five for their great music, but
I like it also because of the deep meaning some of their songs have. They
are a great band, and I want to give them props for that.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Gees, how many people have written posts on the
band being a sell out? Is the band aloud to be on a soundtrack without
people jumping on their backs? I guess not. And what is with everyone
being so mad finally when this band is getting pretty popular???! You
should be happy that the band is doing so well, when just years ago Ben
totally gave up.

if they do promote SFTD as a single(and i hope they do), i doubt most radio
stations will blank out anything other than the "f--- you too" part. remember
how popular and uncensored Merideth Brooks' song was? the word "bitch" is no
longer a media taboo.
